  1. Hiho ,I,ve tried to stay away from this topic. Are they overated, not a bit.How do I qualify this,I play about 100 gigs a year and have a stable of great basses all different to each other but I go back to Rick all the time.I have fitted a Hipshot bridge years ago and have nothing but praise for them.Like the bass it,s set up and forget. My Rick is now 20 years old and still going strong but the pleasure I have every time I play it, how do you put a price on that.Ergonomics and comfort, lot lighter than my Musicman, more comfy to play than my thunderbird and I could go on.Sound-nothing like it and it cuts and punches through the mix.Getting the right amp n cab is IMHO quiet a consideration as they can be picky but Orange does the trick for me. I,ll dig out my tin hat now.
  2. hiho,I have used a terror for almost 6 years now with no problems they are great heads.I can only comment on Orange cabs which I use they sound great with plenty oooomph. The cabs are OBC115 and SP212 the isobaric one.I use one or the other depending on venue, practicing.I have used both cabs together a few times and the sound is huge. Some early heads had hot DI but that was remedied which is the one I have ,the DI works a treat.Remember that flat EQ isn,t everything at noon it,s bass 9oclock,the rest at noon which makes a difference there is a lot of bass on tap. Here,s a video of terror head and SP212 cab.
  3. Always be a moving target,it keeps people watching you
  4. Hiho,I,ve been using AKG D5 for years. For the price they are great.Good gigging mic and records nicely as well.
  5. Dunlop super bright S/S all you need and last a very long time.
  6. Hiho great strings but my new squeeze is Dunlop super bright S/S good strings though.
  7. Hiho, here,s my take. I,ve been using preamp /DI boxes for over a decade. They are the most useful tool in the box.I wouldn,t go out without one. I do some gigs without amp n cab where there in the city center and impossible parking, its bass,Preamp/DI ,cables in gigbag over shoulder and walk in. Recording, plug in play-job done. Live with amp n cab, stick it in front of amp,DI to desk/FOH amp for stage volume. The handy bit here is if your backline goes down your still in FOH/PA and the gig goes on. There is little excuse not to have one tucked away as they can save the night. There is a lot of love for the Behringer BDI21 on here ,not only is it cheap it does the job.I,ve had my one over a decade and got it S/H for 6 quid and it still works faultlessly .Ido have a few others and they,re good but keep going back to BDI21 as it,s so easy to use. They are clever little boxes.
  8. Hiho,I,ll qualify my stance-I love nothing more than a Rickenbacker. I have read all the wonky bass threads over the years and it is ridiculous that they allow crap ones out the factory and then flex their muscles if anybody dares to complain I have been removed from Rick forum for daring to put a hipshot bridge on my Rick.they should be fitted as standard ,that,s what got me removed-petty. They are fantastic basses that play and sound like no other, luckily I got a good one but there is no excuse for putting out poor finished, badly set up basses. The impression is that they don,t care and the warranty is about as much use as a chocolate fire grate, again the impression is how dare you criticise the Rickenbacker. Ultimately all these issues fall at the feet of the head honcho for allowing this state of afairs to exist. Is it a lack of training I don,t know but they have been making them for long enough so should be able to make one without the problems that reoccur with regular monotiny.Correct me if I,m wrong but poor finish should be picked up at QC time but it doesn,t seem that anybody is interested at the factory. I still think they are fantastic basses and will not part with my one.
  9. Hiho my orange logo fell off and I reattached it with hot melt glue.Hope this helps. Great sounding cab by the way.
  10. Hiho I never leave home without one. Handy for doing gigs without an amp going FOH with a bit in the monitor, great for recording. If your amp goes down, plug it into PA.
  11. Hiho get in touch with Hipshot great company to deal with.I had a problem with bridge saddles and they replaced them free of charge within a week to my door -no quibble. Can,t say better than that.
  12. Hiho, just had a wonderful experience with Hipshot. I bought a bridge years ago and recently got round to fitting it.I had the well documented saddle wobble/creep where the saddles would screw themselves down. I got in touch with Hipshot and they replaced the set of saddles with no quibble and the turnaround was impressive. The new saddles work a treat. Well done Hipshot if everyone had customer service like this the world would be a better place. Big thanks to Hipshot for speedy quality service.
  13. Hiho bit of a hoo ha doing away with full power on 4 or 8 ohm but hey ho. On the Orange video they have changed V2 to a 12 AT7 instead of an ECC83s on the original. I,ll stick to my original one.
  14. Hiho in my 20,s play in a band as much as possible coming up to my sixties-just had a heart attack-play in a band as much as possible as long as I can
  15. Hiho,I,ve got a bitsa v4,very good it is to but have a look for USA Peavey you get a lot of bass for your money.I have a few tucked away and they are quality basses.
  16. hiho got mine s/h 12 years ago still going strong,I do about 100 gigs a year.Great piece iof kit and doubles as a DIbox. I have done gigs with this straight to PA without amp when needed as well as recording.
  17. Hiho I,m going to ease myself in-2 gigs this weekend.
  18. Hiho I was rushed to cardiac unit .Confirmed that I had a heart attack. I,m not stressed at all about gigging just wondering if I should scale it back a bit or just get back to normal.I think I,ll just get back to normal and keep gigging. Thanks to all for advice and thoughts-keep on keepin on
  19. Hiho had a heart attack.Question is slow down gigging or get back to normal.Luckily for me no damage to heart. No narrowed blood vessels. No cholesterol. I'm thinking I need to stop getting stressed with life-stop worrying. Gagging to get back gigging
  20. Hiho I ve got one ,I'll give you 175 for it.Bargain of the year. It is a USA SUB.the real deal not a copy.Fantastic basses had my one for 15 years now-it's a keeper.
  21. Hiho I have a USA SUB bass got it new in 2003 still got it .It's the real deal apart from the industrial finish and slab body.Sounds the same as a classic when I A/B them through my own rig.
  22. Hiho I play my Rickenbacker 4003 through an Orange terror 500 with an OBC 115 growls like a pack of wolves.stick a BDI21 in front of amp, turn up the presence and hey ho classic Ricky sound for the last 5 1/2 years.
  23. Hiho Orange made a terror bass 500 combo with 12" speakers might be a consideration. I have the separate head and Cab SP212 with an OBC 115 which I swap around or use both depending on gig, practice or whatever the situation.
  24. Hiho yes I've got my ideal set up. Orange terror bass 500 head,Orange OBC115 Cab. I've had these for 5 1/2 years now. Very Happy, more than happy.I still get excited going to play a gig just to hear it.
  25. Hiho just a few notes. Neck is from a vintage Musicman copy.Straight fit but you have drill new bolt holes.High mass bridge-I like the flat plate for palm muting. Switchcraft electrical bits. Schaller NOS early 70s tuners . Wizard thumper custom wind pup. Sounds and plays amazing and all for under £100-life is good. The reason for the build got bass mega cheap unused.Played it and it was really good.Wanted a maple neck, they didn't make them them or I would've had a Tony Butler.Took a chance the vintage maple neck would have same neck pocket,Bing Bing correct then it was a case of why not but they are great basses for the price and really punch above their weight.
