  1. Pretty much from day 1 of gigging I knew there was no real prospect of going pro whether that was in a band or a working musician. I've been in many originals bands which I'd say only 1 did anything of worth but even that I knew was never going to be a career.
  2. I'm not pro but work with pros and semi pros. Think most has been covered above but for emphasis I'll just repeat a few things in different words. Reading: clearly is advantageous but really depends on the circles you frequent. Plenty gigs out there that Reading isn't a requirement. Prep: always make sure your gear is fine, and you have replacement bits. If you're given a set to learn, make sure you learn it. Faffing about: don't do it. Everyone wins if you just turn up, plug in, line check and everything sounds like a bass. Nobody wants to hear you spend 20 minutes dialling in a tone. Over playing: don't do it. There's definitely a time and place for it. But that's a small percent. Other band members might look like they're enjoying it, but over playing gets tedious very quickly. I'm sure there's more but Scotland have scored so going to concentrate on the football now.
  3. Me neither. Mines last ages so the cost vs usage is not a particularly big worry of mine. Plus mine just degenerates slowly.. it doesn't juat die mid gig... unless there's circuits out there that do!
  4. Received them this afternoon. Very comfortable, and seem really well put together. Soundwise, they are extremely loud compared to my old Sennheiser HD206's. They have a bit of "smiley face" EQ, which i quite like for general listening but not so good for recording, or bass playing IME. One niggle is that the left ear squeaks when moved and is quite loud but hopefully that disappears once they're worked in! Overall, quite happy for less than £40.
  5. although... just in the past 30 seconds, I've purchased a pair of OneOdio pro-30s. Might be cheap nonsense but after a few strong youtube video reviews thought i'd take a wee chance!
  6. KZ as10's for in ear monitoring. I bought these on a whim as I've been using the kz zs10s (non pro) for years and loved them, and thought id try another model with a slightly different frequency profile. Bass sounds absolutely delicious and they don't muddy, which i find alot of headphones do. Problem with this style though is i find them a bit of a faff putting them off and on so they're not ideal for home use.. especially with the foam inserts i use - takes 5-10 seconds per ear.
  7. +1 for the SY1. Only had it for a short period of time, and never used it live but i was mightily impressed with the organ sound and the tracking. Can't remember it doing that grindy hammond sound that Lord had, but i'm sure mixed with a few other pedals, you could come up with something!
  8. I genuinely wouldn't even try to play it as it is on the record. This is a very easy one to busk along with and change the structure and feel as you go dependent on the crowd participation. half time bits, double time bits, double choruses, etc.... crowds absolutely go nuts for it. Well maybe drunk scottish crowds
  9. I've always set my HPF at 50hz, and I sound great.
  10. I'm not a GNR fan boy but like the early stuff, and I actually quite like Chinese Democracy. This sounds very much like the dregs of their musical ideas. Plus. that's not how Axl sounds now. That's just a complete fabrication.
  11. Nice one! I had an LH500 for a while....so loud and clean.
  12. Great wee set up. Case is in pretty much perfect condition. Board has velcro attached, and has larger feet attached to fit the power supply underneath (although these are held on by friction so can be removed easily) Power supply in perfect condition although its got double sided sticky tape on it to keep it secure. Great wee set up, comes with a few cables to, so you're pretty much ready just to connect up your pedals to it. Id prefer to sell together as they fit quite nicely. Purchased start of the year for a wee project, but didn't come to much, so this is now surplus to requirements. I have the box for the power supply. To buy the two items brand new, it would be £110 plus shipping, so grab a bargain. No idea what posting will be but lets say a tenner. (UK)
  13. I gig with a HX stomp, but I've went through alot of the zoom stuff. The MS60b is a genius bit of kit. For my function gigs, id happily use my ms60b. Obviously you need to be a bit more realistic with how its used over the 3 pedal stomp but from sound alone, you'll be happy.
  14. I use a Protection Racket Bass Guitar Case Deluxe. semi hard case for the bass, and a big enough pocket for my small pedal board (in its own case) and cables, then an additional pocket for some basic essentials (lube and condoms etc) It's on the bulky side but nowhere near as heavy as a proper hard case. and the big pocket at the front means i i can normally get away without carrying an extra case... which I love.
  15. Aye, I suspect 99% of guitarists could play bass to a certain level so it's not a complete surprise to see some of them give it a pop!
  16. The most I've done in the music scene is when I joined a hip hop band. Wasn't into hiphop and I almost certainly wouldn't have went to see them. But we saw a bit of the the world, played some huge gigs, supported some massive acts and recorded some highly liked music in the scene. If you think it will be fun then go for it!
  17. Aye, first thing I do is when i pick up a nikki Sixx signature model is slap with it. honestly does my nut in. Slap probably makes up 1% of all bass playing but yet reviews like this are all about the reviewer showing off their slap chops.
  18. I owned a guitar version of one of these, can't remember exactly what it was modelled around, but it was spectacular! Stuck it through a cheapo 4x12 and it went LOUD! I'll need to try one of the bass ones at some point!
  19. Interesting. Ive heard alot of folk disliking the stomp tuner. Honestly, I can't find any fault with it!
  20. I bet you could find a two pedal ext pedal that could replace that polytune. One less 9v lead, one more pedal to control the stomp
  21. I've only changed pickup on one bass, and there was a tiny change in sound, but it wasn't enough for to consider it a massive upgrade. I've never upgraded a pre, but if I were in your shoes, i'd be tempted to try that first- The B5s are great though, ive played one and can't remember thinking it sounding not so great.
  22. Just in case this helps anyone. I've been using kz zs10s (non pro version) for a few years now. Love them, sound is very flat which works well for IEMs. I recently purchased the kz AS10s as a wee treat to myself thinking they will be an upgrade. I've A/B'd them and I can confirm that the as10s have a slight more 'smiley face' EQ feel to them, but not an in your face type EQ: still reasonably flat.. They work equally well as IEMs. Can't say I can tell any significant sound quality improvement. So the conclusion is, If i lost both pairs, id probably replace them with a set of the cheaper zs10s.
