Much better to use a decent amp stand. The one I have is very compact and lightweight, plus has a fitting for a mic boom - handy for PA guys looking to mic guitar cabs! I loved it for my own bass gigs and whenever I did sound for guitards who turned up too loud through little Fender-type combos, since once their overly-directional little combos were firing directly at their ears they'd turn right down. Hallelujah! recommend it: http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~U...150~ID~5498.asp
oo that's tempting. Would save having to buy a new combo for monitoring and looks like it would fold down pretty small. Any idea of how much weight they can bear? Anyone else with recommendations for amp stands that fold up nice and small but can still hold about 30Kgs without any worries of it collapsing?
Thanks guys. Not much about in my price bracket with the suggestions you gave me. Any thoughts on this ?? : GK amp
Some info on this range here Link

played with my rock covers band at Loaf in Leicester last night for a friends party. Arrived in the afternoon to find the room full of restaurant furniture. Bit of a mare getting set up but got everything up and soundchecked on time. Very helpful staff made us really welcome. Played an iffy set to be honest but the crowd seemed very appreciative with plenty of nice comments. Back to the drawing board on a few songs! Edit - would also like to add (as it makes me sounds manly) that I played both sets with a cut on the tip of my left index finger. Sliced it on some metal foil on Friday. Ouch
It's the way it has generally always been. Having said that, Ampeg, Behringer, Fender, Gallien Kruger, Hartke, Eden, Laney and SWR all make angled combo's, so there are more choices out there than you might have imagined...
Ah perhaps I just need to look a little harder.
I use a "Heavy Duty" Tiger amp stand for my Ashdown Mag300 Combo - works fine and cost about £20 off evilbay.. Works a treat.. It can be adjusted for height/stability...
Looks like it'd be perfect but I'm trying to avoid an amp stand just as its yet another bit of kit to carry and load in/out.

Wow didn't really expect any response to this question. Thanks everyone.
I've been approaching custom cabinet makers over the years with requests to build a lightweight tiltback cab and strangely enough noones interested. Ended up doing the initial design for one myself but haven't got the power tools yet to start.
Would be very interested in hearing how this goes. Any chance of a build thread in the future?
Why not fit a set of Fender tiltback legs? £50? And piggyback clips and screws if you're running a head / cab arrangement. Another £50 imported?
mm tempting. Anyone have any experience of how stable these are?

This may be a stupid question and I may be being particularly dense or displaying my lack of experience here (both very possible) but why aren't there more kickback/wedge shaped amps/cabs on sale? It seems that most gigs I go to or play at the bass is put through the PA in which case the amp is really only for stage sound. PA monitors are mostly wedges so why are most combos and cabinets straight (is that the right word) designs? Unless you're using a cabinet stand or have a tallish stack then isn't most of your sound being projected at your legs/waist? Any wisdom to be shared on this would be appreciated. Cheers, Rob
I'm look to check out the cabs too so will be interested to see what opinions there are. The first shipment should arrive at the start of the December with TC stockists here. I'll probably be making a trip to Mark at Bass Direct when he gets some in and will report back.
any first hand experience of these would be much appreciated
I'm very tempted
me too just watching the videos on their website. What a nice, engaging guy! Love the idea of a tube emulator and presets. Shame the presets don't seem to be footswitchable

METAL BASS player available (female) NORFOLK!
rOB replied to i love Metal!'s topic in Bassists Available
Hi Clo, Good luck finding something
iv been finding it hard to find a band that will consider having a female bassist
This makes me cross. I hope you find people who realise that gender is irrelevant and manage to make some kickass music -
Had been playing Blues and Jazz clarinet for about 5 years so had a decent idea of how music worked and what sounded good. Went to see a local gig (probably charity fundraiser) when I was 13/14 for my first experience of live rock. Felt the bass in my feet and loved it but didn't really pick up an electric instrument till I could afford to buy my own maybe 5 years later. It was a starter pack (bass & amp job) by Hartke, bass was horrible but the little amp was alright, I gave it all to a friend who was just starting out, I think he still uses the amp for home practice now.
PS: Or just tell me I'm an idiot and I should rather keep the bass as is.
happily! I think it looks rather fetching. PS obviously can't advise due to limited experience of high grade components but if it sounds "really sweet" now, then why change it? I guess if you think it'll make a difference then go for it.

"it makes me tingle from my head to my toes!" love it. Is this a new program? Does anyone know who writes/plays the music?

Hiya, welcome to the forum

no idea about the bass but I've always loved that picture too. Sorry, nothing more to add
The Ashdown octaver thing, especially if we're talking about the small combos like my old Electric Blue 12".
+1 on that. useless.
It's called a slab body - or at least it is on a Precision bass.
Thanks very much. I knew there'd be a word for it. They're not necessarily the most comfy to play but I just love how they look.
Well that's easy enough - Orange Terror Bass. If you haven't tried one, do so. Simply awesome piece of kit.
oo, looks like just the job. Just need to start saving up!

I would like an amp that I can carry in one hand but has the ability to play quiet and loud with enough power to fill a medium size bar/pub and cut through a drummer and 2 guitarists. oh and sound like creamy thunder!
-
ooo what you Gassing for?
-
I really like basses with corners, not sure what the right word is. Erm when the body has been cut out but not sanded down round the edges. Think the edges of a Les Paul rather than a Strat?
-
just read this thread through. Its now officially the afternoon so update please!

I was also looking at one of these online. Haven't been able to hear one yet so would also value knowledgable opinions
-
not for me thanks
I have played some awful gigs going only through the PA, stage monitoring is a lottery at the best of times.
mm I guess that's the important bit isn't it. Just loved the idea of not have to deal with transporting an amp!

Sad news. my thoughts go out to his family, friends and band mates
