Practise as much as you want to!

Picture added showing the piece with a P bass style template to show how much weight you will be cutting and routing away. Another piece of this same ash block made up as a 'modern' style body weighed in with just a Hipshot brass bridge attached at around 2.4kg / 5.25lbs. This is for one piece of a solid Ash wood block large enough for a bass build. Bought from Germany sometime ago. Postage to be added. I do not have exact postage costs (if its needed and any collection meet up can be arranged) but I looked a 'guide' from the "Parcel2Go" website and used a packed size of 60x40x6cm and weighted @ 6kg .... UPS gave £6.84 uninsured and £8.64 insured. (Ebay UK prices show an average of £13/-15 for similar goods so please do check and decide yourself). I can drop this off near me to a few different 'drop off' shops like UPS or Hermes or Post Office but I will leave it up to the buyer to decide on their choice of courier and even better if you sort that yourself and I can deliver to a shop nearby for collection.

I was given for xmas a soldering station .... mine was about £45/50. It will keep the iron at the chosen temprature...be careful what setting you use. there are a number of manufacturers around starting here... https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=solder+staion&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR10.TRC2.A0.H0.Xsolder+station.TRS0&_nkw=solder+station&_sacat=0

NOW £85 on Basschat. Markbass Octave pedal in nice condition and all working, used but not abused. Marks along the side are from being on the pedal board. This is one of two octave pedals I have so I'm making room on the board by moving this Markbass one on. Power by 9v battery or 9v-12v pedal power supply. I'll leave the Velcro on the underside. I don't know if I still have the box. No power supply plug with this. Off Markbass website... Input: mono ¼” jack Input impedance: 500 Kohm / 2 Vpp Output: mono ¼” jack Output impedance: 100 ohm/6Vpp Controls: Dry/Oct1/Oct2 -∞ ÷ 0dB Dimensions: 81.8 x 54.8 x 124.5 mm / 6.7” x 5.7” x 2.4” Weight: 350 g / 0.77 lbs Power requirements: DC input: +9/+12VDC or standard 9-volt battery

UPDATE!!! More Courier Problems! This time it's MyHermes
mybass replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
Here is the Parcel2Go page I mentioned (and just added above!) with an address at the bottom of the page. https://www.parcel2go.com/content/about.aspx I'm afraid I cannot find the phone number. -

I don’t think I have any numbers still but will look around. Parcel2Go page attached with their address at the bottom. They say they in their explanation here that they are a ‘comparison website’ and we would guess that is why they cannot pursue lost package claims but have to relay back to the courier. It is probably best to use their site for comparison of prices Andy then see if the actual courier site has a similar price. https://www.parcel2go.com/content/about.aspx -

Good luck. Same problem here with Parcel2Go (thought previous use had been good). I did eventually get a phone number and it may have been through the FB messages. My seller had picture proof of correct packaging and more importantly, a picture of the drivers collection sticker on the package. I also mentioned in a message about asking 'an' ombudsmen what my rights were! -
Are you an experienced woodworker, because If you already have this router setup and are used to it, then you might be okay but I would think that if you are a novice a hand held router could be dicey, they can ‘kick’ like crazy dangerous. Heavy duty sanding down may be a safer approach and easier to gauge how much wood / neck thickness you are taking off.

Just bought fake D'addario strings or not ?
mybass replied to flippyfloop's topic in Accessories and Misc
Obviously somewhere in the world is a factory churning false strings out for whichever brand they can copy..... and as an aside, Shure mics are the most ‘faked’ mics out there. I was told by Shure UK a few years ago that Shure continually find and get the Chinese authorities to close down these fake factory sites. -

The fake ones I bought had the correct colour ball ends but put next to a legit D'Addario set the shade of each ball end colour of the fake set was easily seen to be different from the D’Addario set. -
Yes as Norris says, check all cables first, check internal wires of the cab are intact too as they can on some internal connectors work loose and maybe touch other terminals or actually come away.

Open the cardboard pack. Inside the sealed strings have a serial number on the packet that cross references online with D’Addario,s website. Go to the website and search for ‘Play Real’ where you are asked for your email address and the next page will ask for the serial number which is checked and immediately tells you if they are fake or ‘Real’. I ve been sold fake strings before, their volume was way down on a ‘real’ set. The package colouring was slightly off and the ball end colours were slightly off too. -

Going to see Canadian singer/guitarist-slide/songwriter Joey Landreth at The Boileroom in Guildford....touring small UK venues in April. He is 'rated' by people like Bonnie Raitt to John Hiatt etc. This guy knows his way around his guitar. I saw him at a fantastic gig in The Railway in Winchester a few years ago with his brother in their Bros Landreth band and have to say I was knocked out. I've sadly missed out on tickets for The Tedeschi Trucks Band at the London Palladium in April.

bad news indeed....lets hope the culprits are caught out.

Excellent bass, loud too, well put together, only problem for me was a slightly wide P bass neck for me but a great colour too in daylight.

Tedeschi Trucks London Palladium - Help a Hick
mybass replied to stewblack's topic in General Discussion
I think they do pretty long shows but maybe call the Palladium as there may be an absolute ‘curfew’ time for the show to finish by. Theatres often do have curfews, sometimes to do with getting the staff away by a certain time/midnight re: overtime payments etc. Travel wise....check out tube or London overground train times with the possibility of drive and park up in a suburb? Or get an advance Travelodge booking with free parking...there is a Travelodge right next to Teddington BR station SW London which is on the loop line to Waterloo station. -

Stewmac USA post up stuff about guitar build/repair and parts....here is a recent one about their own neck shims....gives a good idea of how it can all work. https://www.stewmac.com/How-To/Trade_Secrets/How_to_shim_a_guitar_neck_so_the_strings_dont_hit_the_frets.html?lac_guid=1328a8a6-b620-e911-80e4-ecb1d775572a&utm_campaign=TS0323&utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&utm_content=TS0323_C_20190126

At the start of the read up I was about to say always check cables but you have and I presume also each individual stand alone pedal with the power supply (I don't know this particular one,) so can it be the power supply, could you borrow another one? I would be surprised if the MXR was the problem, analogue or not but then again....?

Top man fluffo.....great to dealing him .... in a gas station forecourt of course! MarkBass cab collected bang on time around the M25/M20 saving us both heaps of extra driving and time. Cheers.

Matt, I doubt you will be able to find these books easily. There are three, written by Raymond Elgar in the days of black and white, the 1960’s. I think there was a reprint done in the USA a few years ago of the three books. They are fascinating. They are called “Introduction ToThe Double Bass”....”More About The Double Bass”....”Looking At The Double Bass”. There are mistakes in them about certain basses and you will find online comments about this. Some professional players have said they knew the bass in a certain picture and that Elgar had not got the maker correct for that particular bass etc etc. Current online prices vary greatly for a single book from £150-350....
