1.
I wouldnt say headlining - more playing last. I'd do it. You'll be needing live experience if you've only gigged once. Get those niggles out. Also - if its a friday night, you may get a crowd who will just appear for a drink then stay! Headlining to me is when you have a crowd who will come see you/you can attract a crowd. IMO playing last does not mean headlining.
Woody speaks sense, you need the practice as a band and playing last isn't the same as headlining. I say do your best to hold the crowd that turn up for other bands and rock the place.
2. I have my whole rig in the corner of our flat. Usually just the Sp210 cabinet plugged in. A bass is always out on a stand too.
3.
Yup, I do it all for our band ...it's a complete pain in the arse. Most promoters (or should i say wannabe promoters) are a complete waste of space. Fine, if you don't like our music or don't think we fit in with the night/venue/clientele just bloody say so, don't completely ignore my emails/facebook messages you ignorant gits!
This. A little courtesy goes a long way in my book. Its a two way street though, I always have to remind myself that there are dozens of other bands pushing for the same slots. I did all the booking for my last band, wasn't too bad dealing with the Bookers (I'll only think of them as a promoters if they help with the promotion of the gig) but getting commitment to dates in advance from the other members was what killed the band for me.
4. Sorry to hear that. Best of luck getting it back.
5.
on stage
How many basses do you have on stage? I thought I was extravagant having a spare in a gig bag propped up behind my amp! Are you Adam Clayton?
6. Will you be wanting a fairly driven sound? I'd consider that when thinking about amps. Although having said that there are plenty of pedals/effects units which can create that sound for you. Sansamp seems to be the industry standard.
7. They are tools. I think Les Claypool once said (roughly) that a bass is the instrument I use to get the sounds I hear in my head. Damage is a part of their existence. That's not to say that I wouldn't be gutted if a neck got cracked.
8. I'm pretty lucky compared to some here. I work office hours mon-fri. If the gig is far away and I had a few weeks notice I'd be able to book a half day. Sadly, going by recent experience with my split up band, there seem to be jobs that just aren't compatible with a gigging schedule
9. First gig was upstairs at the Cardigan Arms in Leeds. Still very good friends with the front man. I was really nervous but I think it went ok. Was gutted to leave that band

I have a BD121 as a backup in case of amp failure. Sounds good to me.

edit: I'm stupid. Have a bump on me.
14. Its a truly great thing to be a small part of.
15.
There should be a second part to this poll - "How many do you regularly use?".
Only 1 regularly out of 2. I think I've played my back-up P Bitsa less than 5 times live, use it on rare occasions for recording or practice. My Schecter does everything I need a bass to do. Yes I know its not the fanciest but I love it and feel no compulsion to own another bass.
16. Welcome. Have been into the shop a few times. Bought a couple of bits and bobs from you. Edit - just realised that this is an old thread. damn. ah well, Welcome anyway.
17. I've said this before but I'll say it again here. I'm totally paranoid about things going wrong at gigs. The chances that they will are low but it helps my nerves to take a spare passive bass, spare cables and a passive DI Box to enable a rough and ready bass sound into the PA if something dies/breaks during a gig. As an originals player (mostly) I don't have responsibility for the PA. I would expect the sound engineer/venue to have suitable replacements for as much of the PA gear as possible. I think its much more important that the show continues whether or not my bass sound being replicated by replacement gear.
18.
Do you mean Orange Tiny Terror or Orange Terror Bass?
That was going to be my question. Have you tried it back at home? Could it have been dodgy power at the venue?
19.
Good song, excellent album. The various members of MSP grew up together and are bonded in a way that goes beyond musicianship so picking on particular members for what they can or can't do pretty much misses the point to me, and I'm not that big a fan of the band. Maybe Wire has developed the slightly larger than life stage persona to act as a foil for the fact that Bradfield's doing a lot of work vocally/musically can't really move around that much?
I like a lot of what they do and agree with this. If I was putting together a band to support a lead vocalist who also plays lead guitar then I would want a bass player who has stage presence and can move around.
20. This probably won't help much but the Ashdown EB's are a good range of combos. I used a 12-180 for gigging for about a year or so. Not sure how wonderful the DI is for recording. Would a good DI box (sansamp etc?) be more suited to your purposes?
21. Very good of you to help them find a replacement. Good luck.
22. I believe that he uses or used to use a 3 x SVT set-up to produce the clarity with the grit as well. 1 clean, 1 drivey and 1 dirtier. I think I also read that he uses 2 wah pedals together along with customised pedals. No idea how you'd go about emulating that without the cash and roadies. IMHO one of the great rock tones out there.
23.
Trouble with that is you lose the cymbals.
that's true. hmmm.
24. I have one and use it at gigs all the time. Does the job fine and keeps my asymmetrically bottomed bass upright. Never been knocked over.
25. I played a slightly altered version of this with a covers band a few times. Fraid I can't help with a transcription though. I enjoyed having a synth player take care of the noise and focusing on driving the thing. Great tune.
