  1. More or less. I've noticed that the neck pup is quite a bit lower than the bridge so I might try raising it a fraction.
  2. It is. '92 Squier Silver Series Jazz bass
  3. Thanks tauzero. I do have the input turned on. I'm beginning to think it is an input issue of some sort, but quite what I don't know. If I apply an effect it is definitely loud enough but when I turn the effect off it's back to a muddy, low volume. I suspect it might be something to do with gain but don't know if that can be adjusted for the clean signal.
  4. I'll probably be in the market for a new practice combo soon too. My 27 year old Carlsbro Viper 30W is doing the same as yours - crackling pots, even cutting out altogether. I've been looking at the Fender Rumble 25 V3 and the Laney Richter RB2 30W, but might even look at the Fender Rumble 15 as I doubt I'll ever be playing outside the bedroom.
  5. I'm not sure if the issue is with the Tascam or my bass. I only got the device yesterday and when I tried it the bass volume is very low, even with the input turned up full or almost full. Playing recorded music sounds fine but when I try to play along with a song I just can't hear my bass. I tried adjusting the balance but it didn't make much difference. does anyone have any ideas?
  6. We're supposed to wear a hat? I knew I was doing something wrong...
  7. Has anyone mentioned Husker Du or Yeah Yeah Yeahs?
  8. Thanks Cetera. I knew that venues had to have the PRS license but wasn't sure if royalties were paid solely through them.
  9. I saw the Aussie Pink Floyd many years ago. They were excellent and as far as I know actually use a lot of Pink Floyd's old gear. How do tribute acts work with regards to royalties to the original bands?
  10. On the US side I've got the likes of Blondie, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Velvet Underground, the Stooges On The UK side I've got Joy Division, Iron Maiden, The Beatles, Buzzcocks, Sisters of Mercy etc How can I possibly choose one over the other?
  11. Would we even have had Metallica if we'd never had Iron Maiden?
  12. I've just read through this whole thread and am stunned by these basses.
  13. I'm not 100% sure, but think it was Peggy Sue, followed by Sheena is a Punk Rocker.
  14. Would that be the same bass? The photos are quite a few years apart - check the tattoos.
  15. Thanks for the welcome Marc. I've always been happy with the Silver Series. It makes me feel old using what some people would probably now term a "vintage" bass.
  16. Started 27 years ago, took a break and have come back to it in the last couple of weeks. So much time wasted.
  17. Thanks Bigsmokebass. Obviously it will take a bit of time to get the strength back in my fingers, but I am enjoying it. I've bought a couple of books with play-along features (one general music with a lot of theory stuff, one Iron Maiden and one punk rock). I'm already penniless so I think I'll be fairly safe in Marketplace. I've already got a couple of other expensive hobbies (cycling and photography) and have managed to learn how to avoid GAS.
  18. It's in pretty good nick. There's a bit of rust on the poles of the pups but it plays fine.
  19. Cheers Frank. It was in a case, naturally.
  20. Hi Teebs. Thanks for the Welcome.
