Alex seems to think these are the small, light cabs most capable of handling a 500w amp. "The new Acme Low-B112, the new AudioKinesis TC112, the new Barefaced Big Baby and the barely any older Barefaced Midget. Notice a theme? There may be others too!" Again, not cheap! It's something i've been looking at recently, i use a Superfly with an EA CXL110e (with a Deltalite fitted) which is just about enough for practice. The EA will be joined by another super light 1x10 when i get round to building one so maybe that will be enough. I was wondering if there was a cab available that could do it all on it's own whilst still being tiny and featherweight, there is but i can't afford one! I thought about scoring a Schroeder 1212l as they're not much bigger than a 1x12 (one driver is angled), still a bit more than i have at the moment though.

The story i was told was that MEC were Warwick's in house take on EMG after they didn't want to pay EMG's prices, have no idea if it's true or not. Also everybody else seems to keep prices down, i really can't think of a reason why they're £70 apart from greed. Seriously, i reckon bringing it up on their forum might get you somewhere (a free pot?), especially as you've owned every bass they've ever made at some point.

I got one from Promenade Music a while ago, about £10-£15 for a proper one from Warwick. I'd give them a shout. If it's still so expensive then mention it on the Warwick forums, £70 for a pot is beyond belief!

Not that much, i don't think he's done too many interviews to my knowledge. He seems a bit leftfield in the was he creates music i think, which i like. He's put up the odd video on youtube (or someone else has for him), there was one linked here a while ago of him jamming with his new drummer. Tbh i watched the drummer more on that one as he was so good!

Yeah some of his work is inspired, some of it is a bit too much for me though. Great player and very down to earth. Great taste in basses too!

The STB i have is spot on, very well built, i paid £45 for it and one has just sold on here for £55. The Ryder is prob better for a neck swap mod as the STB has an irregular neck pocket. However the STB has a good stable neck so it's unlikely you'll want to swap it. I modded my Jazz with a tort plate, bridge and pickup covers and a tug-bar - looks the nuts. The Johnny Brook basses aren't standard size parts i don't think. Someone off here got one for modding and had a nightmare finding parts! I've been on the lookout for a Hohner JJ for modding, standard dimensions and very well built. My fretless has a Mighty Mite neck on and the pocket is tight as a nun's proverbial.

Well there won't be any more cheap German Warwicks now that the Corvette is being made in Korea, so German Warwicks will still be a premium (ie £1000+) bass. Making cheap basses that look the part certainly didn't do any harm to Fender! I'm a Warwick owner and i love these new Rockbasses, the things i didn't like about the old ones have been sorted and they look like absolute steals at those prices. Now is the time to snap all those cheap used German Corvettes up, they are going to be more sought after once they are no longer German made

Lovely bloke who i was dedicated to his job, we always chatted and still do when i see him about. However despite this we had to stop using them as they couldn't deliver on time. We paid for time specific services (9am, 12hr etc.) and they were consistently late. When you pay extra for 24hr delivery and it arrives 3 days later on a number of occaisions. When you ring to get a refund they make it very difficult, basically putting you off trying to claim. Their helpline is awful. We stopped using them and now use TNT who have been great. No late deliveries, no excuses and very helpful staff both in the vans and on the phone. However all that is irrelevant as this is a bass forum and they don't usually insure musical instruments - so there's absolutely no reason why anybody here should be using them. They will take as much money as you throw at them for insurance but your chances of a successful claim are slim. For that reason alone they are of no use to musicians.

I've never understood the whole willy comparison of "playing somebody under the table", for me it's all about expression and not note flurries. This is why some of Jaco's stuff towers above JB's playing, all IMO of course. I've never heard Jeff get particularly exquisite tones from a bass, ever. His playing isn't as moving as some of Jaco's stuff for me. FWIW i'm not a Jeff hater, i like listening to some of his output and he always has something interesting to say. One of those guys who you listen to when he talks, whether you agree with him or not (for whatever reason). I just don't understand why one guy has to be "better" at bass than another! Btw i scored Clive Barker's Jericho for £3 the other day!

Got to play one of the Teles today. I'd have to say it's definitely a £60 guitar in terms of fit and finish. The fretwork is poor - several high frets, lots of buzzing and choking - the first fret is particularly bad. Also the neck pocket has gaps although it's not shifting so is sound. Ferrules on the back aren't aligned and look sloppy. The neck will also need shimming as it's at an obvious upward angle - alarming considering the fret choking at the first few frets. Intonates ok after 10 minutes of adjustment. It's very frustrating as the fingerboard wood is stunningly figured, it honestly looks like something off a custom instrument. The hardware looks sound too, particularly the bridge saddles which seem better than the usual Tele fare. All in all it looks really nice (it's the white one btw). It needs a full set up and a fretdress, so still quite cheap all things considered but i do wonder what other corners have been cut and whether a used Squier would be a better bet - i think it would tbh. In terms of sounds, it sounds like a decent budget Tele. Not quite enough twang for me but still sounds cool through an old Yamaha 2x12 which has a sweet clean channel. The other mate who bought one is really happy with his, however i'll reserve judgement until i get my hands on it as he's notorious for buying p1ss poor guitars and raving about them! Still, even after playing it and noticing all the issues it has i'm thinking about getting one! Looks very classy, especially for the price.

Parcel Force see the case as external packaging and won't compensate for it. First mistake by the seller was sending the bass with the worst possible courier! Not how i'd ever ship a bass but some people think it's adequate - i received a pricey bass in just a case with a Porcel Farce sticker on it, no tape and it wasn't even locked. Just shows how different people have different expectations of couriers more than anything. The bass i bought was well looked after, mint condition in fact. Obviously the other BCer thinks the case was a bonus to protect it during shipping and no more, you saw it as part of the deal and bid accordingly (it looks like a nice enough case in the listing IMV). Now i see both sides of the story - and your pics - i think you have good reason to feel shortchanged as the case has been damaged during shipping. Seller negligence has spoiled a good case which you have paid for, not received free as a bonus.

Last time i looked on the Barefaced site the cabs were rated in that way, eg 'cab X is designed to be used with 300w-500w amps' etc. A practical way of doing things i think, might have changed it now though i've not been on it in a while. Prob for the best as i can't afford a cab at the moment!

And now what's the norm?[/quote] Totally understand, my days of huffing huge, heavy bass cabs and PA are long gone. My back is very appreciative of modern speaker and cab design! I always find it amusing that PA gear is basically at the forefront of speaker design and that's what we hear when we go to see a band, yet people are still hung up on buying 8x10 cabs because they see them on stage despite the fact that it's basically a monitor.

I tried a few 5ers and didn't get on with them at all. I bought a Warwick 5 string because i love their 4 stringers - hated the neck. One of the nicest 5ers i tried was a Stingray, also the OLP i owned was similar. Funny as i don't like Rays as 4 stringers! I'm much more picky with 5 string necks but can feel comfortable on any 4 stringer. I guess with 5ers and 6ers things like neck width, shape and string spacing are more critical as more adjustment has to be made. As with anything, buy used and sell on if you don't like it.

The fit and finish looks decent, at least this one has been built by someone who can actually use a router. Ugg-er-lee shape IMO, still a country mile away from some of the horror stories flagged up recently. That fretless is still giving me nightmares.
