  1. can't see the weight anywhere. Remember folks, it's only a bargain if you really need it anyway
  2. sounds like the Hondo I've still got, it's a decent bass, good pickups, like you say worth about £50 on ebay, but it's sounds so much better then that, (I can get nearer to the Stranglers bass sound with it that than my Fender P) which is why I've kept it, heavy though, I assume because of the ply body. I also had a Columbus P copy, someone had stripped the paint off it, not a good idea with a ply body 😂, I bought it because it was cheap and a lefty, it didn't sound or play that badly, but I soon moved it on
  3. I've got the cheaper one prefer the fact that the volume controls are on on the top, personal preference I guess. Slightly off topic but I recently replaced my headphones from Sennheiser HD280 pro's (not cheap) to audio-technica WS1100's, the difference in quality of the bass is amazing and for playing bass through they are truly astonishing, not cheap (I paid £190) and hard to come by but IMO well worth it
  4. Jazz double bass player (forgotten his name) when asked what scale he used replied "I just play the root note first then any old bollocks after that"
  5. Lemmy to the sound man "Can you hear that horrible noise from my monitor?" "No" said the sound man, Lemmy "Neither can I, turn the fcuker up"
  6. I used to be as flat as a fart when singing, but with practice, singing to myself with headphones on and recording the result I've got to a level where, although not brilliant is acceptable, confidence is a factor, if you think you're a crap singer you will be, if you can tell when a singer is out of tune (or an instrument) you're not tone deaf
  7. maybe I'm being incredible thick but I always thought that power chords were partial barre chords, like Johnny Ramone Steve Jones, Billy Joe Armstrong etc
  8. they do it so that can boast to their 'friends' on Facebook and the like, what a great time they've had, thinking they're interested, well they're not, like other peoples holiday snaps, boring, they'd have a lot better time if they just watched the gig
  9. I think there's an interview with Johnny Ramone somewhere where he says 20 minutes is enough for unknown originals bands, do your best songs then get off before the audience gets bored, I do agree with him
  10. I prefer standing at gigs, but I'm quite tall, 6 feet, but my partner is only a bout 5 5 someone tall always stands in front of her, although she prefers standing it puts her off, tbh I don't enjoy big gigs these days, Rock City is about as big as I want it to be (we've found a spot where there's a step to stand on), big festivals like Glastonbury and Stadium gigs hold no interest to me whatsoever I enjoy seeing a covers band in the local pub as much as anything
  11. quite a few Bob Dylan songs, All along the Watchtower, If You Gotta Go Now, Mighty Quin, Mr Tambourine Man, probably be some more, Oh yes, the covers are always better than Bob's originals 😂
  12. there you go https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363444685395?hash=item549efdca53:g:OGgAAOSwezRg06C8
  13. once saw an obviously competent bass player, he was part of the band on a cruise ship, he played slap all over the verse of Alright Now, I'm still traumatised, so yes, taste is very important and can't be taught or learnt
  14. not for better players than me but, luminous tape stuck to the neck where the spots go so you can see them at dark gigs
  15. yes, see what you mean with Surrender, one of my justifications for nicking idea's when writing a song is they probably stole from someone else 😃
  16. tenuous link I'd say, now Duchess and the Manics Tolerate is another story altogether.
  17. doesn't surprise me, each to their own eh? I can think of a Jazz song I like if take 5 counts 😊
  18. well that is the title of the thread, if it helps I have a friend who also doesn't like the Beatles, when pressed he admitted he quite liked Only a Northern Song 😊
  19. but you must surely you must like ONE song of theirs 😊
  20. The Ramones do seem like that, but it's all about the melody line and Joey's voice with them, IMO they do pull off the very hard trick of making something very simple, special, it's indefinable, if it was definable everyone would be able to do it
  21. I take a spare bass and an amp (if we're the only band on) to gigs, not practice, in the back of my mind we could use it as a PA amp in an emergency, once the guitarists amp packed up (or so he thought, in the end it was just power light bulb that had blown 😂), he had to use my spare, not ideal but got him through the gig. We were on a multi band gig once, 30 minute sets, the bass player in one of the other bands broke a string, refused the offer of another bass, spent 5 or 6 minutes replacing it, completely ruined the momentum of the set
  22. the first mistake does sound really odd, the second one sounds good, which is probably what they thought
  23. I'm a big fan of the Beatles but can't fault you on that comment Pink Floyd - Wish You were here Chis De Burgh - A Spaceman Came Travelling Blur - Song 2 Elton John - Rocket Man Stevie Wonder - Signed Sealed Delivered I'm Yours Queen - Sheer Heart Attack Radiohead -Creep Ronan Keating - When You Say Nothing at all (strangely enough, my partner doesn't like it 😂) Eric Clapton (apart from Cream) - Layla Genesis - You Know What I Like ELP - Fanfare For the Common Man
  24. you've got to admire the guy for attempting postage even at £50 😂
  25. we had our first full pub set gig last Sunday for 15 months, with a newish guitarist after a couple of crash rehearsals, bit ropey, but as Basil would say "I think we got away with it"
