  1. I use my Zoom B1on with the BA Metal patch, I think I get pretty close, P bass with DR neon strings, others may disagree, can't comment on flats, I've never used them
  2. I spent years trying to improve my HiFi, eventually I decided it doesn't make a bad song better no matter how good it sounds, the situation you're listening in makes a far bigger impact, ( like down the pub in good company on a crappy juke box, the backing track to an advert or TV program, or even driving the car). I use ad based Spotify, sounds fine to me, mind you, I am a bit deaf these days. Which brings me back to the Revolver remix, yes it sounds better, but once the novelty of trying to decide if you can hear something that you couldn't before wears off you're back to listening to a great album, would I shell out to buy it? no.
  3. the better arms had a counter weight, the weight on the stylus should be around 2 grams if my memory serves me right
  4. the Revolver remix and additional tracks are now on Spotify, non Beatle fans look away now 😀
  5. I've just moved onto to thinner picks, I used to use 1mm on bass, have gone down to ..60mm nylon Dunlops, and for acoustic guitar down from .60mm to .46mm, less strain on the old thumb joint 😊
  6. cheers, heavy cabs are not easy to shift these days, I paid £85 for it but that included postage, it's been sitting in the spare bedroom for a few years now, can't see me using it again, it's also on FB (see my recent Scam thread), someone is supposed to be coming round tomorrow morning, cash in hand. Just tried it out, it does sound good, shame its on the heavy side
  7. that does sound plausible, after all they don't really want the item, so there's no point in obtaining it from you, they'd have the hassle of selling it on to get any money out of the deal
  8. I've had a Zoom B1on for about 5 years now, use it at all my gigs and practices, no issues at all
  9. Yes I knew it was a scam, like you say, couriers don't hand over cash, just wondered how it worked
  10. Trace Elliot 1153 vinyl covered, plywood cab, the original 200 watt speaker has been replaced by a 300 watt Trace Elliot Celestion speaker, great sounding cab and relatively compact. 62H x 48W x 33D cm, Weight 27Kg, I got this cab from @geoff90guitar about 5 years ago, I've gone lightweght Cash on collection please, Nottingham/ Derby area
  11. I've got an item on FB marketplace, someone has been in touch offering to collect the item using a DPD, they will give me the cash on collection, how does this scam work?
  12. punks not dead, but a lot of the original punks are heading that way, The Butlins Alternative (Punk) Festival has been scrapped due to poor numbers
  13. Took my Hondo Professional 2 to practice last night and it reminded me what a lovely neck it's got, IMO, slim (38mm at the nut) but chunky, as it's very heavy, being a plywood body, and like @Marvin's Warwick the first fret is a stretch the way it hangs on the strap it got me thinking what other P basses have a similar neck, so I Googled it and this thread came up
  14. Nah, this one is the only one you need bother with 😀
  15. actually that is a passable impersonation of Johnny Cash
  16. only a matter of time before Capt Kirk made an appearance, he may not be a competent musician, but the band and producers were, so I thought I'd get in first
  17. I've had various headphones including the Sennheiser HD280's, for bass response nothing has got close to the Audio Technica ATH-WS110, I practice through my lap top, to play along to tracks, and it sounds great
  18. IMO they went downhill after that (and JJ's bass tone), on the subject of JJ's bass tone, do we really think they mic'd up a ripped speaker cone when they recorded them?
  19. Yep, still got his voice, shame I've never liked anything he's done
  20. Maybe that's because old people like me aren't really interested in new music, and young people aren't interested in old farts like Macca, we just want music that reminds us of our youth, ymmv
  21. depends how much you like the artist I suppose, our old guitarist used to say "Punters don't hear what you're playing, they hear what's in there head" not always true but I knew what he meant, I think Elton John was right to retire (if he has), but then I don't like him very much, I did think Macca should have retired but his Glastonbury set changed my mind, his voice is not the same as it was and he got a lot of help from the backing singers but it was very enjoyable all the same. The Stones are a funny one, Jagger's voice still seems to be on the money but I don't think Keef can play guitar very much any more, not surprising when you look at the state of his finger joints but I don't think many of their fans think they should pack it in. The bottom line is, if people still want to go and see them why not carry on? if people don't, don't go, simple really
  22. blurb from the link above All the new Revolver releases feature the album’s new stereo mix, sourced directly from the original four-track master tapes. The audio is brought forth in stunning clarity with the help of cutting edge de-mixing technology developed by the award-winning sound team led by Emile de la Rey at Peter Jackson’s WingNut Films Productions Ltd. On another note, Revolver contains my favourite Beatles track (and John Peel's) 'And Your Bird Can Sing' so I will be looking forward to hearing that
  23. Must admit I was sceptical about this, are there going to be endless remixes every time technology moves on a bit? but having listened to it there is obviously a significant improvement. One thing has always struck me about remixes in general, the bass is always more prominent, I'm guessing because originally it couldn't be too loud because of the limitations of vinyl, but that is not the case with the improvement over the 2015 remix of this track. I won't have to buy it though, thanks to spotify, having got the original LP I think I've paid my bit to the Beatles coffers
  24. I use a USA precision and have got Vintage V4 for practice and a back up, aside from some frets not rolled off properly on the dusty end underside, blind fold me and I wouldn't be able to tell one from the other
  25. a pro player will sound good using almost any gear, just as a poor player will sound rubbish not matter how expensive their gear is
