I've actually seen these in the flesh and quality doesn't look any better than the numerous cheapy PBass copies that float around on eBay, not rubbish (i never said they were - that was your word) but definitely a step down from the Arias/Westfields/Hohners etc i've played. Do a search on eBay for Bass Guitar, newly listed, BIN, price under £100 for examples of what you can grab if you're lucky. Keep checking it and it'll turn up a bargain soon enough - i got a German Warwick Fortress for £250 doing this. I also scored a Vintage V940 which needed fixing up for £50, when you take stuff like that into consideration the £90 one in the shop near me doesn't look particularly great. At £60 they are more attractive though.
 2.
Hard to say without playing one.... It certainly looks OK as a starter bass/mod project. I suspect that large headstock might make it a bit neck heavy. Just has a better look... it's half the original price. Alder body and maple neck!!! For sixty quid?!?!
Headstocks are skinnier than the Fender shape when you see them, the bottom bit doesn't go out as far and they're more streamlined. I'm not a fan of the shape though. If they did a Jazz in blue i'd have one for £60. I've only just made the connection with the "Ryder" branding too, took me a while!
 3. They have these in a charity shop near me, i pass it every day on the way to work. They have it in surf green which caught my eye. It's £90 in that shop though, can easy bag a better bass on eBay for that.
 4.
OK, just emailed Camden and told them that it's available from another supplier. They replied to say they'd phoned the other supplier and it won't be available until end of this week at the earliest. I called again and confirmed that it's in stock ready to ship, delivery tomorrow by FedEx. Emailed Camden to cancel order. Once cancellation is confirmed I'll reorder from the other place. Not impressed.
Prepared to lie in order to get a sale when they don't even have the goods, nice! Making damn sure i don't buy from these clowns in the future.
 5. Could be useful for some people, i have a tiny smartphone (Sony X10 MiniPro) and the default Android browser is fine, i don't mind zooming in and out as it's nippy. I've just noticed the app costs £3 so, in my finest Scottish accent, i'm out.
 6. I'd cancel the order and explain why. They're trying to sell items they don't have on stock, make sure you ring the other place to confirm they actually have it too, websites often have incorrect information on them. Chances are they're just giving you the 7-10 day line so you don't go elsewhere, it really annoys me when companies take money for goods they don't actually have.
 7.
Okay, there appears to be some disparity between this guy's self perception and his actual ability. It's possible he's delusional, in which case I wonder if its fair to have a ten page thread of posts making fun of him?
Sounds like some demon spirits you've got there, maybe i can ward them off with my huge divine sword? He is definitely delusional on a number of levels, however the entire thread wasn't about poking fun at him, it was about whether it's ok to tell him he's not a very good bass player on an online forum or not Have a read through the thread again, hardly any posts are poing fun at the guy. Maybe there's the odd chuckle at his unintentional comedy which stems from his arrogance/lack of ability. He's put some funny videos out there, it's ok to have a giggle at them.
 8. The blub on the left says: "JAXSN = INNOVATIVE BASS PLAYER. When jaxsn plays the bass, you hear sound like no other bass player, because Jaxsn's focus is to be an innovator, not an imitator. Currently Jaxsn Use his bass skills to ward off demon spirits, carry an entire praise servic" Track #3 sounds like a badly eq'd bass having an argument with a £10 Casio keyboard, it's ace!
 9. I got rid of all but one of my hard cases a while ago, used to have one for every bass but they take up so much room. Nowadays the only really expensive bass i have is my Zoot and that lives in it's hard case, the rest are bitsas that are on stands or in soft cases, my Warwick is kept in it's bag too. When gigging i usually take the Zoot in a hard case and my £45 backup Aria in a bag. I don't mind if the Aria gets knocked oved or marked up (it was like that when i got it) so i don't even use a stand.
 10. I think the blue stain looks lovely, better than all the gaudy CAR horrors people covet so much! Kinda like some of the Warwick $$ with coloured stains over the open grain
 11.
Oddly though even though he is arrogant and the epitome of self confidence on screen anyway. I don't think I have ever read or seen an interview where Gene has bragged about his Bass playing. I did laugh at the 2nd series of Rock school though, where the kids said Suzi Quattro was a better bassist
Yeah, Gene might have an ego (probably deserves it seeing as he's written loads of hit songs!) but i don't think he's under the impression that he's an innovative virtuoso - certainly he's never come across like that from what i've seen.
 12.
Coming very late to this thread and missing most of the discussion, to me it seems like a fairly decent idea, I can at least see how some (if not all) of the switching options would be useful. But could they not have come up with a better name? For a start, I absolutely hate that turn of phrase anyway, and secondly it's just pure hyperbole that's probably setting the product for a massive fall when it doesn't live up to its name. Just give it a sensible name and let it sell itself, if it's good enough people will go for it.
Plus the 1. I think if it had been designed and promoted in the UK by someone less of a knob than Sterling Ball it would be called a "wiring switch". Lets face it, this is an interesting gadget to have on a bass which, in the right hands and circumstances, may prove to be incredibly useful. There's already basses which offer a multitude of useful tones, more than you'd ever likely want to use on a gig - Warwick $$, G&L etc. Gamechanger? Totally unlocks my bass? Nah. Interesting concept? Most definitely.
 13.
If I was closer I'd probably have one.
Maybe he'll courier it? I'm gonna have to try and keep this thread away from Mrs. Lemmywinks. I wake up most mornings in the early hours with a mental cat sitting on my chest purring like a tractor engine, don't need any more!
 14.
I am simply at a loss to understand the barrage of negative comment relating to this guys playing.
Read my posts again. It's his attitude, not his playing. Have you watched his videos and read all his responses on the TB thread? It is completely wrong to ridicule somebody because they aren't proficient on any instrument (or in any hobby for that matter), however somebody who automatically assumes greatness and superiority is heading for a fall, no mater how good they are/aren't at whatever they are claiming to be amazing at. Are you seriously saying you have read his posts/watched the videos and you don't think he comes across as an arrogant berk who is totally unaware of his lack of ability? EDITED for unfinished sentence. Sorry but my keyboard has fluff in it, it hasn't been set up in a year and the keys are worn, also i've been using my new Logitech keyboard as it's so amazing, makes me develop more as i type. Could do with a new caps lock key though, might trade my sword of desire for one.... Praise the lawd!!!
 15.
I'll bow to your telepathic Psychological analytical power, or your in depth knowledge of the man or his music.
No worries, i'm glad you realise the error and didn't get sand in your vagina about it!
 16.
Delusion or desire to continue playing the bass? Kicking the SH1T out of some ones confidence, misplaced or other is going to do nothing for him as a player, or us as a community of musicians.
See the mistake you've made here is confusing confience with delusion. If he had confidence in his actual ability then there would be no thread about him, however the guy has confidence in abilities he just does not possess - that's delusion. IMO he should be told about it, not in the way some TBers have done (nobody deserves that, it's just plain rude) but he's already making an ass of himself on the www and if he doesn't take the blinkers off then it's only gonna get worse. If it were me i'd appreciate it. He should stop giving lessons and start getting some himself - that's what i'd do. Tbh some of the replies he's given on TB are so arrogant and so self appreciative that it's hard to like the guy, no matter what his playing is like. Even if he was a great player i'd struggle to put up with all his yapping about religion, desire and swords. The fact that he hasn't got anything like the skills to back it up just confounds the problem. As i've already said, the threads are really about what an ignoramus the guy is, not his awful playing.
 17. Fair point!
 18.
Ooh, thanks for that! I agree with Pat given the nature of Kenny G's appalling transgression of taste and decency regarding his necrophilia.
You do realise that everyone who reads that post and doesn't read the initial link now thinks that Kenny G is a very sick, disturbed man?
 19.
I actually think he is quite advanced, until he tries to pull those advanced techniques off... seems like his mind is ahead of his actual talent
Well, if someone clearly has difficulty with basic rhythm and melody then i'm inclined to think they're a learner level player. I watched a few of his videos and he doesn't really display any understanding of music in any context IMO. I mean i can see what he's doing, i just can't see any purpose behing all of those haphazard slaps and pops. Still, that's irrelevant as there's nothing at all wrong with being a beginner - i'm no great shakes but can play in tune and in time. It's the attitude of the guy - i appreciate that finding a TB thread with loads of people talking about how sh1t you are can't be nice but he does himself no favours. I think if he didn't big himself up then the thread wouldn't exist, therefore it's more to do with the guy himself rather than his ability.
 20.
I think a lot of people just like to criticize others to make up for their own shortcomings.
I think in the TB thread it was because the guy had a low level of fundamental ability coupled with an enormous ego. He genuinely thinks he's a very advanced player and in the posts he makes it's obvious he thinks he's a cut above the average gigging bass player. He mistakes this over-inflated sense of ability as confidence when in reality it's ignorance. He's a learner level bass player who thinks he's pro-level and he isn't shy of telling people that, it's easy to see why that becomes annoying and people turn against him.
 21.
I hope Alain Caron doesn't sign up on Basschat for instance
Can we still talk about Jeff Berlin's trainers? If you put a lame bass showpiece on Youtube and tell everyoe how good it is then there might just be a slim chance someone on an internet forum might link it for a laugh. Not saying he deserved the "that guy is a w@nker!" comments but his tuneless masterpiece is gonna get more detractors than fans. Just sayin...
 22.
Oh you get both options. Country and Western.
Funniest thing i've heard so far this year, excellent!!!
 23. I use a mix of obbm and homemade ones, all have Van Damme cable with Neutrik connectors. There's a lot of snake oil with cable marketing - you really don't need to spend any more than obbm's prices. His stuff is pro quality for a much lower price than equivalent branded cable.
 24. If it's one of the early ones it'll be made in the USA rather than China (probably, the cabs were). If so it's more desirable IMO.
 25. I use one of these: http://www.herculesstands.com/guitars/GS414B.html The grip mechanism broke after a while (still grips my bass, just doesn't automatically release it) but it's the most stable stand i've used. I don't like the mini types that don't grip the neck, no good for heavy basses or ones that are have assymetrical bottoms. The Ultimate Support one looks good too.
