I used to do this quite a bit but hadn't done it in ages until recently when I saw a band which had a great bass sound. Then I just couldn't help myself, had to wait till the end of the gig and sneak through the crowd to have a peek at the pedal board. Turned out to be really ordinary (common, mid price stuff) but just used really well. Made me smile.

I'm having a similar problem going from a Jazz-style neck to a thicker P-style so I'm looking into replacing the thick neck with a slimmer one.

always 2 and spare strings. They are both fretted 4 strings and I only ever play one. I've never had a failure but can't stand the worry of snapping a string mid song and having to change strings on stage in front of a crowd.

humm, tricky one. I guess it depends on the genre, the gig and how convincing the performer is? When on stage (to be fair its been a little over a year), I get very self conscious and struggle to perform (other than playing the music)

I reckon there are probably pluses and minuses to both. If you're versatile you'll find it hard to get bored (as has already been pointed to by Doddy) with what you do because you can always move on and do something else. On the other hand if you have a strong style that's unique or interesting in some way you might feel that there's something very personal about that sound/stlye which can also be a great feeling. At the moment I'm trying to work on being more versatile (hence joining a funk/pop/soul covers band) because I love playing different styles to my usual rock/punk styles but I do love doing my thing too!
