1.
Any BC'ers like Tune basses ? I bought one recently (Japanese manufactured Bass Maniac) , and cant seem to put it down,.. I love it.
Yup, I'm a fan. Been looking for one of the natural 6 stringers for about five years now. I know someone on here has one so I'm always on the lookout for it coming up in the marketplace. Great basses and really worth the money.
2.
Hi guys i just finish that it came out as an idea i had a clear pickguard and then suddenly poped my mind. I am fan of comis and i wanted a bass painted with comics but this is very difficult so i thout of cutting an image and put it behind it what u think? Do you like it or you prefer it like it was before? Before After
Bloody hell Manos, if you'd TOLD me you were going to do that, I'd never have sold it to you. Ha ha. But now I've seen it, it looks seriously cool. You've no chance of buying the F bass now though in case you put a big pair of tits on it.
3.
Bump for this for a real gent to deal with
Hi mate, thanks for that and great to hear from you. How's the fretless Ray going?
4. Fedex cost me $250 for a three day service that took a week and then I copped a charge of €500 import and TVA (VAT)
5. Just a quick word about a thread like this. (As I've been there) Sometimes, being a member of Basschat can come up in conversation from time to time with other band members. These posts are viewable by guests. They can usually work out if it's someone they know. I had a pop at a drummer I played with once and he saw the post. Tricky.
6.
I've only ever been in one band where I liked everybody. Usually it's sax players who are the problem.
+1 Maybe we've both been in the same band at some point in past lives.
7. Yeah, he's different, and not as weird as some of you lot. He's just having a good time. Good luck to him.
8. For me it's simply what the bassist is playing and how well he's playing it. (When I say "what" I don't mean the instrument) Picks or fingers, doesn't matter to me as long as it sounds good. although, I play 99% fingers and use a pick just for the "Lizzie" stuff.
9. Hiya mate, As you said you were "thinking of buying a fairly large combo" and obviously haven't committed yet, maybe you could check out other combos that do have a headphone socket.
10.
Always loved the Berettas... and I'm strangely drawn to that butchered '70s Strat, even though I don't like natural finishes or maple necks - I guess it's good to know that not all the classic Fenders escaped the '80s big hair days. This one suffered so that all the suspiciously pristine ones could live. Er, or something...
Well, the Strat is now up for sale as I've only had daft e-mails from French guys asking if I can put the original trem and pickups back on. DUH? In addition to this, I cocked up the dating and now having gone further into it with Strat Central and being told NOT to trust the Fender website. It's a 74 NOT a 77. Here's a link to one of the many sites with better dating info. http://www.guitardaterproject.org/fender.aspx Log on, enter serial (571240) no prefix and it will come up. So even more vintage-ier if that's a real word. In fact, how much more vintage-ier can it be? none, none more vintage-ier. Anyway, it's here, has a possibility of getting back to London / Essex on Monday night and is £800
11. Up for grabs is an SKB type rack case. 6 unit and in great condition although a tad dusty inside. Ideally need to sell before Monday as that is when my mate goes back in his van (Essex / London) it can then be picked up from him or he can deliver it if you speak to him about a nominal cost. The front and rear covers are only off for the picture. All catches in perfect cond. If it sells after Monday, he'll be back over for New Year and can take it back on the 3rd January. £45.00 Thanks, leschirons
12.
+1 to that. I'm a sucker for green guitars, lol.
Funnily enough, the French guy that just bought the red one told me the green one made him feel sick to look at it. (Weird)
13. A few of you may remember that I have the unpleasant job of selling some guitars for a friend's widow. I need to do a lot of work to clean, photograph, date and price up all these but this is what will be on offer after I've done all that. It will be easier to try and sell these here due to transport issues. Whatever is left (if not all, as the French have just as little money as the UK at present) will be offered on Basschat and then Ebay. Transport will then be arranged via a reliable insured courier although the possibility exists that I may be able to bring them over to London/Essex. This is now what is for sale. With prices. Mail me with any requests for more pics. Ignore the two PRS 22 customs. They have both gone. 1974 Strat 3 bolt (unfortunately with a licensed Schaller Floyd and 3 Seymours) Natural. £800 1988 USA Neptune Kramer Baretta 1 "Eye" graphics by Klein. £550 1985 Kramer Baretta, black, USA custom order. £500 1991 Heartfield Elan3 Dimarzio HSH and real Floyd. Transparent red. £1200 Les Paul gone gone gone....
14. Got booked for a gig about 7 years ago by a rich guy who lived local who said he was having a "Life's too f***ing short" party. (His words, not mine) Not a big payer, £300 but really local, so no probs. We turned up, set up, started playing at 8.30, in a marquee with no-one in it except the band. It was so hot, everyone was outside chatting. 9.15, he comes in, hands us £400 and says thanks lads, really enjoyed it ???? I was back indoors at 10.15 in front of the telly. Shame, because we were seriously on form that night and playing everything you'd want to dance and sing along to.
15. Rory Gallagher, Marquee, 1967.
16. 15 years old (when it was £.s.d) on drums, at the Mildmay Tavern in north London. Run by a short fat Jewish guy with a cigar. Played our first set to 8 people and in the break the owner told us that every band had to play "Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner" as the last number at 10.00 as a cue to drink up. We didn't know it / couldn't play it / thought we were too cool to play it and refused so we were told to pack up and go with half our money (£5) which we spent in the Wimpey on the way home before remembering we had to pay £6.00 for the van, hired from a mate, the next day. Great days, wouldn't trade the memory for anything.
17. I knew, ner ner ne ner.
18. Can't get enough of your love, Bad Company Sharp dressed man, ZZ Top Down at the doctor's, Dr Feelgood Word up (Gun version) Rollover Beethoven / Jonny B Goode, Chuck Berry Hey Joe (Yuck) Hendrix Pretty vacant, Pistols Breaking the law, Judas Priest Whisky in the jar (Lizzie version) All easy peasy
19. It'll be great on the night. 1st law of music. sh*te rehearsal = good gig.
20.
There is precedent for this in the guitar world. Blues/jazz genius Robben Ford had his signature Fender guitar p/ups wired straight from the selector switch to the output jack. Tone was altered via the amp and vol was controlled via a vol pedal. His guitar tone was and is to die for. I'm not saying that one way is better than the other (I wouldn't be without my passive tone control) but just that there is precedent among the great and the good.
Guthrie Govan's new sig guitar has a switch that puts everything full up onto the bridge humbucker, straight to the jack for solos. ( Sold my Robben Ford Esprit Ultra last year, big mistake)
21.
..............or a Hohner B Bass V? G.
+1 Had one of those, great bass for the money and really easy to play.
22. I've done two of my own basses in the past. (One Jazz and one Telecaster bass) Taking your time is the key to success. I filled the slots with veneer. Took about a week of evenings to do each one and they both turned out great. Although if you can get someone to do it for £65-£80. Go for it.
23. Did a 2nd guitar dep a few months ago for an English band who come over twice a year to play for a weekend. Their drummer lives here but their rythym guitarist couldn't make the gig so I stood in. Drummer, been playing 40 years (ex No1 UK charts band and had a superb kit) Guitarist, been playing 40 years (ex pro and with guitar and rig to die for) Bass player, been playing 30 years (semi pro, Squire jazz and an old Peavey rig) Quickly realised maybe why the other guitarist couldn't make it. I got offered a permanent place in the band (twice a year?) Not because I was good, more because I knew the intro chords to White room. THEY failed the audition. Although the bass player aquitted himself with honours.
24.
I like their superalloys but the cost now proves prohibitive!
I bought a violin set last year. £39.00. Now that's prohibitive.
25.
Thanks to all. I will also check out the website you mentioned Nick Of course it may be all in vain if Mrs Clarky gets the bit between her teeth girlie shopping-wise
All this will be academic after you've bought 2 coffees for 20 Euros. Check out Pigalle, that's where most of the music shops are.
