1.
So, if you are the owner, or know where it is, please get in touch!
That'll be me! I've replied to your PM. Cheers, B.
  2.
Howard the Bass Doc has some new tort in stock which looks remarkably similar to what's on my 70s Ps & Js. Drop him a PM.
+1 - Definitely worth asking the Bass Doc about making one to match the one you have already if you're not sure about an off-the-shelf one lining up. That's what I did last week! Cheers, B.
  3. I've found there's a big tension difference between the 100s & 105s - love the 100s, but couldn't get along with the 105s. Great strings for the price & cheap too! Cheers, B.
  4.
I recommend the Status Hotwire line to everyone, they are fantastic... oh and they are made by Status themselves btw.
Didn't know that - have edited my my original post. Still hasn't stopped me buying loads of sets though - they're one of the few companies who make 32" scale strings that I like & a lot less than the big names too! B.
  5. I have a Session 60 & love it - great value for money! There are a few threads on here that are worth reading & I'd also recommend watching Dood's review - that swung it for me to buy one mail order as he really shows what the amp can do. Cheers, B.

    2X18 feedback

Did my second deal with Will today on a lovely old Squier & it was another smooth transaction. Will's great to deal with - he managed to combine a trip up north with a face-to-face meet to do the deal then generously threw in a few extra bits & bobs to help me out. Thanks again - it's been a pleasure! Cheers, B.

  9. Leo Fender's test bed bass was a plank & it worked OK for him!
  10. Lovely bass - it'll look great with one of Howard's tort plates on. The pickups remind me of this Jazz Bass prototype: - http://www.fender.com/en-GB/news/index.php/?display_article=503
  11.
Thanks for all your answers some good info there. Benebass I am from Newcastle Upon -Tyne also
Small world! Unfortunately I had a clear out a while ago, so don't have any spare flats sitting around at the mo. I think you'll find some on here soon though & I've found stuff on http://www.gumtree.com/newcastle or http://uk.freecycle.org/ in the past... Cheers, B.
  12.
Have I lost the plot or are auctions allowed on Basschat now???
+1 Forum Rules Are Here
  13. Status flats are really good value, but are pretty old school & thumpy. Might not be what you're looking for if you're new to flats, but I like them. La Bella or Thomastik tend to be the best all-rounders I've used. Chromes are much brighter - they sound like roundwounds at first, but they mellow with age. Unfortunately, all of these sets cost a lot more than rounds - I've found it an expensive business trying out flats! Cheers, B.
  14.
Ahhh I know Andrew well, thats so cool! Rob's family are some of the nicest people I've ever met, total sweethearts. I remember doing that show! I think it was on the first tour I did with them, supporting a god awful girl band if I remember correctly no? Dont worry if this farewell tour does actually happen there will definitely be a date up t'north. Most likely to be Barnard Castle for obvious reasons but its going to take a while to organize and get everything running smoothly. So keep you updated. x
I remember that girl band - there was a guy near us in the crowd who kept saying it was a travesty that you went on before them! Andrew's a great guy - he put together a band for our wedding last year with my bro guesting on vocals & did a great job. Hope to catch you if you make it up here - always happy to have an excuse to go back to the dale. If it takes a while to organise then it'll give you a chance to take your new Overwater out too! Cheers, B.
  15.
Bit late to the party, but I've got a video in the BC review section of the EBS session combo
I think your review was the thing that made me buy one actually - you should be on commission! Cheers, B.
  16.
Yes, that was me!! Where did you know us from?
Small world - my brother & Rob the drummer's brother were in the same class at school! Came to see the band at the Head of Steam up here in Newcastle a while back - great gig! Hope you'll be back up north on your farewell tour - Newcastle's not far from Overwater HQ... Cheers, B.
  17. Took a chance & bought one of these online recently. Impressive - I'd say it's the best small amp I've tried in the under £250 price bracket. Think EBS could shift a lot more of these if they had better distribution - I'm in the north east & my nearest stockist is in the Midlands! B.
  18.
So Chris will be giving me a ring hopefully this evening to go over the final details of the bass....I've decided to go for a white j series 4 string, 32" scale with rosewood fretboard and torteshell scratch plate. Possibly smaller machine heads and might have them slanting towards me too, so I can reach everything ok . It wont look custom to the eye but it'll be easier/better to play and probably (from what I've gathered) sound better (well cleaner) than a fender too! Keep y'all updated with how the conversation goes. excited much?!?! x
Hi - sounds good! I had a 32" scale Jaguar-styled bass made the Bass Doc recently (info here). I love it, but found the shorter scale took a bit of getting used to at first. A cheap way to try an almost 32" scale is to put a capo on a 34" bass at the first fret - might be worth trying that before pushing the button on the build to check it's for you... By the way, did you used to play in Unkle Bob? Great band! Cheers, B.
  19.
I studied at uni for a year and left when I got a job with a 35 year contract.
What do you do Chris? Didn't think there were many jobs left that offer contracts like that... To the OP - I think if you're not phased by the financial side of studying then I'd say go for it. Throughout history, it's the people who took a few risks that pushed things forward... Good luck! B.
  20. I have a defretted CSB-300 (the walnut one) & it's surprisingly good. Not heavy at all & while the neck's around Precision width at the nut,it's really thin so easy to get around. The hardware on these things is great - really solid bridge & a nice humbucker near the bridge. I think they were made in the same factory as early Westones, so a really solid build. At current prices you get a bargain compared to buying new! Coincidentally I'm thinking of moving mine on too, but that's only because I'm pretty rubbish on fretless... Cheers, B.
  21.
He's talking rubbish.
Totally! When I had a CV Jazz the first thing I did was have it strung with flats - no issues on the neck & worked fine. Sounded great too! If you want to try them on the cheap then I would agree that Status flats are worth a go - very old school sound. Cheers, B.
  22. I had a quick go on a short scale Squier Jaguar a while ago & was very impressed given the price. Think the black one with the tort plate is full scale, but sure you could have one made... Cheers, B.
  23. Fascinating documentary - thanks for posting. I couldn't find it on cable either, but it's definitely worth sitting in front of a laptop for half an hour to watch... Have they done anything similar on Jim Marshall? If Dartford was the centre of rock & roll in the early '60s then by the end of the decade Milton Keynes can't have been far behind! Cheers, B.
  24. What sort of bass is it? If it uses the Steinberger system then you won't be able to use double ball end strings on a shorter scale. The only shorter headless I've seen using double ball ends is the Status King Bass, which has the 'Bendwell' system to make up the string length. The capo is a really good idea to be honest & a non-destructive way to check that shortening the scale is for you. I tried this once on a 34" scale before I bought a shorter scale. I really struggled with all the dots being two frets out though - were you planning a new fingerboard too? If you really want a headless shortie then it might be better to sell your bass & buy a Kramer Duke - short scale Steinberger copy from the '80s that uses standard strings. I think there was one for sale on here a while back. Cheers, B.
  25. Nice fingerboard - I'd be tempted if I didn't have more than one of these already! Good luck with the sale. Cheers, B.
