1. Hi - I'll probably regret this, but following the 'one in one out' rule I'm going to put my Squier Classic Vibe Jazz up for sale. I bought it from Moos3h (original thread here) & he'd upgraded it with GFS JB Pro Jazz Bass pickups (approx. $100 US shipped here), which give it a much fuller sound than the stock pickups (more details on the pickups here). Since it's been in my hands, I've had it restrung with La Bella 760FX flats (.39 - .96 - £28) & professionally set up (£30). I've also swapped the scratchplate for a Mighty Mite red tortoiseshell one (£20) & changed the standard knobs over to knurled chromed steel ones (£15). I still have all the original hardware, so I'll include that in the sale. Condition is good - the only thing to report is a crack to the headstock varnish - this happened before I bought it & you don't notice it unless you look directly at the end of the headstock (see the original thread for a good pic of it). Overall, I think it plays, looks & sounds much better that an off-the-shelf one - a couple of people who've played it were surprised it was a Squier! It came to me in a brand new hard case, so I'll be happy to sell it on with the case for £225 posted within the UK. Cheers, B.
2.
Pick out the melody on the G string ,all the time playing open D as a drone note. Fist note is E on the G string with open D.
This footage of Hooky playing it at a benefit gig shows the fingering pretty clearly - I always thought he did the drone on D too, but I don't think he is here, as he drops down to play the final few notes of the riff on the D: - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8BdAUXfO18 The intro/bridge bit is an A - looks like he's doing the octave & fifth as a chord. Cheers, B.
3. Hi - I have found low Bs can sometimes be a bit lacking on a lot of 5s strung with rounds, so was wondering if anyone has found a flatwound low B to be better? My experience with the TIs were a bit disappointing, but was wondering about other brands - it's an expensive process trying out sets of flats so any help is appreciated! Cheers, B.
4. Hi - had TI flats on an OLP 5 string a while ago and, although I really like the four string sets, I found the low B was really flappy & undefined. I've always wondered what the La Bella 5s are like - the 4 string sets I've played have been great & preferable to the TIs. Mind you, the Status flats are relatively cheap & might be worth a go - anyone had any experience of them? Cheers, B.
5.
It's Camac, apparently
I think the Camac was a sister model that didn't have the cutaway at the bottom: - B.
6. I reckon yours is a BX7 that was never routed for a Jazz pickup near the bridge - they did come with a maple board: - http://www.fetishguitars.com/html/eko/catalogues/83/17.html Brandoni have assembled BX7 basses listed on their site for £325, but no pics unfortunately to check they are the same as yours: - http://www.brandoniguitars.co.uk/complete.asp Cheers, B.
7.
Id agree...itll be fine...oh....and... plus the picture looks like one of those Dr Who monsters!!!!!!...you know, the ones who live in fat guy costumes...?...!...??...no?... it just me that innit?? ? edit: or some type of pokemon thing....eh....eh.....?? I'll get me coat....
Don't watch Dr. Who, but do you mean these things? B.
8. Thanks for the replies - I've contacted the seller so we'll see what they say. It wasn't a Basschat deal by the way... Appreciate the advice - initially I didn't think it was structural either, but needed a second opinion really. It's a nice bass as it is & reckon it'll be a cracker with a bit of work & a set up. Cheers, B.
9.
Ouch....was it described like that in sale?!
No - funnily enough, the seller never mentioned it! B.
10. Bought a Status Groove bass through a postal deal & there's really dodgy-looking ding on the neck bolt area - it looks like someone's tried to shove a screwdriver through the finish. Here's a pic: - The neck join itself seems solid, but the damage looks like it's gone through the finish & into the wood (doesn't like there's crack into the bolt holes themselves though). Thing is, I really like the bass & it seems OK apart from that, so would like to hang on to it if it's not likely to be a serious problem. Is it something to worry about and/or is there a simple way to fix it (e.g. use glue to strengthen it). Cheers, B.
11. Always loved the bass playing on the Young Disciples album. It was a guy called Marc Nelson who played a violin bass (in videos, anyway...) - really simple lines, but totally fitted the songs & a great subby tone. Does anyone know what he did afterwards? I think he did some stuff with Paul Weller, but can't find much on him online... Cheers, B.
12. Sold Fede my Yamaha BEX - great guy to deal with. First time I'd done a bass deal internationally, but all went smoothly - cheers! B.
13. Bought a Spector Legend 4 from kets. Really smooth deal - good communication, quick delivery & a great bass. Cheers! B.
14. Hi - sent you a PM. Was wondering what the black thing above the front pickup is? Cheers, B.
15. Bought a 5 string Status Groove bass from John...then he bought it back from me! Great guy to deal with - a smooth pair of swift transactions - cheers! B.
16. Hi Conan - thanks for the offer, but I'm only really interested in a fretted bass at the mo... Cheers, B.
In case this deal doesn't work out, would you be interested in a fretless at all?
17. Replied - now on hold. Cheers, B.
PM'd. I'll have this baby back please, really miss the neck profile.
18. Hi - always wanted a Status Groove bass & bought this 5 string from oldslapper through the forum over the festive season, but I'm really a 4 string player, so looking to move it on. For anyone who's not familiar with the Groove, I'd describe it as the Status take on a Stingray - the huge Trimax bridge pickup is pretty powerful & coupled with a bass/treble active EQ you can wind in a good range of tones. I've restrung it with Stainless Steel Elites (40-125) this week has a pretty comfortable medium action - think if I was keeping it I'd take it for a pro set up, as a tweak of the truss rod should allow the action to be lowered further (if that's your thing). I'd guess the bass is over 10 years old & has a few minor dinks here & there, but no major issues. Ideally I'd like to trade this for an active 4 string - my perfect trade would be a straight swap for a 4 string Groove, but there aren't many about so let me know what you have & we'll take it from there (with some cash either way for the right bass). Alternatively, I'd sell it on - I paid £350 posted for it, but would do it cheaper for a face to face deal (I'm based in Newcastle upon Tyne). Here are some pics: - Cheers, B.
19. On hold awaiting payment etc. Cheers, B.
20. Hi - I've finally managed to find enough packing materials to send this, so I'll do it for £125 posted in the UK (Parcelforce 48). I've had several people asking about posting this (both on the thread & via PMs), so to make it fair, I'll sell it to the first person to reply on the thread that they want it. We can sort out payment etc. via PMs from there - if we could do a swift PayPal deal then I should be able to send this at the end of the coming week on my day off... Cheers, B.
21.
Its a pain in the arse now though as sellers can only leave positive feedback... What use is that?
In my experience, buyers will have their negative feedback removed if it offends a high-volume power seller - read my post here for details. Not sure whether I'd trust eBay again after this - they didn't respond to me after I asked for more information on why my feedback was removed... Cheers, B.
22. Nothing ever came back from eBay about this (they never responded to my request for more information on why my feedback was removed), so as promised I'll name the seller - it was Purple Turtle Trading in Stockport. Has anyone ever had any dealings with them? B.
23. Hi tracktionmonkey - I still have the blue one. Unfortunately I haven't managed to track down any packaging that would allow me to post the bass with confidence - as it's a semi-acoustic with an angled headstock I wouldn't want to risk it unless it was securely packed. Cheers, B.
Hi.] Nice looking bass. Did it go yet? ANy late possibility of posting this?!? But, wait for it...I'm in Berlin, Germany. Anyhow, all the best.
24. Has anyone tried Status Hotwire flats? I'm looking for a set for a 5 string & they're much cheaper than the likes of Thomastic/La Bella etc. - was wondering if they were any good? Cheers, B.
25. Sold John my Yamaha BEX-4 this afternoon. Swift, straightforward transaction & a great guy to deal with - glad it's gone to a good home. Cheers! B.
