2.
The biggest problem I've had is that anything played on the low e is really muddy...the other strings sit in the mix fairly well but that low e is just so boomy...by the time I've taken all the boomy frequncies out there is nothing left. Hopefully a decent pup and a new set of stings will help...!!
Just a thought but you could try lowering the pickup on the E string side? Might help
 3.
It all worked OK and I was bought a pint for my trouble
Sounds like a great evening.
 4.
be careful how you EQ your guitar. Make sure there's not too much bass on it or it will muddy up the mix and the bass guitar will be harder to hear.
Well said, bass heavy eq on a guitar is a huge bug bear of lots of bass players. Everything 51m0n has said +1
 5. Welcome to the forum. Leicester is obviously the new centre of bass playing.
 6.
Welcome aboard
Hurrah! Leicester Welcome to the forum.
 7. Welcome to the forum. Listening to Koss now, like it a lot.
 8.
What about the Graeme Mearns band. The drummer plays in another band with me and they seem like they may fit the bill. If they do give Ali Murray their drummer a message on Facebook http://www.facebook....hp?id=583992470
Just having a listen to these now. Loving it. Thanks for pointing my ears in that direction.
 9.
Lazy, yes. Bothered? No.
Ha!
 10. Listening to the band now. Really like it. Let us know if you come up to the midlands at all.
 11. I have one on my main bass. Great for swift tuning changes. Never had any problems with it.
 12. Love it when things work. A band should be greater that the sum of its parts and it sounds like you're on the way to that.
 13. Some great noises on here. I look forward to working my way through them all. Here's my solo page, all guitars, bass, vocals and (programmed) drums are me. Mixing isn't my strong suit so not perfect.
 14. Best of luck getting it sorted. Keep us updated on how it goes. Might be useful one day!
 15. Welcome to the forum.
 16.
The J-Lo is neither huge, epic, nor brutal!
I'll get my coat.
 17. Dunno, I would call that a very loose jam rather than an audition. IMO a jam can be a useful way of finding how a future writing partnership for originals might work out but for covers I'd expect a bit of prep. I'd also expect to be told the chords and changes in advance or told which versions of songs they do.
Just out of interest, has anyone here actually gone to an audition and told the band they've failed?
Not face to face but once after an audition/jam the band leader called to offer me the slot and I had to say thanks but no thanks.
 18. I have an Ibanez Phat-Hed for distortion and drive sounds which works quite well. What about the Ashdown James Hyperdrive?
 19.
Yep, and I bet it took a lot of failed attempts before you hit on the formula that works for you.
Correct. Still get nervous but now I have a way of managing it.
 20.
I find 'people' interesting. I've watched people I've worked with over the years just prior to gigs - some go quiet, others get loud, some can't sit still, some have 'lucky' guitar straps and others flop back in a chair in a semi comatose state. Those actions are all 'coping mechanisms' kicking in and, in experienced musicians, are all pretty much unconcious reflexes. The thing is though, those reflexes are a result of numerous failed attempts. It really is just a case of 'keep doing it' and give your subconcious a chance to sort out the wheat from the chaff.
Well put. For me it took a while to learn that I need to keep busy before a gig. Talk to people in the audience, check gear, go for a walk, warm up etc. Not stage fright but nerves to the point of shaking hands in the early stages of performing.
 21. Welcome to the forum
 22. .... .... Still processing all that info. Welcome to the forum.
 23.
We go out of our way to support him, big up his drumming (which is actually very good), go over stuff he is concerned about etc.
Sounds like you are excellent band mates. Supporting each other is all part of being in a band IMO.
