1. I picked up a gig bag the other day and took off to rehearsal. Opened it up and had my backup bass (cheapo P bass copy) instead of my very well loved Schecter. It sounded good in the mix and I was surprised at how the neck felt (I usually struggly with thicker necks). Just missed the top few frets on one song. Might have to rethink my (long delayed) plan of changing the neck and just do some little upgrades. Perhaps a new pickup, maybe a bridge. hmmm Anyone else ever mixed up your instruments? Good/bad experience? Edit for typos.
  2.
Depends entirely on how entertaining you are. At least half of the Dick Venom gigs are weekend ones.
As I say-
Disclaimer - it may be that I've only ever been in rubbish/brutally uncommercial bands that therefore never play at weekends.
3.
And there are gigs on other days of the week believe it or not, for a project band. And open mic nights.
+1 From my experience a new originals band would struggle to get booked at a weekend anyway. Disclaimer - it may be that I've only ever been in rubbish/brutally uncommercial bands that therefore never play at weekends.
  4. Awesome.

Should be able to pick one up secondhand too for about £100.
another recommendation for the Ashdown EB series. I sold an older model (no compressor) on here before christmas for £100. Used it for ages for gigs and rehearsals
  6.
Just placed an order at guitarguitar.co.uk for the 212 stack. Will report back on my findings!!!
Hope it works out for you. These look to be great deals.
  7.
Noone died.
That is one of the most important things for any gig.
  8. Haven't ever tried. I'd love to give it a go though. Edit - although I expect I would be terrible
  9. Maybe Post-punk?
  10.
Something that happened for the first time - I was "gearstalked"
oo fun, what happened?
  11. bit of a flat afternoon gig at a village pub at a day of live outdoor music with the covers band. Dep drummer (causing band politics issues) which was a bit odd for me, had a bit of trouble locking in. Small audience. Nice comments afterwards but was lacking a bit of polish for my liking.
  12.
Eyup! I'm Dan from Leeds and I too like to make noise and pretend I'm a guitarist! I provide my rumbles to a post-something-or-other(we haven't quite decided yet) band with the assistance of a couple of Spectors, a Legend Classic 5 in amberburst with gold hardware and a Q6 Pro in holoflash which I mainly use for the band. I also have a Cort funk machine that I rarely use for anything but doodles. I put these babies through an Orange Terror Bass when I'm out and about, and my Ashdown Evo II electric blue when I'm at home. I'm hoping you fine folk will help me progress my knowledge of hardware and how to use it, as well as tips on technique, theory and generally useful information. Most of all, I'm here for some friendly banter. I do hope I've turned up at the right place
Yep you're in the right place. I also use a Bass Terror when out and about and had an old EB12-180 until about 6 months ago. Welcome aboard PS man I miss living in Leeds
  13.
I prefer 24 - i like the thought of my fretboard being 2 octave and symmetrical at the 12th.
+1 to this Also, my band play a song with the bass line played totally on the g string (alongside a droning d string on a 4 string bass) and it goes all the way up to the 23rd fret. Started playing the song on a 21 fret bass the other day without thinking and had to do some very hasty improvisation.
  14.
I`ve played a Terror through the SP210, and have heard BurritoBass playing through that combination. They work very well. For me, the sound was perfectly loud enough - shockingly so in fact - but just not enough depth. The TC cabs I`ve no experience of, but when I was looking at getting a new cab I had a fairly long chat with The Bass Merchant, who advised that TC cabs are very clear, modern, "hi-fi" sounding cabs - which put me off, btw. Tho as there`s a tweeter control, I`m sure this can be adjusted to roll off some of the "hi-fi" sound. Plus, being bigger, I would suspect that it may have a bit more depth to the sound.
+1 on the SP210 thoughts. Plenty loud but it is a small cabinet so not a huge low end. My thoughts on how I use it and why are all over the other threads about the OTB.
  15. Possibly change the way the cabinets vibrate? Whether that's a good or bad thing I have no idea. Wiser minds will follow I'm sure.
  16.
Spill some blood on it and you'll be fine.
This. Honestly, image does matter for a gigging band but a white P-bass is very inoffensive and I really don't think it would a problem
  17. I'm sad to say I missed it. I like them with both players. Yes they do seem to be a different band than they used to be but can we place that solely at the door of the bass player?
  18.
If you give alex an email at barefaced then I'm sure he'll be happy to help.
+1
  19.
yea I'd read that thread before and a fair few of the others I'm pretty much spent the last week or more geeking out on here and talk bass I guess I'm more interested in how the the terror bass head will sound through the compact particularly in comparison to the SP210 (which is a sound I'm pretty hot on) and also any benefits the compact may have over the SP210 and vice versa
Just to repeat myself from the other thread (already linked to) and following on from the thoughts of Prime_BASS on monitoring My experience - I regularly use an OTB500 and SP210 cabinet for gigs and rehearsals. I've never played a gig with a drummer but without PA support which may be untypical but that is my situation. I use my amp to create the sound that is then put through the PA (either by DI or miccing the cabinet) I have it on an amp stand and it is a wonderful monitor, we rarely have any bass through the monitors as it fills the stages that we play. The DI is hot but I have and will continue to use it with little trouble. From what I've read about the Barefaced cabinets, they sound fantastic and I'd love to try one one day. Alex's writing (on here and in other places) is excellent and his cabinets are by all reports wonderful pieces of engineering. Plenty of people love the OTB and Barefaced combination and I'm sure it sounds great too. Is there anyway in which you could try out a Barefaced cabinet? I think that's the only way you can make an informed decision. Edited for foolish typing errors.
  20. I think (might be wrong) WaynePunkDude is/was looking for a Terror Bass. Might be worth PMing him?
  21. Back OT I feel like the more gigs I play and the more relaxed I am, movement comes more naturally and doesn't feel so "put on". (got a comment about my "stage presence" after our gig in Wednesday which was very flattering)
  22. Played the Shed last night with my originals band. Reasonable turn out and good comments from both the promoter and the owner. Recording in a couple of weeks- eeekk

    Behringer

How about one of these? I used to have a 12" version and it was really good. I've never heard anything good about Behringer amps. Although that doesn't mean that they aren't fine.
  24.
Ultimately, relax and enjoy. Other people aren't going to if you're not, and there's no point if you're not!
+1 if your music is a hobby, imho it must be fun.
  25.
Used to have an Ibanez Phat Hed great attack pedal.
Yep, me too. Did the job a treat.
