1. This one gets my vote.
2. Brian Bromberg for me. Anything on upright from the album "You know that feeling"
3. Sounds like the gig of your dreams. Congratulations for putting it all together.
4.
Well, it's this bread, only it's made with potatoes. You fry it, and it's lovely with an egg and some bacon.
This sounds like a hash-brown but I think I remember having this once with a huge Irish breakfast in Cork. Edit: (Obviously wrong here as I've just read it's from N.I.)
5. Caught that the other night. Thought she was brilliant. (And the band)
6.
Seriously disappointed at the context in which the word "slap" is used in this thread. This should go in the "Off Topic" forum where I can talk about my chronic masturbation problem.
Away you go, we're all listening.
7. Did we ever find out what The Hat meant with the original post? I remember Milty and me asking and since then, the thread has covered potatoe bread, God, the first 119 Metallica albums and the Rammerstein's window cleaner
8. Are you saying that there's no need for a bassplayer in a metal band, or are you saying you wouldn't want to play bass in a metal band? Metal is not my thing personally and of course there are a few scenarios where you can play without bass but I've never heard of anything rock orientated which doesn't require a bass.
9. Not if I can get the setlist all on one sheet in 20 pt font size. That way I can read it when it's on the floor. Otherwise, prescription shades.
10. Proper acoustic insulation is expensive. Over the last few years here, I've been involved with quite a lot of dry lining work including two rehearsal studios (mine and a friend's) I used the real stuff for mine from a local company called Eurocoustic but only because I got some B stock with damaged boxes. Rocwool is not really dense enough to make a difference as it's more designed to have good thermal protection qualities. The good stuff comes in panels and is much more dense and heavy. As BigRedX points out, the secret is layers. I'm assuming that you'll be partitioning off say, half of your garage and that some of the walls will be brick. Best to put up some stud work, fill that with the cheap stuff, board it (10mm board will do) and then another layer of stud on top, fill that, and then board with 13mm, compacting each layer of insulation as much as possible each time. Of course, if you're leaving any windows in the studio section, they would ideally need to be covered too but you'll never really be able to completely isolate 100% of the sound.
11.
I don't want to upset the smarter old people around here so I should point out I'm using 'old people' as a polite way to avoid saying 'thick people'.
You? banned from OT? Can't imagine how that could happen. Re the OP. No complaints here whatsoever but then I'm very shallow and a lot of stuff goes over my head.
12. i DECLARE THIS AUCTION OVER. We have a winner ladies and gents. Truckstop, the obscenely rich 13th Earl of St Albans, has kindly bid the princely sum of £25. Would the lucky winner please PM their full name and address to me and I will send the item first thing Monday (may take a few days as I'm in France) May be best if you also PM Ped to see what he wants you to do with the money. Thanks all who placed a bid and joined in the fun and as usual, this is testament to the generosity of Basschatters. Thanks again, and a good weekend to you all. leschirons
13. 5 minutes to go so...BUMP.
14.
£25 I love Staffies, let's get this show on the road! Alex
This could be the winner, 38 hours to go.
15.
OK, I'll play. £12.50 Can you post to France, if my bid wins..?
Easy peasy, I think I'm only about 2 hours away from you.
16. Keep the 5 string. Not because it's a Sadowski, just because it's the most usefull you have for what you play.
17.
It'd go nicely with all the 'free stuff' I found the other day - what came in the original Who Live at Leeds LP
Oooh, that's a cracker of an album. Definately a keeper.
18.
Actually we prefer the term 'steel house'
Oh yah, right. No doubt you and Tamsin had the interior designers in too and have a Banksy on the side
19.
£7.50 (I must admit I normally give to human charities. Our neighbour is a rozzer and he's on his second abandoned staff his station saved. They have both made the kindest and softest pets you could know.)
You've got a rozzer and a staff as pets? That's kidnapping.
20. Bidding will end at 10 pm Saturday night (your foreign UK time) and the winning bid can be paid to either Basschat or Ped via Paypal (or cheque if you know the address of the old lorry container that he lives in)
21.
Just so this thread not die: £6 Does "Proceeds to BC coffers" mean that BC gets the money? best, bert
Yes, sorry Bert I should have made that clearer. The final winning bid will all go help Basschat. Thanks for your bid and of course if the winner is in Europe, I'll pay to send it there too.
22.
£5
V E R Y generous. This could be yours.
23. Before anyone tells me this is not allowed, I've asked the Gods. Well Ped anyway. We have here, a vintage Who song book which I found in the usual box in the corner, in the studio. I'll stand the delivery cost to the lucky winner. I guess it dates from about 1970 Bidding starts at £2.00 Go for it. A must for all you OX fans. Proceeds to BC coffers. Tracks covered. I can't explain My generation Anyway, anyhow, anywhere A legal matter It's not true La-la-la-lies A bit tired looking in places but a great bit of history all the same with treble & bass clef (and chords) Pics of each of the band inside.
24. I play in both. The covers band because it's impossible to find an originals band that covers some of everything I like. With this lot I get to play Rock, Funk, a little Jazz, some Blues and some Soul. All the numbers have been chosen because we all love them. Re the originals band, (French) it's different and exciting to play. It also pushes me when learning the songs as the writer lets me create the bassline so instead of just learning what some other player has created, I have decisions to make, some good, some not so, and I can revise them at any time if I think its an improvement. In addition to this, it's great to hear the evolutionary process happening. He writes the song, and then as the drummer and myself get involved it morphs somewhat and then again when the main guitarist has input. We'll get told if he thinks its strayed too far from the original idea but generally, we do what tthe song requires. But then, I'm probably in an originals band that is somewhat more democratic than the norm.
25.
Thanks All, I have learnt a lot from you. Now if only I had my rig and guitar with me in the office (where I am supposed to be working) I could try it all out now. regards, BYB
And now you know why you've sounded like Mark King for all these years
