  1. I have a Crown xls power amp with selectable input sensitivity. I regularly use it with my Avalon U5 preamp. Sounds great.
  2. I have both and like them equally. It just depends on what particular sound I’m after either recording or at a gig. Frankly, at a gig most folks can’t tell the difference so then it comes down to body shape for me. I prefer the P body shape.
  3. Pink!
  4. For those bass manufacturers who don’t already……………. Install Luminlay (glow in the dark) side markers in the neck of the instrument, especially fretless.
  5. G&L : lose the “batwing/bottle opener” headstock on all models.
  6. Question: does the bass work when switched to passive or is it the same response in both active and passive modes via the slider switch?
  7. Do you leave the cable in the jack socket when you finish playing? That will run down the battery. When you have changed to a fresh (fully charged) battery does the bass play/sound normal, at least initially? It could be a bunch of things, but most are likely to be simple fixes. First suggestion is to use another cable if you have one. Then it’s time to take a look inside the control cavity of the bass in question. I am not familiar with the model you describe, but I’m sure somebody who is will be along soon to help you out. Report back with any findings.
  8. I know that insurance will likely cover some of this…….but, it is a real shock that a reputable store like Station Music has become a victim. A big shout-out to those guys who are warning the bass community by advertising this on the various internet auction sites and bass forums (fora?).
  9. I’ve bought a bunch of stuff from them. No problems in the transactions that I’ve had. They are quick and gave realistic answers. I am not an Italian-speaker, but we always got there. Hope this helps.
  10. Grolsch beer bottle washers are great to use in exactly this ^^^ way. And the beer is pretty good as well!
  11. If it were mine, I wouldn’t do it. I’d get another fretted bass or compatible fretted neck. Your decision though!
  12. This looks a unique Atelier Z bass. I like it!
  13. Oh my!!! That is beautiful.........just beautiful!
  14. Welcome back @BassAdder60
  15. Great job. The sense of achievement from a self-build must be a great motivator for future projects! Well done!
  16. There is something elegantly simple about a 3TS Precision with a tort scratch-plate. I’ve been on a long and winding bass journey over the years. I really enjoyed the diversity of other types of basses (including some active ones), but I keep coming back to where I started. You can’t beat it.
  17. I’ve been very impressed by the Yamaha TRB5ii - both fretted and Fretless. Great value for money and Japanese quality. IMO, they are easily as good as the average modern Fender.
  18. Don’t rule out a cheaper alternative. I’ve been well impressed with the overall dynamics of a pair of Sony MDR 7506 that you can get for around €100. I use them to listen to FLAC quality audio files.
  19. Try flats! They last forever and the tone (if it’s for you) will not change much over the years.
  20. I use a felt pick for my Höfner violin bass, much like that other guy who’s been around for a while.
  21. It just goes to show that reputation and reality can sometimes be at odds! Good score on your £700 cracker!
  22. Looks like a nice bass with character and mojo. Well done! Enjoy it
  23. I was going to add a set to a Thomann order, since I’m a tight-wad. Still need to pull the trigger on the main item though.
  24. Nice bass. Japanese quality and a great relic job. I have a Buzz Hornet built by the same guy who did this relic job. It’s a great “players” bass, so I would expect this one to be very nice as well. GLWTS.
