That's not the typical pickup/switch arrangement for a Jag is it?
As I understand it (and I may well be wrong) the Squier Jag's have a very different set up to the Fender Jag's Fender - multiple switching options and jazz pickups
I use guitars for composing and recording and never gig on them
Same here. I'm a terrible guitarist but fiddle around on electric and acoustic as part of writing and recording. I think an (admittedly rough) understanding of another instrument has helped me play with guitarists in bands and made me a better musician

Plenty of examples and bands in this thread.

August bank holiday is closing in fast. The first gig is Saturday 25th at Soundhouse in Leicester is anyone fancies it. Set getting nice and tight but nerves increasing too.
Depends where you're playing. When I used to play proper venues there was pa support. I'm in a function band now, and I'd say 99% of the venues don't have pa support. That is for weddings, parties etc.
Ah, I see. thanks, its been bugging me for a while. Now I know.

I use an Orange SP210 on an amp stand as a stage monitor which works perfectly for me. To be fair it probably would stuggle in bigger venues without PA support. Although it once coped well in a garden with a drummer and guitarist (1x12 combo I think) On a side issue (apologies) where are all these venues people play without PA support? I've only ever played 2 gigs without a PA.

You're finally coming to Leicester. Excellent. Will do my best to be there. Crumblin' Cookie is a great place. I'd recommend trying to get something to eat there if you can. Good food.

Anyone doing more than just playing bass?
rOB replied to basexperience's topic in General Discussion
Bass and lead vox in the new band. Bass and backing in every other band I've been in. Electric Guitar, bass, lead and backing vocals for home recording project. -
Further update. I booked our first gig for August bank holiday. Plenty of time to get the set super tight.
-
Update. After a couple more jam sessions where the potential singer didn't turn up I discussed it with the band. They were very keen and the drummer said that he'd been thinking of suggesting it himself. Looks like I'm going to go for it.
Will the £50 cover the petrol to collect it? Oh hang on they want you to give them £50 In all honesty it's got to be worth £50 hasn't it.
This is also a very good point.

Hmm, its very tricky to recommend amps to other musicians. Most people will recommend either 1) what they use or 2) what they started out with. To fall foul of the first of these I used an Ashdown EB12-180 in my first band. It totally did the job and even the new models would be within your price range. If I were you I'd browse the for sale section here, loads of cheap rigs that'll do the job. Another option is to go along to a shop with a decent selection of amps, try everything and see what takes her fancy.
Following a 1000 or so views on this guitar - no-one interested?
Apologies, dunno about anyone else but I came on just for a nosy at a lovely bass. I played one of these a while back, couldn't afford it at the time (still can't actually) but loved it and would like to have one at some stage. Have a bump on me.

Does anyone fancy having a go at being the singer for a new alt-rock band I'm putting together? Guitar, Drums and Bass/backing vox slots are filled so just looking for a singer so we can get gigging asap. Based in Leicester but hopefully gig around the midlands and beyond depending on how things go. Songs written (think QOTSA, Primus, BRMC, Nirvana), iffy recordings can be found here http://soundcloud.com/robs_solo_recordings. If you don't fancy it but know someone who might want to have a go then let me know. Cheers all
Does anyone who has more that one speaker cab split them up. For example, placing a cab either side of the drummer? If this isn't a good idea why not?
Interesting question. I've never seen it done but would be interested in anyone experiences with it.

stage left whenever possible. Close to hi hats and less chance of my head stock colliding with anything on stage.

Welcome to the forum. We have plenty of music and plenty of gear.
Also bear in mind that outdoors sound just gets lost so even PA tops that'll do a decent sized hall won't seem very loud at all!
Well said. IME outdoors you need a lot more air moving power than inside. Guess its because there are no roof and walls to reflect the sound, plus you usually end up covering a pretty big area at outdoor gigs.
I love playing in a 3 piece and seem to have become the lead singer. Love that as well. So here's a few tips for you from my own experience. .... Hope this helps a bit, It's helped me.

Some are naturals and some will never learn it, but I think that most people can learn this role very well, and that the core is to force oneself to grow as a person, not take oneself too seriously and to go on stage with one thought only: addressing the audience and being there for them. ..... Worked wonders. I can now do any size of audience, including the very hard almost-no-audience. Most people can too, I'm convinced.
Good tips, thanks.
Don't want to go too much against the flow, but....... if your vox or front person skills aren't upto it then you will only handicap the band. I see way too many 3 piece bands handing out the vox as it maximises income, but it also kills the band if the guy can't carry it off..and since lead vox are the single most important thing people can connect to, IMO, it isn't a job done lightly.

Very true JT, it`s the singer that sells the band.
You're both absolutely right, I understand that and if it comes down to it, I'll need to put the work into the front-person aspects of my performance. Although its worth noting that this isn't about income (we're an originals band so little money involved to begin with), its more to do with getting gigging sooner rather than never as we simply can't seem to find anyone to be our front-person.

Right, gonna suggest it to the band and see what they think.
Funk, R&B, I don't play much of either so I can't comment. Soul? Oh yes. Maybe roll the Gain down towards 9 and boost the Master Volume to compensate, but you can get a lovely rich tone for Soul / Stax / Motown from an OTB. Flats help a lot, of course.
Yep, IMO it can give lovely clean tones as well as the dirt.
