Hi Alz, that's a really nice looking bass! As for your comment of being in awe, graphite necks have a habit of doing that to you! Yes, there're times when a wooden neck is nice, but graphite just seems to have more growl and punch than anything else! Congrats!
I am seriously gassin' for a Status. I love the shape of the King Bass, that carved top is amazing. I have a Series II replica, that I had built by Keith Bennion of KGB Music in 1986. At the time Rob Green didn't offer his basses in left handed options, so I had the next best thing I could think of. I'll start a thread in Gear Porn, to show some pics. Sorry to Hijack this thread, just got carried away.

Welcome to Basschat, home for the twisted, gassed-up, always on the look out for something different, insane bassist. That's a nice Modulus you have there, if you don't mind, how much did you get it for? Steve.

+2 for the ACG preamps. The ACG 02 EQ would be great for your Lakki but they take a bit of getting use to. But when you suss it, it's all gravy. Only problem you would have would be putting another hole in the scratch plate, so you might as well sell the Lakki, get a Jazz to see you through until your ACG is finished being built.
I would suggest extreme caution when dealing with Watford Valves. Dereck, the owner of Watford valves will give you the line about how he is a bass player himself and got so fed-up of seeing poor bass players being sold cheap valves that failed, that he was moved to set up Watford Valves. Dereck provided me with a set of 6 Harma 6550's that were meant to be ideal for Ampeg SVT's. When I took the amp to EMS, Southend, they laughed when I said I had Harmas - they had had so much trouble with these valves. After the third tube blew I gave up on his valves and got some Electro Harmonix from ebay at LESS than his valves. They've been in the amp for 6 months and sound oh so sweet. I suggest extreme caution because not only are Dereck's valves unreliable he also wriggles out of any kind of refunds - the problems I had with his valves are obviously not a one off and he has become very proficient in arranging his defense to any kind of complaint. Be warned and avoid at all costs - nasty bit of work. Sorry - I'm not usually so blunt - but you know life, generally most people are ok buy every now and then you come across a someone that is not and in this case his name is Dereck and he is the owner of Watford Valves.
Hi gareth I've just seen this and I am shocked that someone with such a high profile valve company didn't refund you for your blown valves. Can you tell me more? I had Harmas in my Ampeg SVP pre and they seemed fine. Steve.

Vey profesh', have you sold the rights to Ashdown for the design? What are the pedals?

Did Stingrays have 3 band eq back in 1986? The bass is an abomination.

3/10 cabs... any reason why nobody makes them?
steve-soar replied to ben_eat_pie's topic in Amps and Cabs
Hi Ben I've got 3 tens in my cab and a horn. It makes building a smaller cab easier and I think it sounds as good as a 4x10". -
I've got "Electric Wood".

Ibanez Blazer, probably late 70's, early 80's. I bought it in 1985 from Fusion Music in Birkenhead for £99. It was natural, maple neck, with a black scratch plate and heart shaped tuners. I resprayed it Sea Foam Green and later got Keith at KGB Music to respray it Pillar Box Red.... he charged me £25.
Yes it should be 4x10. That seller seems remarkably clueless for someone who seems to deal in band and studio gear. AFAIK the MAG series never had hybrid pre-amps. It's Ashdown's budget range and much of the cost saving compared to the ABMs was achieved by taking out all the bells and whistles.
No valves at all. The bell-end has probably seen the bulb behind the VU meter and thought it was a valve.

Making sense of the Marshall 3540, UPDATED!
steve-soar replied to Shockwave's topic in Amps and Cabs
Ok well the amp has arrived and it seems like Interparcel nearly destroyed it. One of the Rack ears are bent completely out whack and one of the power amps is screwed, its being repaired right now, Appears to be an open circuit, It doesant seem like one of the MOSFETS are dead which is damn good because MOSFETS are no longer sold new! Some of the resistors are giving me funny numbers. Plus the amp was horrible to get into, The screws are in all the wrong places if you know what i mean. Anyway, if i get the amp working, i have decided to just use my 8 OHM cabs for now and not rush into getting 4's The cabs will still run at about 160 watts each, Which considering each power amp runs at 200 anyway is not bad. The sound is earsplitting halfway up anyway! Rob.
That's sh*tty news, I take it that it was insured? -
Matt Garrison - how are his basses set up ?.
steve-soar replied to 6stringbassist's topic in Bass Guitars
I was lucky enough to see Matt play in London a week or so ago (I think anyway). He seems to really play quite hard, lots of chords and strums etc. I know he uses a 33" scale Fodera, so the string tension can't be too great, yet he manages to get such a great deep tone. There doesn't seem to be loads of fret noise, or buzzing which you'd expect if his action was low. So I was wondering about the set up of his bass, how high does he have the action ?. Anyone know ?.
Hi Kev it's a Fodera, so the neck will be amongst the very best. My KGB bass, is the best playing bass I have ever owned, the action is so low with no buzz and I think certain makers just have that magic touch when it comes to building necks. What strings does he use? I noticed you had rounds on your Modulus bass and your action was super low but it had some fret buzz, maybe he uses half rounds. Send him an email. Still loving the Berg cab and U5, cheers. Steve. -

I think you have found your sonic nirvana. So, when are you letting me have first dibs?
I think you misunderstood, when do I get first dibs on the amp? -
