The best advice I can give is to invest in a decent pair of monitors for yourselves and also to leave the trickiest songs until the audience are hammered.

I love well-played double bass. I've had a go - it was not well-played when I was doing it.

I'm the other way - I've moved from pick to fingers. Easier to do string-jumping but harder to keep rhythm, I'd say.
