  2. That’s a common failing of the ABS plastic case from Rickenbacker. It’s a poor design. Rickysounds sells a repair kit that will do the job. If you are halfway competent at DIY I suggest you study the Rickysound kit and direct source the components. Probably cheaper.
  3. Only two? 😊
  4. My early 70’s Fender basses: ‘71 Jazz and ‘73 Fretless P
  5. Thanks for this. I really enjoyed the podcast. Gail comes across as a “feet on the ground” musician, despite having a really impressive CV.
  6. I was thinking about doing the same thing but with a polyester coating (as I believe was standard on Pedulla Buzz fretless basses). In the end I didn’t go for it and quite like the stock bass sound with Ground-wound strings.
  7. He was one of the better DJ’s from my younger years. He went up in my estimation when he declared on air that the Bay City Rollers were rubbish. https://jive95.com/johnnie_walker_interview_07.htm
  8. I’ve bought plenty of instruments from Japan. Never had a problem. Shipping to Europe can pricey, but EMS is OK as a slightly cheaper and slower option.
  9. Great choice……..well done! When you change the control knobs please take special care with those that have a centre detent. To retain the centre detent “feel” of the Musicman potentiometers you need always to remove and replace the control knobs when the pot is at centre detent. If you don’t, you won’t have a centre detent anymore. Ask me how I know.
  10. I'm curious and interested in your opinions and set up when you get it. Congrats! I am exploring a variable pedal preamp set up with a small power amp for a few of the small gigs we do. The Baby Sumo is a contender. Others include a Quilter or HB Bass Block in a similar - but not pedal-based - approach. I've been down the HX Stomp rabbit hole and what was on offer was just too much for my needs. At least I now know that!
  11. Love it!!!
  12. My first thought was a ESP Bottom Bump………but the upper horn contour isn’t quite correct. i’m also thinking it might be from Ibanez, but can’t for the life of me give a model suggestion.
  13. Best bang-for-buck in my opinion is a USA Stingray Sub from the early/mid 2000’s. If you want the original 2 band preamp, don't mind the slab body, and a bass that will survive the knocks and dings of pub gigs, then this would be my choice.
  14. Four bolt neck plate?
  15. Gorgeous! I must stop looking, before I weaken!
  16. Best : Laney Digbeth Preamp. Relatively inexpensive and nicely toned for my current needs. A useful addition. Runner up : Lakland Shoreline SL44-94 fretless. Japanese version of the Skyline 44-02. Difficult to find as an original fretless in my limited experience. Worst: Over-priced stuff with a Fender logo.
  17. Luminlay side dots is a small step in the right direction, I’d say. The overall package is pricey though!
  18. I’ve found freshly used tea-bags surprisingly effective on bare wood areas, although I’m no expert on relic-ing.
  19. This is a conundrum for Fender. When they stray even a little from the familiar P and J basses the “innovative” instruments seem to not sell very well. Take the Dimension - not a bad bass, which was more evolution than revolution………but it tanked. I’ll be intrigued what they end up putting out as “innovative”
  20. I have a Goodfellow bass still with original flat wound strings. The bass is from around 1986, if I recall correctly. I don't play it often but the strings are nicely broken in (i.e. dead as a dodo).
  21. I think they are made by Mayones in Poland. The Fame-branded instruments are a single dealer offering - available from Music Store Professional in Germany. I don’t have one, but Mayones is a well regarded boutique builder.
  22. Finally joined the club! ………….and very happy with the result. It took the best part of three years to finish, regrettably. Immediate post-Covid supply issues of some parts slowed down the start and, as well as other projects, this meant I could only get round to the build this past summer.
  23. I won the lottery with Mrs BlueMoon……… enough said! Nice topic to post about……thank you @ossyrocks
  24. Great advice above. Unless you are sure that the neck will never come off again, the next time it does……..likely the same thing will happen! So, I’d advise as a parallel action, to sand the tight fitting neck and address the cause of the issue as well.
  25. Same here (2 x 45 min is typical in our cover band).
