Take a look at the string spacing (bridge). 17 mm is the most common, but there is everything from at least 14 to 21.5 mm. Without a test drive I would not buy any of those basses you mentioned. I did a test at a shop and tried maybe 6 different 5-string Laklands and all sounded and felt different. Not one was built for me, but two were pretty good - and different to each other. Especially the American made was not for me.

Oh dear. I am just using Taylor's FMeron. But if in need, Misa TriBass + Novation BassStation can put out some fun stuff. Not yet on a gig, though.

Lost volume on my Fender P bass (photos which may/may not help!)

There is "high quality" and a carbon track pot in the same sentence. Funny. You want quality, buy a conductive plastic or cermet track pot. Brands to look for: Bourns, Vishay... -
Our band pianist bought a Nord Stage III for something like £2500 - £3000. It will last for the next 7 - 10 years. During the same time I will probably buy strings for the same amount, so is it that bad? It sounds good and has literally new bells and whistles that he loves to search and try. More sounds, more fun.

I have been considering to buy a JE preamp. Now I like to have a blend (yes, two pickups), and I like humbuckers. Which preamp would be your suggestion to my use? That flat response might be my preference.

Although there are passive modes in some A/P basses, the circuit is always on when the plug is in the jack. The only exception I am aware of may be the Ex-Factor that had a rotary switch for OFF - Standby - ON, but did it shut the battery off while the cable was plugged, I do not recall. Owners of the Kubicki might be able to clarify this.

Nice colour including fretboards but for me it is just useless.
-
The first question is why you have to buy another? Do you have any idea? What is wrong with the current instrument? Is it too light or too heavy? Colour? Sound options? If you do not do your homework, you will be here after some time and ask help for one more bass. It is not wrong at all, but you do not seem to have the faintest idea of what is wrong, although something is not right. If you are not able to specify the issues, your only way is to do lots of test drives. Human nature is not good in absolute values, as our senses are made for comparing stuff.

Hofner and Gretsch have one issue in common: the upper horn is so short (the strap connects at around 15th fret). The reach to half and first position is further away than with Talman (strap @ 12th fret).

Are those two body tips à la Status at the bridge side for protecting the tuning system? The length of the body in both ends of it is related to the overall balance. As the instrument is certainly light in weight, I don't see the tips so important if the position is functioning well.

Stand corrected. Another neckthrough, please.

Mr. May will certainly build you another neck. Please do not ruin that piece of ebony! Unlined!

Does your band use a sub-woofer as part of your PA?
itu replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
Our PRX735 pair is sub enough: peak SPL 136 dB, frequency response (+/-3 dB) starts from 42 Hz. A sub is common in systems that are small, but then there is more stuff to carry and mix. JBLs are not small, but the sound isn't small either. -
I am sorry that my language is not up to yours. I meant, that sometimes work may be hard and not so fun, but the results are just like you pointed out: good music. If the meeting and working with other band members is not social, then what is? I just do not get your exact point, so sorry.
-
Very good list, but I see the rehearsals also as a social event. It is just like at work (and yes, it is work): keep your mates happy and everything goes well. The productivity point of view is always there, but the overall feeling needs to be reasonable. It does not have to be fun always, but everyone can give their best possible output. And that's what I call music.

We've had a steady day - Thursday at 19oo - when we play together. There is no hassle in trying to find some time to play. It is Thursday. Period. If you can not get there this time it is OK. But no endless threads in email or wassup, just one day and one time. This has worked for 31 years. Same place, same time. No rehearsals in the middle of the summer, but +40 meetings a year. Another band that tries to play together has LOTS of problems trying to meet once a month. Is it Monday or Saturday? Yes! So which week? Or dear...

Please try to clean and oil the pots. It usually works, so plenty of cleaner - and I mean plenty, let dry a bit and then oil the track. Use spray, not 10W-40...
-
There's another issue: those pots have long shafts. May take some time to find similar.
-
But the big issue is, that a bass does not fit in the top compartment. That bxxxxy g-word thing fits. Life is not fair...

Limahl was singing certain movie soundtrack in 1984. Might suit this build?

M80 is a fine soft bag, but as its name implies, it is soft. I was in Zürich earlier this year and this is how the hard case looked like after the trip. The airline company bought the case. The case was made to the bass, shapes and all, and the instrument survived. Case did not. (Actually the case looks quite good in this pic, but in real life it was hard to open and close the thing. Aluminum was seriously bent, feet were gone, and hard plastic parts were all over.)

This tension thing is related to the strings. It is up to you to decide the string thickness that affects the tension. IF the short scale bass has similar strings as her taller sister, the tension is lower on a shorter scale. But the string choice is up to you. This may help while finding a suitable set. http://www.daddario.com/upload/tension_chart_13934.pdf

45 kHz is related to that power section. The voltage is regulated by a switcher (voltage pump) that makes the audible noise. When the frequency is far over the audible band (20 kHz), it just vanishes from your attention. It is there but you can not hear it. I suppose that other parts in the signal chain will also limit the tweeting.
