1. I had a quick go on a short scale Squier Jaguar a while ago & was very impressed given the price. Think the black one with the tort plate is full scale, but sure you could have one made... Cheers, B.
 2. Fascinating documentary - thanks for posting. I couldn't find it on cable either, but it's definitely worth sitting in front of a laptop for half an hour to watch... Have they done anything similar on Jim Marshall? If Dartford was the centre of rock & roll in the early '60s then by the end of the decade Milton Keynes can't have been far behind! Cheers, B.
 3. What sort of bass is it? If it uses the Steinberger system then you won't be able to use double ball end strings on a shorter scale. The only shorter headless I've seen using double ball ends is the Status King Bass, which has the 'Bendwell' system to make up the string length. The capo is a really good idea to be honest & a non-destructive way to check that shortening the scale is for you. I tried this once on a 34" scale before I bought a shorter scale. I really struggled with all the dots being two frets out though - were you planning a new fingerboard too? If you really want a headless shortie then it might be better to sell your bass & buy a Kramer Duke - short scale Steinberger copy from the '80s that uses standard strings. I think there was one for sale on here a while back. Cheers, B.
 4. Nice fingerboard - I'd be tempted if I didn't have more than one of these already! Good luck with the sale. Cheers, B.
 5.
Nile is a bassist's guitarist, if you know what I mean
Totally - he knows how to leave space in a groove! He was on Later briefly this week & came across really well. Looking forward to his new book... B.
 6. Link to more feedback on another thread here
 7. Thanks Roger - enjoy the amp. I'll link this back to my other feedback thread here
 8. Sold Roger an amp. He's a total pleasure to do a deal with - thanks again for being so understanding when the courier let us down. Enjoy the amp & hope your arm's fixed soon! Cheers, B.
 9. If you're into funk then I've heard good things about Hoochie Coochie just over the Tyne Bridge from the Hilton - not been myself, but they're putting on funk gigs & then have a soul club until the early hours. Trillians is definitely the place if you want to rock... B.
 10.
The location I described is just 'The Dog', the D&P is across the road.
Don't think that place does any gigs, but the Dog & Parrot definitely does. Haven't been for a bit though... To the OP - http://www.thecrackmagazine.com/ is a pretty popular what's on up here. Cheers, B.
 11. Some really good suggestions here - there's a lot of choice if you know where to look. Just out of interest, is your other half from Newcastle or out towards the coast? The Magnesia Bank in North Shields is one of the best places in the North for seeing a band while having a few pints - usually rock / blues / soul stuff. If you stick in town then the Ouseburn is my favourite crawl & is where many of the pubs mentioned here can be found. More info here - my favourite place for a few drinks & a decent view over the river is the Free Trade, just up from the Tyne & virtually untouched since the '70s (no music though). Enjoy! B. Chris - don't think the Dog & Parrot is a gay pub. Are you thinking of the place over the road that used to be called the Barking Dog?
 12. I've never bought anything from Brandoni, but they used to be happy to have visitors to the warehouse if you're ever in London. There's such a wide variation in their stock & the site doesn't really give you a lot of info, so it might be worth asking them to mail you some pictures before ordering... Cheers, B.
 13. Thanks for the interest - the amp is now [s]on hold pending payment[/s] sold. Cheers, B.
 14.
PM'd
...and replied. Cheers, B.
 15. Hi - I'm putting my Phil Jones Flightcase up for sale. If you don't know PJB stuff, the combos are really compact & use multiple 5" drivers that have a surprising amount of bottom end for their size. Tech specs from the PJB site are: - Model - Flightcase BG-150 Type - Lightweight bass combo,150W output,1CH,5 band EQ,limiter, upward & front facing speakers x 4,Active/passive input, headphone out,DI out,pre-amp out Size - 13.6 x 12.6 x 15.75 inch (H x W x D) Power output - 150W Speakers - 4 x PJB NeoPower Type A Net Weight - 24 lbs / 11 kg Volts - 100 to 240V AC It's in really good condition (I bought it on here & have only used it in the house) & comes with the original box, manual + amp cover. I can't upload pics for some reason at the mo, but I can send you some by e-mail if you're interested. I'm looking for £375 posted - they are currently £595 new at GAK. Here's a review by Ed Friedland - love the double bass bit at the end: - Cheers, B.
 16.
I think the Logo looks kinda cool, in a retro-Space 1999 way.
Do have to say the logo is the best bit!
 17.
Ezzackly. It's a handsome beast, eh?
18.
Satellite guitars and basses were sold in the Kays catalogue (others too? - probably) in the late 70s/early 80s. I have one from there/then with a 24" scale-length. Still works - I just checked. It's not quite as grimy as that P in the OP, and there's nothing left to say where it was made. Should such short-scale basses be tuned as normal I wonder? Maybe it would respond well to being tuned an octave higher...
Is it like this one? My mate brought one of these round my house & now refuses to take it back! It was pretty much impossible to use as a bass, so I put guitar strings on it - better, but still terrible. I was going to take it down the charity shop, but think I'd never have kept playing if this was my first bass - don't want some poor beginner being saddled with it! B.
 19. Sounds great - should get some interest in the For Sale section
 20. Blame Muse...
 21.
The for sale bit on here ?
Snap!
 22.
Oh great many thanks. The condition is quite good actually couple of minor marks here and there. Any idea where the best place to advertise it is? EBAY?
Why not sell it on here? Prices may be a bit lower than eBay, but once you knock the fees off there's not really much difference... B.
 23. A few of mine: -

Marco Nelson - He played on the Young Disciples' Road To Freedom album (Apparently Nothin' was the big hit) & most of Paul Weller's Wild Wood - lovely rounded boomy tone. Not sure he's done anything for a while.
Chris Hillman (The Byrds) - Some amazing lines going on under all the jangle.
Billy 'Bass' Nelson - Played with George Clinton early on & apparently came up with the word 'Funkadelic'!
Bill Laswell - More known as a producer, but a really solid dubby bassist
B.
 24.
I've noticed eBay prices seem quite healthy. Not having ever played one, what are they like for neck dive? The body shape doesn't look like it lends itself to good balance...
They don't really have neck dive, but the balance takes some getting used to if you're used to Fenders. Definitely a great-sounding bass for the cash though... B.
 25.
And the best question is...are Fender now making copies of Squiers?
Certainly looks that way to me - similar stuff going on with the 'Pawn Shop' guitars based on the Squier '51. Not too sure about these - the Tele looks like a '70s Jap copy with the big bridge pickup... B.
