Nice looking bass. Shame about the buckle rash that’ll be on the back after playing in that stage outfit!
-
This ^^^^^^. I have also had several very positive interactions with Hipshot. Very responsive, technical focus.

Seems like as many do as those that don’t. Getting hold of a stable one could be a bit of a crap-shoot.

I think he waxes the final relic’d neck. In my experience it is smooth, not sticky and not overtly shiny. It is obviously not as smooth as MM, G&L and others of that ilk though.

I had a Stingray Classic from 2006 where the neck was a real swine with changing weather conditions. It wasn't a fancy neck with heavy figuring but, boy, I had to adjust it quite often to maintain it top playing condition. As others have said, some instruments can stay unaffected in conditions where some others are all over the place.

Does the Rolls unit have a limiter to prevent ear damage from inadvertent mic feedback etc.? I would always want some kind of limiter (ideally brickwall) in any in-ear device. Just curious.

NS CRM-4 Radius headless bass. It also involved changing the radius of the fingerboard.

I just had a 24 fret bass done on this side of the channel. Quotes were between €250 to €350. The luthier I selected (the higher price) is a renowned guitar tech for international bands.

Sod’s Law… Dream bass is never going to appear!
BlueMoon replied to bassatnight's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, been there a couple of times over the years. Feel your pain. Over time, however, my wait for whatever dream bass(es) has often changed/morphed into something else. GAS didn’t go away, just re-focused on something else. Strange how we convince ourselves that nothing else will do……….wait up, maybe this or that will do or is, in fact, better. -
Don’t know about the cabinet in question, but I believe Eden was bought from Marshall by Gear4Music for a pound or something silly like that.

Jazzbass, under £400...the hard bit - under 8.5lbs!

Secondhand Fender Aerodyne Jazz? Made of basswood, so very light. Most are PJ configuration though. Just a thought. -
This has also been my experience. The more times you do it the less of an issue you think it is. In reality, it isn’t an issue.
-
I have the same issue with the P Audio horn being out of stock, seemingly everywhere. @chyc which horn did you eventually use? Nice work overall and thanks for sharing your experiences.

Even within the population of flats there is a world of difference in the degree of zing (or lack of) among those on the market. Personally, I prefer GHS Precision flats on my P bass. I haven’t used vaseline or creams on flats, preferring to wear them in naturally.

^^^ this. It would be very unusual for a metallic finish to not have a clear coat as the finish coat. In which case, careful use of mild auto polishing products as mentioned by others should be fine.

Truss rod, bridge saddles typically addressed first. Then, if not low enough for your personal taste check the depth of the nut slots and whether you need to shim the neck (assuming the instrument is a bolt-on neck). As to your question about typical measurement for action, that will be a personal preference. Start with the manufacturers’ recommendations and go from there. Hope this helps, but shoot with questions if you have them.

Going from say a P bass to a Höfner violin bass can require a quick adjustment regarding string spacing and scale……..but no big deal in my personal experience.

Sad news. John Paul Jones will be gutted!

I make the analogy of playing fretless or fretted the same as driving a vehicle with automatic transmission or with manual transmission. Both are out there and I know which I prefer personally. I drive a manual car and learned double bass. More control, more work, but once it becomes second nature it becomes just that, second nature. Enjoy whatever you prefer!

Those are the best words !! Sincere best wishes for a speedy recovery @Telebass!

I have a Blade B2 Tetra from mid 2000s, Japanese made. I think the scale is 34”. The preamp and pups had been swapped when I bought it. Subsequently, I installed Sadowsky pups and preamp. The bass is now rock solid and is a nice player. I particularly like the little design features. For example, mine has the Musicman-style truss rod wheel under a stylish cover with the Levinson brand on it. Neat.
