  1. here's me thinking its an acronym 😁
  2. I have my gain on full, even with no pedals in the loop (a passive precision), there's a Trace at the rehearsal studios we use, I always turn the gain up to full, when I return the following week it's down to about half, I do wonder what basses the others are using
  3. this is true, I've got 2 Trace heads one is 150 watt the other 200 watt, both weigh in at 13 kg an easy one handed lift, and plenty loud enough
  4. me and the singer own the PA, a Yamaha EMX 512sc Wharfdale 15" Titans, no name monitors, it's at least 10 years old now, but does the job, vocals and bass drum, occasionally guitar, must have done about 500 gigs with it. The singer never helps with the setting up, just gives me a filthy look when we get feedback. He started a new side project band and wanted me to do the PA said he'd give me £20 a gig, err thanks but no thanks but said I'd no objections to him borrowing it, did one gig which apparently was a disaster sound wise then he persuaded the new band to buy a new PA (I think so he wouldn't have to lug around the old one on his own), anyway it is and Alto powered speaker system I think it was about £650, no idea whether it's any good, they did one gig with it then the lockdown kicked in
  5. the power rating is normal scribbled on the back by hand, fades with time, the only way I can read mine is with a magnifying glass and a strong light, it says AH150, I think 😀
  6. new on sky arts tonight 9pm "Mavericks, the Legendry Promotors of Rock" might be worth a look
  7. those posts are wrong, you'll risk damaging the amp
  8. I think the Trace speaker in your combo is 8 ohms (might be worth checking), so the extension speaker should be 8 ohms then you'll have a 4 ohmn load, which will give you full output from the amp
  9. yes, that's correct, I did this when I had a Trace Combo
  10. Marc Bolan turned crimes against rhymes into an art form, the list is endless "I've got a Rolls Royce because it's good for my voice" for some reason they seemed to work though or maybe we just got used to them
  11. alternatively, have you ever been to a great gig with rubbish sound? but yes a rubbish band can make the sound bad
  12. WD 40 is a safe option, our guitarist used nail varnish remover on his nearly new Gibson, it didn't end well 😂
  13. was it this one? shame the vocals are slightly out of sync almost all the live shows I've been disappointed in have been caused by a crap sound, I just stand there fuming, the evening ruined by a sound guy that hasn't got a clue about the type of sound the band needs, or is deafer than I am
  14. one that sets my teeth on edge is Macca's She's A Woman My love don't give me presents I know that she's no peasant Not keen on Mr Rotten's effort either I am the antichrist I am an anarchist ( mispronounced to make it rhyme) TBF it must have annoyed the hell out of him to have thought up the great couplet only to find it doesn't quite rhyme 😃
  15. Steve White out of the Bootleg Beatles, originally played right handed but learnt to play left handed to be more like Macca, https://www.chichester.co.uk/arts-and-culture/bootleg-beatles-head-portsmouth-and-guildford-834558
  16. just a thought, can you buy one from Thomann's and get it delivered to Africa?
  17. I've just bought a pair of Audio Technica WS1100is, because I've got big ears with behind the behind the ear hearing aids and they completely cover them, not cheap at £190 but the best bass I've heard from headphones
  18. must admit I've never heard of him being gittish, not saying he isn't, any examples? my partners ex husband used to work at a TV studio and he said the same of Des O'Conner lovely bloke when the cameras were on, and an ar5ehole when they weren't
  19. so what you mean is, you wouldn't miss a single one of his songs, which is fair enough, not sure you're qualified to speak for the whole world
  20. yes it's a long haul, I'm halfway through episode 2, not so good ,they've just reached the cheesy cowboy films ☹️, I've watched the later episodes and some of them are really good
  21. just starting a rerun on PBS America, freeview channel 84, Ken Burn's marathon history of Country Music, I'm not a massive fan of country but I've found it really interesting
  22. on BBC 2 in about an hour a Dave Grohl doc and a Foo Fighters gig
  23. I think most people think their era of music is the best, that is when they were teenagers and in their early 20's, usually, The Beatles are the exception to this rule more than most, but it does point to the general age on this forum that there are so many Beatle threads, and that some seem to think that Drake recorded my boomarang won't come back 🤣
