  1. What a great thread (other than the bit about Leeds...as a Londoner I went to college in Leeds because people were massively more friendly than London). Newcastle is massively friendly for a Southerner if you accept them on their terms (not hard). Grainger Town is a revelation (Looks like Bath) and the countryside is properly beautiful.
  2. Cool. I'm not in the business of promoting the Gallery (although they did a fantastic job for me recently reverting a Wal to fretless). they do appear to have a new l/h Player Jazz which I am sure they would de-fret for you and set up, all within your budget. Just talk to Martin or John. I think they would take as much pride in this as a more expensive project.
  3. An alternative suggestion....pick up something like a fretted Mexican Jazz and take it to your local friendly luthier. The Bass Gallery advertises defret and lining for £110, and they will set the bass up for you
  4. And to ask the nurdy question, what is that Left Handed Bass Camelle Hinds is playing in the Style Council set?
  5. I have a lefty version of this bass and have been playing it over Christmas (re-taught myself the Alphonso Johnson/Jeffrey Osbourne line 'Stay with me Tonight'). It's an incredibly stable bass....keeps its tuning. Quite lively pickups...much more what I imagine a 70's Jazz to sound like, despite all the early Jazz references. Great all rounder bass.
  6. Could I have the name of your osteopath?
  7. Nothing like that for keeping all the royalties to one's self
  8. What a great thread! No one has actually said who had the misfortune to play the bass part on this......
  9. Last night's gig...anyone good at Cuban Jazz Vibes out there?
  10. But my goodness, that is an incredibly beautiful guitar Jazzyvee!
  11. If bitsa bass count...these are quite famous stickers (Paul Simonon's London Calling 78 Precision)
  12. What a great vid. I think I have the 12" single of that somewhere. It has always sounded like a synth bass to me though. How do you get your sound?
  13. Looks very like the one Brandon Boone is playing at the moment for the first half of the Tedeschi Trucks Band set. Lovely bass. GLWTS
  14. Risk 101 is a great seller, looks after his basses. Buy with confidence! GLWTS
  15. Is Darth Vader included in the price?
  16. That's really sad for a store that is presumably trying to push a high end niche brand in Europe. I think it will be very hard indeed to hide these basses from the playing community anywhere.
  17. I would just like to say that looking at the pics brought a big grin to my face. I think it is so OTT it is pretty good (but I'm a leftie, so not much use to me)
  18. Brings out my inner Pino. Properly good looking bass GLWTS
  19. John Deacon and/or Norman Watt Roy (a curious combination). My bass teacher introduced me to Motown (I had led a sheltered middle class adolescence) and I've never looked back. Now trying to teach myself Cuban Jazz which is a bit like unlearning everything from the last 30 years.
  20. Presumably a passive version of this: https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Bacchus_WL4DX_Blue.html Looks a pretty good deal
  21. Here's a 77 Ashtray, albeit on a lefty. This looks the same bar the screws
  22. These don't hang around. How much does it weigh?
