Wow, Terry! Iheared just one of these cabs and it was amazing for such a little cab, two together, very nice. Terry's gear is prestine and looked after as if it were a Faberge egg and with covers, too! Total bargain. I'd love 'em but if I bought them, I'd be sleeping in Birkenhead Park for the rest of my natural, drinking Frosty Jack and remembering when I was married. Buy with confidence. Steve.
Thankyou! I must say, the picture does take 10lbs off the schroeder, its not quite as small as it looks! A good balance of size and volume for sure. Id like to see a 4x10 that can match it.
The shoulders tense and the eyebrows twitch of all 4x10" and 3x10" owners on Basschat.
Just wondering, it's a long shot, but would you by any chance trade that little big muff for a well used behringer bass overdrive pedal, behringer chromatic tuner pedal (almost new) and a master of puppets guitar tab book (good condish)? I need to get rid of them so if you want them let me know... (just so you know the tab book is £20 new, the OD is £15 new and the tuner is £20 new)
Fair swap. Bump for nice looking pedals.

Brilliant! I really like the versatility you have got there with the different cabs and a PJB Bass Buddy, saweeeeet. What amp are you using? Nice Tingray.

For f***s sake, will somebody in Derby buy this lads cab, 400w at 8 ohms, that's a good speaker in there. Take the Carlsbro badge off when you've bought it, if that's the problem. Ben, I can't see why your head won't work with this cab, you can run an 8 ohm cab with an amp that goes down to 2 ohms, in fact you could use 4 x 8 ohm cabs.

What amps have 'growl' or just, suited to heavy rock/metal situations?
It took me far too long to realise that the input gain control allows you to get the strongest, cleanest possible signal from your bass to the amp, while the master output volume control allows you to get the required level from your amp to your speakers. You're completely right that the numbers therefore refer to nothing at all.
+1. The front end of your amp is the most important, get the input set just right and all of your eq will work properly, then master volume for taste, f*** it, whack it up to 10!!!

Lovely bass Kev, I bet it looks even nicer in the flesh. What string are on it?
Morning, I can provide a glowing endorsement of the SVP Preamp this morning, having done my first two gigs with it over the weekend. Running straight to FOH it was absolutely awesome. It covered the subtle sections admirably (even without a compressor) and then tore the face off everything in the rockier stuff. It has the real growl of the SVT's that I love, and bit through two guitars, keyboards, synths, and the drummer. Never been happier with my live sound (apart from when I get my AB/Y switching sorted out and get my Eden Pre in there too!!)
Now, that sounds like a good plan.
Might be worth noting that you'll need to set and forget your bass onboard eq at soundcheck. If you go changing it by substantial amounts during the gig, the sound man will be playing catch up with you. Nice rig BTW. Very classy, I've played both components (albeit separately) and I'm sure you've managed to achieve a very warm, round and clean sound. But not too aggressive?
Hi Crazy, the type of music we play(think, Nick Cave, Julian Cope, Talking Heads-ish), means for the most part I can set it an leave it. Believe me, this rig can be very brutal if needs be.
Good grief. That's rather nice! I'm a mite confused, though! The Avalon is a pre-amp, right? Is the cab "active"? There's a big heat sink and a power switch on the back... If so, is mains power delivered to it by that (Blue) Speakon-like plug instead of an IEC 1 (kettle) lead? Or is there just a BIG power amp hiding somewhere just out of shot?
Yeah blue speakon thingy, very safe and cool. Just trying my GT6B with it, mmmmmmmmm. I think my fx board will be in the classifieds soon. I much prefere the sound of my basses through just the Avalon and IP310. I didn't use fx when I first started playing (1985) until I got the GT6B (last year). I think I will let my fingers do the talking. I love this set up.
To be fair, 500 watts should be more than enough to cover my gigs, anything requiring more than that and i'm D.I'ing anyway. My Thunderfunk was 500 at 4 ohms, and the Ampeg is 300 at 4 (all valve though), so i don't think i'd need more than 500 at 8ohms!!! My concern would be getting a well rounded tone is all i think!!! Just the single cone and cab....hmmm!!! I see some state side companies offer an IP212 though...oooo tasty!
Hi Jamie, you're not getting 500w at 8 ohms, you're getting 300w, which is what the speaker can handle, with a bit to spare from the amp. I would strongly suggest getting a two cab set up, as going from an SVT II with 2x DR bass cabs to 1x IP112 would be a disappointment. Going from 300 Ampeg valve watts to something else, requires a much more powerful solid state/mosfet amp.

Lovely collection. I really like the precision on the right, what pickups are in it?
You can merge topics Ped.. but I think this one does deserve to stand out alone... I would love to hear this set up!
Hi Dan, you know when you are in a good studio and your bass is DI'ed through a good pre into the studio monitors, well, it sounds a bit like that. For its size, it has a big sound and I love the sound of 10's. I emailed Mr Berg to ask what the cab was rated at (ohms) and I didn't get a reply, sorry, I did get a reply but he didn't answer that particular question. They say you get the full 1000w at 4 ohms into the cab but into 3x10's? I reckon 5.3 ohms but you do have a nice bit of headroom to spare, I wonder how it would fare against an Epi 3x10 with your amp and the Avalon! Is your cab 6 or 8 ohms? Steve.
i never ever give the soundguy a pre eq signal, i love my tone.
That's what I like to hear.
There used to be this naive, overbearing foul-mouthed american girl working for our manager/label who handled our image, artwork etc. She knew nothing about the music industry, or what's cool. anyway she convinced him he looked good looking like that. She used to prattle on about his 'good side' etc She is also responsible for our cr**py image (which is starting to get better now that she has gone and we have more control, a lot of old photos are still flying about though). We still take the piss out of him for it though.lol It was Jim Wirt. He did the first Hoobastank album, some of the incubus stuff and Something Corporate's albums i think. We used a hollow bodied gibson, came out really well! I've seen lots of people using Axess over the voodoo stuff. I've no idea how it compares though. Has anyone used their stuff? Our guitarist has just bought the voodoo lab setup but we havn't tried it yet. Ed p.s bassboy115 I like it! The intro to So Sorry is cool, do you use a Jazz live? I found that my jazz doesn't cut through so I only use it for acoustics now
That is so cool, being so honest, I was expecting a "f*** you". Brilliant tone and inspired choice of bass. Steve.
