probably for the best, but you could use a bass amp (you may have another?) with a cheap distortion pedal, I sometimes even use my Zoom B1on
-
out guitarist gets a better distorted sound out of his 50 watt Marshall valvestate than he does out of his all valve Marshall

Legalities of being in a covers band…
PaulWarning replied to Booooooom's topic in General Discussion
you tube have dealt differently with copywrite issues on covers of songs I've put on there, they either don't pick them up, or the original songwriter isn't bothered, Daydream Believer was taken down (with a warning), when I uploaded a version of Mrs Robinson, it said they'd detected that the song was a cover and we wouldn't get any royalties for it, a couple of other covers I uploaded at the same time went through with no problems, go figure -
Songs you always wanted to play but never did...

we did another Rock and Roll Christmas a few times, went down ok, not sure who realised it was a GG song though 😂 -

that's what I understood, the venue buys a PRS license and that's it, haven't a clue how the PRS distribute the monies, only once have we've been asked for our set list for PRS purposes -
bugger, I try and be careful, about upsetting the grammar Nazis 😃 fixed anyway 😂

we've been asked on a handful of occasions in about 600 gigs to have equipment PAT'd and once to have personnel liability insurance, not once have we been asked for proof it's been done. -
I wouldn't know tbh, what I do know is I really enjoy a pint of Rockin' Robin and Olde Trip, I don't enjoy Greene King's ales like IPA and Abbotts, they have a funny taste to them YMMV
-
well that's my theory, it's very similar ( the same IMO) to Olde Trip, made for the Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem when it was owned by Kimberly Brewery (Hardy Hansons), more info on this fascinating pub and a photo of the Olde Trip beer pump for bass players not familiar with Nottingham's most famous drinking establishment. https://thirdeyetraveller.com/ye-olde-trip-to-jerusalem-england-oldest-inn/

Rockin' Rudolf is a very pleasant festive offering from Greene King, I don't normally like their beers but this one is Kimberly Ales recipe (I think) a local Nottingham Brewery they took over (closed down) a few years ago

Don't you just hate it when a cack handed player has to use a right handed guitar 😂
-
I get fret buzz when I put new strings on, they soon bed in, I use DR neon's and it really shows up how the strings wear when they touch the frets, like a little groove
-
tricky, we've had a few girlfriends turn up for practice sessions in the early days of a relationship, however, they soon get bored and stop coming to rehearsals, if they started expressing an opinion it's a different ball game though
-
perhaps as well he didn't, they may not have lasted 10 years if he had, many a band has broken up because of too many opinions, or musical differences as it's called

Home practice using an audio interface and maybe some plugins?
PaulWarning replied to chyc's topic in Effects
I use a Behringer UM2 plugged into my laptop, I used to use a Behringer BDI21 to spice things up a bit, but since I bought a pair of audio technica WS1100 headphones (rare and not cheap) I don't need to -
I'm the only member of the band that could be arsed to join the PRS, so I credit all the songs to me, what little royalties we actually make I share with the rest of the band. I write most of the songs, but everybody usually has some input
-
I replaced my ageing Sennheiser HD280pro's with audio-technica ATH-WS1100's, bit over budget but the difference in the bass response is breath taking. I use my headphones for practice a lot with the Sennheiser's I always struggled to get decent bass even with effects pedals, but the Audio Technica's sound great plugged straight in to my laptop via a Behringer UM2 interface

How many extra drinks does a pub need to sell to cover a £250 band?

sure it's not cola from a dispenser? must be a close run thing -

how much a landlord makes drinks is dependant on what deal they're on as regards leasing, those that actually own the building can probably get beer for not much over £1 a pint, that's how the much maligned Mr Wetherspoon does it, those who are tied to a pub company find it very difficult, of course most of them get a bit back with an entertainment allowance. We play regularly at a pub, or did before Covid, that didn't have nearly enough people in it to buy the extra drinks to pay our fee, kept getting asked back because the landlady liked us and she didn't foot the bill -
I think he feeds into the narrative that the little bloke can improve a big manufacturers product, who've spent a lot of money on R and D btw. In most cases they can't
-
I would think so, the Chequers, opposite the Hop Pole
-
yes, to be fair the landlord was very apologetic
-
well that was a first, playing a local pub, the place rammed, the band were rocking, everybody singing along, just before the break a fight broke out, nothing really nasty, just half a dozen drunks, PC Plod were called, 4 cars turned up with 8 police, arrested 2 of them and said we couldn't carry n with the gig!
