1.
Which is why you can't see a key signature
I was seriously on a loser then in addition to me just seeing a load of fuzzy black stuff on the sheet. Sadly, I really wasn't joking about the magnifying glass
2.
Thanks for that Les but I think he's transcribed it in a different key!
Bugger. Ah well, going by the old faithfull last chord idea, it's as near as dammit some sort of "A" however, I have a tendancy to talk utter crap and understand nothing about Jazz so I'm probably not a good bet. Bilbo would probably be able to tell you.
3. If this helps, its a Youtube link showing the sheet music for Nebulosa. Problem is, its a little too small for me to read any key signature and I can't find my magnifying glass. You'll need to click play to see the front sheet.
4. I've not had any MIK Squiers but have had two E series MIJ. Both were exceptional guitars and although I opted to keep just my USA Strat, the others both played far better. They creep up in value so your investment would be safe. Not sure if that will happen to the Classic Vibes though.
5. Thank you all for the input. Still can't identify the actual model as Moeck have not come back to me. To answer one or two points, it did not come with the case but a local elderly professional flute player tells me that it is maple and is probably 20 years old. He was not aware of any of the school models being a three section instrument but says he could be wrong. His (only slightly informed) opinion is that it may have been the fore-runner to the Rottenburgh range. He's offered to take it to a shop in Paris for identification next time he's working there so will probably go with that. I had intended to move it on but having messed around with it for a week or so, it blows really nice and although I'll never be a good player, seems easy to get a passable tune out of it so may well keep it and use it at acoustic folky evenings. So, thanks again everyone
6. I can fly....I can fly
7. A great idea but doesn't quite have the mojo of a Watney's wooden crate
8. Curtis Mayfield is worth a listen and so is some of Isaac Hayes' stuff. Both great songwriters & performers. For some early fusion, check out the Japanese band Caseopia, their first album even had the Brecker brothers on it and they later hooked up with Lee Ritnour (and possibly Harvey Mason) for a couple of collaborations. Great stuff but maybe slightly off the mark for this post.
9.
Entirely possible if it's one of those haunted devil instruments (kind of like the bass equivalent of the red shoes). They don't come up often though.
Our holy grail of tone is all so personal though isn't it? I fully understand that most other people may think the sound I like is utter cack in their eyes ( or ears) I haven't even plugged it in to my other rig yet and when I do, although the playability will still be there, I may not be so happy with the sound. Guess I was just lucky that what I did plug into happened to give me what I wanted immediately (Genz Benz Shuttle combo) Not really sure how much any modern amp will colour a sound. I see what you're saying though, I could pick up an identical bass and hate it.
10.
The joy of two volume controls on a Stingray hey? Glad you're happy with it though mate And as I said to Keith when he picked up the bass, my £200 Squier CV is one of the best purchases I've made on any incarnation of this site.
Happy with it? I'm over the moon Josh. Thanks again (and sorry I had no time for a chat) Stay lucky.
11.
Yup, it's new to you so it sounds marvellous. Then in a few weeks you'll be thinking it's maybe lacking something you can't quite put your finger on, after a few months you'll get your hands on something else that's "even better".... and the process starts again. There is no cure for GAS.
I know what you're saying FR and it's probably true but in the past, I think I've attempted to convince myself over a certain period of time that the new exotic bass I've just bought was as great as I'd hoped it would be given the price I'd paid. This time however, it was a bit of a WOW moment, and not just for me, the rest of the band too, With the Fbass, Spector and Alembic etc, I always told myself that I'd get used to the neck, get used to the sounds, get used to the feel etc. This cheapy immediately seemed perfect to play and has the sound I've had in my head for all these years but never achieved. So, who knows? For the moment I'm happy to believe that I've found bass Nirvana and can't be arsed about what name is on the headstock.
12. Over the last few years, quite a few nice basses have been through my hands. Alembic, Vigier, Fbass, Spector, Custom shop Fender and Status. Couple of weeks ago I bought an £80 OLP MM3 5string from BC member Josh (great guy to deal with) with partly working electrics. I had planned to make this a fretless project however, after 10 minutes with a soldering iron, I fixed the problem (wire off the front vol control) and now, I seem to have found the tone and playability I'd wasted about £10,000 on trying to find. Haven't picked up anything else since and the expensive stuff have been relegated to wall hangers. Not going to defret it now. There's a lesson here somewhere.
13.
and to prove what fun it is - here is my mother after she found my drum kit in the back room
Is she available for a dep in April? €90, all drinks and a meal. Our drummer is available but your mum looks cooler.
14.
Ahhh but I said "Looks like" I realised with the double panelled stitching it could have been a smaller surface area, so therefore It "looks" like a sofa but it could be any leather coated sitting/bum parking item. Most likely the curved plastic arm version as often supplied with the oval arm system not the straight ones as they came in later in production of that model.... ** Now I'm doing that BC expert/forum thing of trying to sound like I know more than I do by guessing & waffling in equal measure lol
Okay, I'm giving up recorders and music in general after this post. See my new "Sofa" Forum along side "Other instruments" I'm offering the Mod job to Fumps. You'll all have the smiles wiped off your faces when "Sofa-chat" is the talk of the town
15.
Looks like a Sofa ....up close
Well that just goes to show how little you know about recorders. It's an office chair
16.
Does it have a serial number? It will often be on the head joint somewhere embossed into the wood. If you have a serial number then Moeck will usually be able to help. Their customer support are usually pretty helpful with identification and stuff.
I've scanned this with a magnifying glass and there is no serial number anywhere. But now you've mentioned customer support, I guess I may be able to send the pictures to them. Thanks for the input.
17. The OP hadn't intended it to be a classified ad. He was just posting that he's had enough and wants to move on to something else. Fair enough if he gets nothing out of playing bass any more. Sounds like he's thought it all through to me.
18. Hi, I have a Moeck 3 piece recorder (soprano I think, it blows a D with all holes uncovered) it's 33cms in length and made of what looks like maple or maybe box wood. Problem is, I can't identify the model, The Moeck website is no use and when I look at suppliers websites, there seem to be about 10 models that all fit the description, ranging from £90 to £500. Any help appreciated.
19. Just collected an OLP from Josh. Only sorry that I didn't, have time to stay and chat. Goods better than expected, and obvious that he really looks after his gear. Bottom line, lovely guy, pleasure to deal with and a credit to Basschat. Buy and sell with utmost confidence. Great comms throughout.
Are you leaving because you can't spell deleting?
So, its your job to make SURE he leaves is it?
21. I saw a red Status Energy in the for sale section recently (and a green one) Great sound, body not huge and a shallow neck. They weigh next to nothing as the body slab is about as thick as a Rizla. My first proper bass one of those. Great value for money and very playable. Other than that, a Hohner Steinberger.
22. Maybe it was for the for sale section. If so, does it play like butter?
23. Hi, you need to state a value for your Genz
24. Talking to my pals back in the UK, what you're getting for a pub gig is around the norm. There are one or two bands I know who get quite a bit more but they are known for bringing a huge following and never fail to pack a pub to breaking point. If you're going to move towards function / private gigs, the chances are that your rock covers setlist will need a few changes as people will want danceable party numbers and you'll need to be flexible when you see your audience. The function bands I've played with in the past had all been able to adjust the setlist as we went along depending on what we've thought the audience would be up for on any given night. I wouldn't go out on a function with any less than 80 - 100 numbers under the belt and there will be some established bands on here that have many, many more in their repetoire. Therefor, a lot of work goes into it and should be charged for accordingly. Over here (France) most of the bands I've played with go out for 350 - 400 euros for a bar or restaurant gig, 500 - 600 for a function and the occaisional little great payer if it's something special like the French guitar festival where our trio got 350 each for a 30 min set but they are few and far between.
