  1. After 2 years of pain, spinal surgery,1 year off work, failed physio ,one simple x-ray identified problem and 20 minute procedure - bingo -sorted,oh almost forgot heart attack after surgery.
  2. hiho I went for physio and ended up with a paralysed arm, ended up being calcific tendonitis
  3. Hiho,Know how you feel.I know it took me a long time to realise that how can anybody know how I feel but there is a lot of us who do.15 years of the roller coaster ride free falling into the darkness is hard work dragging yourself up all the time is very tiring, dislocating and destructive.Keep on keepin on,turn your face to the sun and let your shadows fall behind you.
  4. Hiho,I got flung off Rickenbacker forum for asking John Hall why they didn,t fit Hipshot bridge as standard-oops. Ihad wobbly saddles but a email to hipshot and new non wobbly ones were sent very swiftly at no cost.Great customer service . I love that I can palm mute without my palms getting shredded along with intonation etc and it looks so cool.
  5. Hiho,I,ve had a hipshot bridge on my 4003 for a decade-Brilliant piece of kit.
  6. Hiho,I remember Yasuki guitars they had the same stuff on them
  7. Hiho ,I,m similar,SP212 for space and OBC115 everywhere else and can use both when you want to level buildings. It,s the original head I,ve got ,full power 8 or 4 ohm and the Fixed DI.
  8. Hiho,I use a Hercules transformer-the dogs nads
  9. Hiho, it might be an idea to crimp the string and cut to length above the crimp to stop it unravelling.
  10. Hiho Dunlop super bright steels, last for ages.
  11. Hiho,Lovely bass,I am biased. How to set pick up height, this is my way.Set the neck pick up height first,if it,s to high they start sounding weird you will notice it,it,s like clicks n distortion just back it off a bit then set the bridge height to the same volume by flicking over the selector switch till they sound the same volume-that,s it works for me. Enjoy your lovely Rick,ps they are a bit picky about what you play them through,Orange does it for me.
  12. Hiho I,ll bite,Ampeg big classic valve head and 8x10 cab has been industry standard for decades I have played quiet a few of them.To me they sound like what,s the fuss about solo but they work when the band kicks in.I love Marmite but Orange does it for me but if I was playing at a festival and Ampeg was there I would just use it and not worry as long as the valves were in good shape and the speakers hadn,t been thrashed to death. The best Ampeg sound I ,ve ever heard was an old flip top through an Ampeg 15" with an old vintage precision nicotine stains and all, never forgotten that sound and the keyboard player had an old Hammond with real Leslie speakers-Aural heaven. ps-the drummer had an old Rodgers kit and it sounded fab as well.I talked to the band after the gig and they had been playing together for over 30 years with the same gear.
  13. hiho,no traffic wardens after 6pm,limited space if at ground level but downstairs to cellar bar if not upstairs.Hope this helps
  14. Hiho,as stated check what the venue has.I play with a Preamp/DI box,no amp unless it,s the cavern who have there own backline.A handcart is a good bet as well.If the bollards are down you can take a chance but they might go up before you leave and your stranded apart from that enjoy.Parking is a bit of a lucky bag. ps what venue is it I,ve played a few of them.
  15. Hiho,here,s my take-for a P I built my own,for a J I use USA Peavey Foundations. Tin hat on and in my foxhole-over n out
  16. oh no the gooched man. Here,s my observations over a long period of years,I have seen pictures of rough ones out the factory but have never saw one in the flesh. After 35 years or so it,s still my go to bass and I have a few, when it comes to shoddy build I,ve come across a few corkers but all the Ricks have been good. Some of them needed a set up but you learn to do it yourself.I would recommend a Hipshot bridge apart from that alls well. Embrace the clank it cuts through the mix
  17. Hiho just use a preamp/DI pedal like a BDI21,cheap as chips ,use the DI out to record.I got mine over a decade ago s/h for £6. Great pedal use it in front of your amp,go sansamp straight to desk/PA which I do for some gigs and of course recording.
  18. Hiho go out and gig at least twice a week for a few years and it,ll be right
  19. Hiho, you,ve got a cracking bass there,I,ve had mine since 2003 and it,s great. I have replaced the scratchplate with a carbon fibre one and fitted a hipshot d-tuner.I A/B my SUB with a Classic through my rig and they play, feel and sound the same without the hefty price tag.I,m starting to wear through the paint on the back of the neck but hey ho after 16 years that's mojo. All I can say is fabulous gigging bass and I like the look of it. I,ve never needed to adjust since I set it up when I got it,what more can you say.If you got it for a good price-happy days.Enjoy many happy years of playing like I have. There is a lot of love for these we just try to keep it quiet. There is a story that Musicman lost money on these and there is a USA SUB club on another site. Again well done on getting one of these fabulous basses and remember the EQ can be savage if overboosted but that,s another story.Oh a quickie seemingly the EQ is the original 2 band circuit which may be used on the classic.I might be right but if somebody can correct my recolections that would be good.
  20. HIHO sounds like an original cause I never need to go past 4 or 10.30 oclock and it,s blistering loud but the sound of the world is spot on for me.I have played through the other Orange heads and cabs but my favourite is the Terror with an OBC115 or being super compact I use my SP212 ,forget the isobaric stuff it,s a seriously loud cab with depth that defies it,s size but hey they listen to market place and well done to bring it back. I notice that they are using a 12at7 for the tone instead of the original 12ax7 /ecc83s.I might try this out as I have a few Mullard NOS military grade tubes.
  21. That,s the one, totally agree whatever floats yer boat.Alot of Rick players swear on using Rotosound strings but my last piece of the jigsaw was Dunlop super bright stainless strings 40-100.All my basses have them although some have 45-105.A proper set up makes all the difference but that,s true for all basses.
  22. Hiho,I,ve been using the old Terror head for almost 6 years now.I wouldn,t change it for anything. It floats my boat perfectly and I have used the other Orange heads and most of the cabs.I normally use an OBC 115 as well as a SP212 and I,m a happy bunny, never short of headroom or volume and the sound is perfect for me. Try them out and let your ears make the choice just cause it,s perfect for me doesn,t mean it,s perfect for everyone or we would all be playing Rickenbackers through Orange stacks with a Thunderbird as a backup.
  23. Hiho sorry to hear you,ve had a heart attack.Hope you have a speedy recovery. I was back gigging in 10 days but that,s me.The advice I was given was get back to normal .Well gigging is normal for me. Ask your cardiac team for advice they are good. All the best for a speedy recovery-keep on keepin on
