7.25 radius fingerboard - any thoughts on staggered pole pups?
mybass replied to Kevsy71's topic in Bass Guitars
DiMarzio do make pickups with screw up/down pole pieces. I had a set years ago that I do believe gave a better balanced per string output. Independent manufactures could maybe make you a ‘radius’ pickup. When you look at a Precision bass the pickups always seem to be screwed/angled down more on the outer E and G string to compensate for fingerboard/string radius. -
It is a good book, only single 'note' but all the breakdown of times is in there......please don't end up being a drummer though 😀

Couriers for bass guitars - recommendations?
mybass replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
not knowing what the bass is but if the neck can be detached for shipping. SIze of box and less chance of damage can be gained. -
Long shot...Could be the volume pot shaft has moved internally off its zero position..new pot needed?

Be very in trouble then!! Thanks for the comment.

Could now be at this years bash. I think I missed last years. A couple of problems to sort and one problem is with my gig tomorrow...Anyone interested in purchasing a fretless bass?...one of my build fretless basses, 33" scale with 'nice bits' pictured below (it now has Seymour Duncan STK stack pups). Narrow neck, super slim and fast, just under 1.5" nut width. Its been gigged. I can bring it if someone is looking for a fretless. Third pic on the seat taken by Bluejay a couple of years ago at Bassbash. I'm also considering moving a great condition Markbass 2x10 (not the traveller).

You got me thinking about 'MTP'. I found an advert for a Markbass guitar combo with MTP described as ....'Mark Propriety Technology,...I'm still not enlightened!

In case your question was relative to oil and 'Bore Oil'....as used for woodwind instruments to protect against moisture in the bore of the instrument, and on fingerboards to keep a degree of moisture content in the wood and help prevent drying out. Woods are usually pre dried by kiln or air dried naturally for years for luthier build requirements to help stop expansion and contraction of wood once it has been cut and made into a guitar. I use it once maybe twice a year on my (macassar ebony) fingerboard, dabbed onto a cloth, applied to just simply wet along the board then wiped down with a clean cloth.

My DB repairer used (Yamaha) Bore Oil but I cannot find out whats actually in it. This link should take you to Amazon for one make of Bore oil but no list of what oils are used though it states absolutely no Lemon oil in it! https://www.amazon.co.uk/MN702-Cleaner-Conditioner-Wooden-Instruments/dp/B00LWH8YOO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1536596030&sr=8-1&keywords=bore+oil+clarinet

Similar situ many years ago. D’Addario new string line, I think they were called ‘Half Rounds’. Lots of ‘residue’ left on a cleaning cloth. I reckoned it was micro filings not washed off properly after string grinding. D’Addario would hopefully have the strings back from you for analysis. ..... I should add it was a couple of sets with this problem, one set replaced when I sent the troublesome one back to the USA.

Maybe here? https://tonetechluthiersupplies.co.uk

The LM111 is great amp and I’m sure the CASA is too so it may come down to the visual/size thing between these two amps making you decision. Looks like both are 500watts into 4 ohms, maybe the eq is set/works differently on each of these two amps.

Drummers who keep changing the beat during the song
mybass replied to walt 2012's topic in General Discussion
..not only but also........I think the latest drum double kick drum 6/8 'paraletic parradumble' exercise that said drummer has practised relentlessly has to show its face on a gig otherwise said drummer will feel they haven't shown it off enough and to hell with what the song is about! -
Always worth a second time then 😂

Has the Tedeschi Trucks Band been mentioned yet.....?

I think it was Mike, gas oven rings burning in the kitchen for heat if it was winter!

Louie Bellson and Gil Breines wrote this one up many years ago https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0769233775/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=moderndrumm04-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=0769233775&linkId=24c8448d4fd73df04e066c3847c93fd1 I hope the above link copies up okay. It should show the book but from Amazon USA but should be available in England somehow. Although for drums, it’s shows the breakdown of notation, through all the syncopations and triplets. All single note stuff as far as bass guitar is concerned but put a metronome on maybe to help get started deciphering your triplets.

Any oil should be used sparingly and not too often...my f boards get a clean and light Bore oil maybe twice a year. Over use of any oil can be negative. Personal experience many years ago saw a roadie using it every night resulting in the guitarists graphite nut melting around his strings and my bass f board dulling the tone down and the bridge getting residual oil over it. He stopped after the threat of being sacked! I would hazard frets could also lose their tight seating.

Bore oil, as used for woodwind instruments like clarinet and oboe, Yamaha is one manufacturer. My double bass repairer of many years ago used it and Istill use it on my macasser ebony f boards, once a year.

Cheers to you Count Bassy! The days of The Shortlist, wow, many a year ago as the band backing for Roger Chapman. i think Wilbarston Hall was about 6 years ago andI think that venue isn’t holding gigs anymore.
-
I can confirm that I am! Always trying to get Buddy over to the U.K. I was hoping for end of this year but many venues book so so far ahead it’s kinda difficult to arrange a decent enough tour for Buddy. We were on the 2017 UK 36 date tour with John Mayall. Lots of new fans off that tour for Buddy so I agree that something more should occur now!

I took my GS Mini back after a couple of months from new to have the action and one fret buzz sorted so they aren’t exactly perfect out if the box every time. Unless the neck relief/ truss rod is not set up good then it must be a high nut or high bridge needs sorting?
