btw : lol at playing the Wii in the living room with your pet dragon while hubby takes pics in the kitchen (pic 8)
We've all done it! I've still to beat my pet Manticore at Sega Bass Fishing...
The only Warwick I ever halfway liked was the old Fortress - which I see they only now do as a "budget" Rockbass version. Lovely sound, and I quite liked the coloured oil finish. But I have to admit that top horn is nasty thing
It's not so budget now though, i really want one (in each colour!). Aren't these Rockbasses the 2010 ones a year late though? Either way they look tasty, wish they'd stain the necks darker so they looked more authentic
+1 on the GT4. Really good stingray sound. I found the laqured neck the only disappointing thing on that bass really, but very playable. The sound was the best i have found for sub £200.
Sandpaper! You'd like the IGB too i reckon, too expensive for me new but if you see one for around £200 2nd hand then snap it up. They were £350 - £450 new (for the 68) but the build quality is ace - recessed chunky bridge and a gorgeous carved top. Also had a series/parallel switch and a decent curcuit (with bypass)

Coincidentally i got my Fortress One out of the spare room yesterday after a few months of playing mainly cheap Jazzes/builds. It's such a great sounding and feeling instrument that it's definitely gonna get used more often now! Had it through the Superfly/EA rig and it was brilliant
-
Also keep an eye out for an Aria STB GT4 or IGB 66, both do a good MM sound and have a ingle humbucker. I was well impressed with the IGB, does a great Flea sound

That would make the Warwick a December '03 bass. Regards selling these, take really good pictures showing all of the bass(es), borrow a good camera if necessary! Might be worth a look through the FS section to see what similar basses have sold for previously Also change the title to "Warwick SS1 and Spector Euro" so anybody looking for those basses knows to click!

I really like the look of them!
I think my brains literally had enough lol, I should probably just get a nice powerful head and a good sensitive speaker except I know that's gonna cost nearly a grand and i really cannot afford that!!
Check out that MB combo i linked to, seeing as you've budgeted £500 for a cab a combo like that is worth a look. -
Need a small lightweight cab under £500 HELP!!
lemmywinks replied to willyf87's topic in Amps and Cabs
There's a guy near me selling his tec amp 210 cab 300 quid and he's pretty close to me, yeah in a perfect world I would like to rely purely on the sound made from the cabs I'm using without FOH support, except it's not a perfect world and I have a lack of funds lol, but as long as I sound good through both mediums I'd be happy!! I'm definitely not looking for a huge cab, just something that can hold it's own be lobbed in the boot of a band mates car with my board and bass and still have enough room to get other members gear in as well!!
That Tech cab sounds like a good bet. If it's not for you then you won't lose out in selling it on i suspect. RE the Schroeder questions on the previous page, they definitely don't put out a flat response. There is a well documented mid-hump which gives the cab (well, my 1221r anyway) a huge amount of grunt. On a noisy stage it's handy, especially if your drummer has an old, mid-heavy kit (the type made before drums were commonly mic'd up on everyday gigs). I used to have to really hammer my old Hartke stack to get the required volume, with the Schroeder i barely have to tickle the volume knob Some people on here say they lack bottom end but i don't find that, it is there and is quite impressive for a cab with all those drivers crammed into such a small space, but the mids are quite dominant unless you eq them out. The 1212r i have is perfectly capable of a clean, flat, modern sound - just eq to taste basically, same as you would with every other cab. When we had gigs with in ear monitors (ie when the drummer didn't hammer the cr@p out of his kit and i had loads of frequency spectrum to play with) i got, to my ears, a very modern and "hifi" sound. Really the idea is to try (ideally gig) the suitable cabs and pick the one you like the best. As this isn't always possible it's advisable to buy second hand as you won't lose money each time you sell on. Have a look at the FS section here If you can scrape together some more cash then have a look at this: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=114170 A bit over budget but you also get a 400w Markbass head in there, so it evens out! -
yeah been checking out the barefaced series, looks good just worried that an 8 ohm cab through a 300w into 4 ohm head won't be loud enough, may contact him and find out, it's gotta hang with 2 guitarists and a drummer and don't really want to spend more than £500, the schroeder looks good but can I get them in England, with all the import tax etc would end up costing a bomb!!
The Schroeders are 4ohm (and hella loud) and can be bought from SHX music: http://www.shxmusic.com/ Alternatively just wait until one comes up for sale on here, they appear quite often and go for about £350+ Shaun at SHX also sells the covers too which are handy -

lemmywinks replied to willyf87's topic in Amps and Cabs
A Schroeder 1212l will do the job, there's not many small, light one cab solutions if you play in a loud band with a heavy-handed drummer but my 1212r has always been more than enough. A Compact will also be worth a look, quite a few people on here use one on it's own Size is a big consideration for me, not just for transport but also for home storage A friend of mine gigs regularly with the Markbass 2x10 wedge combo, he loves it and it's replaced his big rig. That also will be worth trying as you'd have no head to cart around -
Seriously, is there any need for that?
Yes.

Can we start a petition to get Mark King's right arm amputated? Failing that just his thumb would do! Should i run away before the nuthuggers start crying?
woudnt touch an LDV if you paid me, youd spend more time waiting for the RAC/AA and thumbing for a lift to gigs
Our lwb deisel high-top lasted for years with minimal work, bought for £450 from the local auction! Most reliable van we had

He is cr@p though!
Watching those vids one after the other MK looks like he's thinking "Ha! I've got a thumb and you haven't. Look what I can do with it"
Technically speaking the other guy does have a thumb...
-
I decided to watch that one, but it was a right plodder. As for him "single handledly" owning Mark King, I don't think he quite does that...in any sense!
He owned him in the sense that i could actually watch the whole video without baulking at the 80s cheeser spoiling an otherwise harmless song. Bump your mids up, ease off the treble and ffs give that thumb a bloody rest! MK is a nice little fella from the interviews i've read but whenever he gets that thumb out - eeurgh!!!
-
The guy on the OP totally owning Mark King.....single handedly? (sorry!)
The worlds most expensive letraset with a cheapo bass attached?
Yep! Looks suspiciously like a Shine with a logo (and a few zeros) applied. The body shape, neck pocket and no-name pups (with 4 screws at each corner) all look like features i've seen on Shine/Chase etc. basses The original owner has left the country according to the listing, probably enjoying a nice holiday with the £4930 he made by flogging it to the eBay seller! Could be wrong though, might be a bargain!

Two things you'll need: 1 - A DI box or preamp/pedal with a DI out 2 - Decent monitors so you can hear youself I've happily done gigs like that before, some gigs i've done with proper audio companies doing the FOH the amp has been a token gesture. Just as well really as the biggest audio company round here thinks a knackered old Trace combo with a rattling grille and a dodgy power stage is a sufficient bass amp for outdoor festivals!
Hmmm... ditch the guitarists. Is it any wonder us bass players have so many back problems having to lug around twice as much gear as our guitar counterparts just to be heard, because they are a. Selfish b. Stupid C. Incapable of compromise. Any guitarist worth his weight in **** understands the importance of calving out his space in the spectrums of frequency AND amplitude.
+1 Nothing more annoying than "musicians" who insist on chasing their rockstar dreams by turning their new toys up too loud. Unless you're playing Wembley then a 10-30w valve combo is more than loud enough. Our old guitarist played a huge ballroom with an Orange Rocker 30 Maybe ask them if they'll buy you a few pairs of fitted earplugs costing a few hundred each every year to compensate? It may seem like you're being a killjoy but seriuously, tell them to use the knob marked "volume" in a counter clockwise direction for once. If they can't get "their sound" at lower volumes then they've bought the wrong kit, not you
-
Or, rather than cart all that gear around and go to all that trouble rigging it up, why not just flog it all and buy one capable, loud, efficient rig? These days a decent head with one sensitive cab (two tops) will shift enough to play with the loudest of drummers. Also tell you're guitarists to turn down! Just my2p EDIT: Poor spelling and grammar, tsk!

If it is the nut then you can do a temporary bodge by dropping a blob of superglue on there to build it up a bit. I've bought a few used basses where a previous owner has obviously wanted to string it with telephone cable and completely butchered the nut, fitting a new one isn't difficult and they're really cheap
