  1. I've used Ash for many years on fretless to help along the 'attack' of the note whereas my Roscoe Beck Fender fretted bass has an 'aged' Alder body and doesn't quite have the same attack as ash, (great recording bass though). Thanks to Paulhauser's link here is what Roger Sadowsky says and I agree.... Ash: Hands down, the tightest, brightest and punchiest body wood. Alder: Sweeter and warmer, with fuller midrange
  2. My double bass repairer used bore oil, Yamaha have it, it’s used down the bore of wind instruments. I’ve used it ever since on (Macassar) ebony fingerboards. Once a year should do it. Don’t pour it onto the board, dampen a rag with it and spread it, leave for a minute and then wipe off.
  3. Picked this up recently, in great condition as new and in the original box. Very nice chorus with variations and a bit of a different colour to others! Selling it as a recent MXR arrival with tone controls is better suited for my fretless.
  4. MarkBass Traveller is a good cabinet, the larger 2x10 HF is easily heard to be better as the front port helps the low end volume better than the rear ported Traveller. I speak of the 8 ohm cabs only here. I’m not so sure that a 4 or 8 ohm cab can be pushed to the full extent of the full 500 watt amp without distortion occurring.... 2 cabs better than one for full volume.
  5. This Hartke is a recent acquisition but I’m going to go with my also recently arrived MXR deluxe chorus as the MXR has bass and treble eq which I’ve found helps a lot, especially on my fretless but I'll add that the Hartke is a very nice sounding chorus The pedal is in as new condition, runs off 9v battery or mains power (not included), the plus being with using a battery is that Hartke have an easy to access battery compartment, no fiddling with unscrewing the base plate to change batteries at a gig. and so selling at £30 for the Hartke pedal posted in the UK. Thomann website has a few sound examples for this pedal and it sells there at around £59 plus postage on their website.
  6. Great dealings, tidy piec of kit and great comms, cheers dear chap.
  7. Neutrik seem to fit better as well, better contact point due to their 'stouter' circumference over other/cheaper plugs.....and watch out for plugs that look like Neutrik, especially the shiny fakish ones!
  8. As a check......pickup height, is it too near the E string, it could possibly restrict string vibration if it’s too close.
  9. I’m wondering if my old Gibson Les Paul bass is still about, maybe with a Basschatter? It’s a 60’s one, dark brown and I had the neck rebuilt to a long scale by D Knight of Surrey in the 1970s. He also put a bass clef at the 12th fret and retained the headstock facing. Making it a long scale bass also made the case redundant, I never thought about that at the time!
  10. Didn’t Status basses use this type of multi detent pot?
  11. possibly Allparts UK....Warmouth USA...?
  12. well the obvious source is Markbass' site showing 17.5kg for the cabinet. Possibly a new compression horn model (or speaker) may have added a bit of weight between the years this cab has been available but likely the cab packaged up would show at 19-21kg on some shop sites?
  13. I mean ‘unread content’
  14. It’s okay nowthanks Charic. slightly annoying ( using iPad) is reading the ‘unread posts’ and opening a postto read the content, when I go back Unread posts it often goes right back to the top of the page again. I realise now also that once I’ve read that post it disappears from my ‘unread posts’ page.
  15. I’ve just noticed Physcoandy has a New York cab for sale.
  16. Or.....try the MarkBass Ninja 2x12” 8 ohm cab that handles up to 800 watts, (you can always add a second cab to this 8ohm Ninja) and as I have this cab and the LM3 I can vouch for it. Or else you could run their other 2x12” cab which is the New York one that only comes as a 4 ohm cab but still 800watts and so your amp could only ‘safely’ run this single cab. It’s the expense to consider now!
  17. Just beaten to the post here by Lozz........I'm afraid to say if you already have a 4 ohm cabinet already, you can't pair it with any other cab as the Markbass amp will only run a total load of 4 ohms. If you had two cabs of 8ohms each, then your amp will 'read' a 4 ohm load and give its full 500 watts power out into two cabs, bigger and better sound. I would have to say sell the present 4 ohm cab and get two of the 8 ohm cabs.
  18. Ninja is great, lots of headroom but speakers to support it would be needed.
  19. Maybe get it checked up for any possible signs of internal wear n tear...Real Electronics in Sheffield deal with MarkBass repairs.....0114 2442969
  20. Good grief, just make it a prerequisite for everyone to have their home location in their profile so it shows up in the advert.
  21. Yes it’s down to staff of the day. The check in staff at the ticket desk usually meet you at the gate too for boarding. If there is a difficult staff person, this is where they will finally get ya!
