Think of it like a lot of people do, "How hard can it be to spray a bit of lacquer on a bit of wood?" Then think of the work and skill and tools involved. Work. Removing or preping existing surface, ready for spraying, or, filling pores, priming, prior to spraying. Skill. As EBS Freak says, getting an even coverage of lacquer is a skilled job, too much and you have to start again. Tools. Respirator system, workable space to spray SAFELY in, equipment, polishig/buffing equipment, various blocks, cauls, etc. Work. Doing all of the above. Spraying, flattening, spraying, flatening, through all the grades when laying the lacquer, to the 600, 1200, 1800, buff, polish, it takes days to get it right. Getting a finish like flat, polished glass, is a skill worth paying for.

Lovely, hope you don't have maroon skirtings anymore. That is a beautiful instrument, why did you get rid?

Like your playing on "We are Family".
Hello Steve how are you,at the mo I hav'nt ,trying to sell some stuff, but have found a 74 svt, waiting in the wings, would really like an older 8x10 the 300watt version had them in the past, great sound, let me know if you hear of one Rich
Hi Rich, there is a 70's cab at one of my rehearsal rooms, it's a bit tatty and is there for hire, do you want me to ask about it? Only problem would be getting it to you from Birkenhead. Steve. -
It's only 20 lbs heavier than most old style 4x10's and 46 lbs lighter than an Ampeg 8x10. Sick cab.
-
It's got a bid of £400 with a few mins left.
-
Loving mine too, though it has taken a few changes to get here. I played with this last night but with my Glockenklang Double cab instead, because it's easier to get to rehearsals and the Tech cab is awaiting a new tweeter. I can hear and feel what I'm playing and the tone is just great.

Mark Latimours Sadowsky is a killer deal and he's a good bloke too.

For his ultra-current, chart-topping bass lines, Mike Elizondo relies on retro basses. Mike's main 5-string is an early Sadowsky (originally built for Darryl Jones circa 1990), with a narrow-spaced maple neck, black swamp ash body, EMG JJ pickups, and a Sadowsky preamp. For 4-strings, he chooses among a '64 Fender Jazz Bass, '68 Jazz, '74 Jazz with a maple neck, candy apple red '62 Precision, '68 P-Bass with flatwounds, fretless '78 P-Bass with flatwounds, ’61 Gibson EB-O, '72 Rickenbacker 4001, '63 Hofner Beatle Bass, Kay Jimmy Reed bass, and a Harmony bass. He also uses a fretless Modulus 5-string and a 1920s plywood upright bass of unknown origin. His keyboard bass is a Minimoog modified by Ken Rich. Strings for his bass guitars are Dean Markley medium nickel roundwounds, gauges .045–.125. He uses Monster Cables and Dean Markley heavy-gauge picks. Live, Mike plugs into Aguilar gear: a DB 680 tube preamp, DB 728 400-watt power amp, and two GS 410 cabinets. He is also never without his DB 924 outboard preamp box. In the studio Mike usually records through his Avalon U5 preamp/DI and his early-’60s Ampeg B-15 combo amp. His effects include a Line 6 Bass POD and a changing array of vintage pedals.

....or for a Steinberger.

I'm looking for a lefty tort for my P bass, cheapest I've found is about £60, in the states. Lefty guards are hard to source, I'll keep an eye out for you Alan.

Oh, yeah, pics please.

Hi Andy, glad to hear that you still love the Aggie but also pleased that the 'Borg has made your day. What does the Hellborg sound like at low volumes and are the mids easier to sculpt, as we know, it takes a LOT of "caressing" to get the Aggies mids just so.

Arr, laddie.

Listen to "Got it at The Delmar" by The Senseless Things, for his tone back then.

When I saw him play back in 1990, 91, 92, hw was using these headed Statii, Matrix, I think. Will look through old photos.

Excellent pro bass players in genres you dont expect!
Outstanding. Great melodic bass playing - lead bass in hardcore/punk is a rarity...but done well, it is what MAKES the band. This is a great example of judicious use of different styles which enhance the song - as opposed to fretboard w@nkery for the sake of it! I've heard Moby called technopunk, which I thought was ludicrous. I can appreciate Moby's musicality but I absolutely cannot stand his music! I want to go on a rampant killing spree when I hear it!
One final point. It's a small world. No matter how you part company, do not, under any circumstances, bad mouth any ex members. Depending on the nature of the sacking and/or how much of a tosspot they are, they may well get to work slagging you off to all their mates, promoters, etc... My previous band made a point of telling me what a knob and poor bass player my predecessor was. We had a band meeting one evening and said bass player walked in. Turns out that I'd sold him his bass and gigged with him loads of times in a previous band. I should add that I've broken every single rule in my little list at some point.
Best post of the thread so far.
Yes, it's an old Matrix Series I. Looks like the volume & pickup pan controls have been replaced. That disc around the volume control looks like it's been added as a repair, rather like a lot of the brass plates you get around the jack input sockets on JayDees. Bridge is non-standard as well, I think. Thanks to the OP for costing me £8 btw... Never heard Lily before & I've just bought the album off iTunes since this little bit of research!
Bridge looks like a Badass.
