1.
I've never had a problem with ordering from them. Maybe it's the actual postal service ?
Yeah, the service levels on standard mail are not what you'd expect - I think it's fifteen working days before you can register something as lost. Luckily my latest Status order turned up today despite the bank holiday... Cheers, B.
  2. I've bought loads of sets from them & they've always been really good with posting them. Ordered some strings on Wednesday & had an e-mail on Thursday saying they're in the post so expecting them over the next couple of days. I think they're quite a small operation now in terms of staff, but considering how much they charge for their strings it's worth giving them another chance - I'm really impressed with mine! Cheers, B.
  3. Hi - I'm putting my Fernandes Retrospect 5 up for grabs, as I don't really need a five string & it's not being played. I can't find much about these online, but it's a quality passive Chinese-made take on a Jazz Bass. The neck is really compact at the nut (it's about Precision width) & string spacing at the bridge is 17-18mm. I've found it easy to pick up after playing my four strings & if I didn't have somethiing coming in soon then I'd be keeping it. I think the body is alder (quite light) & it's a decent sunburst finish - there are a couple of dings, but nothing major & overall it's in very good shape. It's currently strung with La Bella flats (worth over £30 on their own), but I have the rounds it came with & I'll throw them in too. [s]Don't have a case/bag for it so can't do a postal deal at the mo[/s]. Managed to pack this for sending so I'm asking £175 posted, but would be interested in a cashdeal with collection from Newcastle upon Tyne. 4.
I think maybe the RBX range is what most people think of when they think of Yamaha's. I mean lots of pros have played Yamahas over the years so it's not as if they haven't tried to market the upper level instruments with signature models etc.
I've always thought that the fact that Yamaha haven't diversified with branding has stopped them from being accepted as a pro instrument by some. Fender have Squier, Gibson have Epiphone etc., but a Yamaha's always a Yamaha whether it's a RBX or a TRB. I think this does put some people off taking the higher end stuff seriously. Personally, I think they make consistently decent instruments at every price level, but can see how they are perceived as being a bit safe by some. Funnily enough, I had a SBV for a while & although it looked a bit mad, I thought it sounded more like a traditional Jazz than a lot of modern Fenders... Cheers, B.
  5.
Oh so glad you've come to your senses! What were you thinking? Repeat after me...never sell Groove basses.never sell Groove basses.never sell Groove basses.never sell Groove basses.never sell Groove basses.never sell Groove basses.never sell Groove basses
Yeah, we've definitely got something in common here! Still got that black Groove 5? Cheers, B.
  6. Hi - really sorry about this, but after reading the replies on the thread & playing the Groove for ages today I think I'll regret moving it on at the mo, so I'm withdrawing it for the time being. Looks like I'll have to find some other stuff to sell... PMs replied to. Conan - decent cab - thanks for the offer. Cheers, B.
  7.
How would you describe the sound/character of this beauty?
Hi Lacertus - I'd say it's character is obviously quite Stingray-like, but in general it's a lot less in your face. Neck profile's much slimmer & to me the sound is a lot more rounded, but I'm no expert as I've never owned a real Stingray. Cheers, B.
  8.
Looks really smart - best of luck!
Cheers merello! Just been playing it actually - forgotten how nice the neck is. If it wasn't for incoming stuff it'd be staying here to be honest... B.
  9. Hi - decided to put this back up for sale, as it's not being played as much as it deserves to be! There's not a great deal online about these, but they are pretty much Status' take on the Stingray, with a huge Trimax humbucker near the bridge & a 2 band EQ (with active / passive switch). The neck is much slimmer than a Stingray though - really comfy. I think it's from the late nineties & was built in the UK. In general it's in a pretty good condition for it's age (a couple of dings here & there), but when I got it there was a small crack behind the neck join. I discussed this on the forum (thread is here) & the consensus was that it wasn't structural. In the couple of years I've had it there haven't been any problems & it's had a pro repair job, along with a recent set up & restringing. I'm looking for [s]£300[/s] £280 for this collected (I'm based in Newcastle upon Tyne) - I don't have anything to post it in at present & I'd prefer any prospective buyers to have a look, as the repair really is a good job. Pics: - Cheers, B. P.S. 10. Think these would look great without a scratchplate, like the Rick 4004: - Cheers, B.
  11.
Have to say that I was annoyed by the reference/picture of the "Aria Pro II". The blurb referred to John Taylor and Cliff Burton as noted players - fine. But both these guys played an Aria Pro II SB and this was not the bass pictured. This information is so well-known in the bass domain that it just smacks of plain laziness to not have it presented fully and correctly. Rant over.
The small Hohner Jack picture is actually a guitar & not a bass... Cheers, B.
  12.
+1 for the Doc!
+2 for the Doc!
  13. Hi - is this the same bass? http://miltonkeynes.gumtree.com/miltonkeyn...2/73082832.html Cheers, B.
  14.
There's definitely some commercial seller on Basschat, though no rules against it, as far as i know
I don't think there are any rules either, but the Affiliates section is usually the place for any commercial sellers... Cheers, B.
  15.
what was that beast of a bass the guy from ZZ Top was playing? looked like a proper project!!
Don't know, but it sounded great - even on my tinny TV! Cheers, B.

  17. Just bought a La Bella B string off Nick. Thanks again for a really smooth & speedy transaction - it was a pleasure! Cheers, B.
  18. Interesting discussion. I think it's good to leave an opening post with details, pictures & asking price available after it's sold, as I find it a bit frustrating when searching for info & find the details have disappeared. Understand that pics need deleting for space though - is there a set time for deletion, or is it just when space is needed? I also like the idea of having a template for marketplace threads - don't know much about message board software, but if there could be a fixed format for original posts (restricted editing, validation that everything's there to meet house rules etc.) then it would certainly simplify things. Might not be possible without a bit of development, mind... Cheers, B.
  19.
Hi guys I play in a 3 piece rock band and every so often I think it would be pretty cool to play baritone instead of a more traditional bass. My reasoning is that it would be possible to cover most bass lines using the baritone but also play full chords every so often, which could help flesh out the sound of a 3 piece a bit. Anyone ever tried it, or have any thoughts?
Hi - most baritones only go down to a low B & most people playing ones that go down to low E don't seem to play full chords (there's some footage on You Tube of a guy demoing a Schecter Hellcat with various styles that's worth checking out). Might work though... As a first stab, you could try throwing in some simple chords on the bass you have & take it from there. It works for Lemmy! Cheers, B.
  20. I'd heard that the strength of the Yen was making all Japanese imports really expensive. This, combined with the success of the passive Squier Jag & the pending new active models coming out soon, have probably priced the Fender Jag out of the market. Still looks great though! Cheers, B.

  23. Mixed reports on these... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=59067 Cheers, B.
  24. Once read an interview with the Stereo MCs, who had just done some new stuff after disappearing for a few years after having a hit with Connected. They were discussing the recording process & said they always used a Satellite bass with knackered old strings on their tunes, but someone borrowed it & after they put new strings on it they had to have a five year wait before it sounded OK again! Cheers, B.
  25. Hi Tony - Sound on Sound are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year & did a retrospective issue a couple of months ago, so you might find more interest on their Readers' Ads page at the mo - issue one should go for a few bob to a fan over there! Cheers, B.
