1. Haha, fair play. It was done by an old guy who still wanted to gig the bass but couldn't deal with the weight. That's probably more important than having a mint 100% original relic for some collector to keep in it's case in some warehouse in Slough.
2. Nice looking bass though.
3. It has a Jazz bass "Offset Contour Body" decal on. Hmmmm.............
4.
I hope for your sake that it's not accepted.
Nah they rejected my offer. A bit rude i think as £4 each is a perfectly fair price for these. I've slung in a slightly higher offer of £6 each to try to tempt them but that's as much as i want to pay.
5.
I reckon I know what the majority of posts will say though
True, but there's a good reason for it! If you are able to solder then make your own - Neutrik jacks and Van Damme cable are cheap and pro quality, it's surprising how much shop-bought cables using these components cost. If you can't solder then i might as well get the ball rolling by suggesting obbm on here (or his site bassic bits). He'll knock you up pro quality cables for very reasonable prices. No-nonsense, high quality cable that everybody can afford.
6.
I often see 'Please Delete' written in FS thread. There was one last night as you know, hence this thread
I've always done that, i thought it was the rules.
7. Well, i've just made them a very nice offer for both of the basses, lets see what they have to say!
8. The Bass Doc is selling an EMG P/J set for £80, just get them! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=125732
9. Wow, what a beast of a cab for the money!
10. I have an ebony board my my main fretted bass, very nice but not miles away from a good rosewood board. I don't think it make much difference on a fretted bass, looks beautiful though. It's not much like the ebanol board on the fretted Curbow i had, nor on my fretless Mighty Mite neck. Ebanol feels different to wood, again moreso on a fretless, but still a very nice playing surface which stands up to roundwounds and my cumbersome playing. It's pointless comparing fretboard woods unless they're on the same bass (or at least two identical basses) as there's so many other variables some of which have much more impact on the tone.
11. IIRC they had a few decent session names using them back in the day too, a lot of amp for the money.
12. The Delta range are really good heads, have a bump! Had the pleasure of using one a while ago, had a monster sound. Was even better when i heard it's owner playing through it from FOH, proper bargain i reckon.
13. Aye, FWIW i think this bass should be "worth" more but people really aren't putting proper values on Warwicks at the moment. A value put on something by the seller is pretty useless if people aren't prepared to pay it. The blue Fortress that was listed here recently went on eBay and didn't sell even though the start bid was £350. That's pretty scary stuff - a mint, genuine 90s wenge-necked Warwick in a rare colour (quite a rare model too) failing to make new Squier CV prices. Take his fees off that and he'd have got just over £300 for it - if it had sold that is. It's such a shame that so little value is placed upon such great instruments but there's not a lot that can be done about it at the moment.
14. Btw have you tried it on the Warwick forum? Very friendly place and, rather surprisingly, they like buying Warwicks!
15. It's actual value IS what people are prepared to pay though, if you think it's worth more then don't sell. Keep an eye on eBay to get an idea of what they're selling for and keep in mind that you'll get hefty fees from eBay and Paypal. I always sell cheaper on here anyway, i've had so many other good deals from really great people and that's how i like it. It's such a crap time to be selling a Warwick that i don't blame you for being so annoyed at the prices are willing to pay and their attidudes to parting with money. It's a bad time to sell any bass and people are more reluctant than ever to part with a serious wedge of cash, particularly if they have seen a similar item go substantially cheaper elswehere. The situation is that you have a relatively common bass which has had repairs (even though this has no bearing on the stability of the instrument) and are trying to sell it at a time when everybody is cutting back on their spending and that particular brand is fetching all time low prices on the used market. If i were you i'd keep it, unless you're desperate to sell. Warwick prices can't stay this low forever, now is the time to buy IMO - i just wish everybody else thought that! Absolutely stunning bass btw.
16. Great stuff, many thanks! Already downloading and printing the Reading and Technique PDFs, gives me something to get stuck into at home.
17. Should be a standard 1/16 for a BBOT i think. I think some bridges require different sizes though. I just buy the massive sets, cheap enough and you've got everything covered.
18. Get some pics up! What else does it say on the headstock? Is it Marlin, Hohner Pro, Rockwood?
19.
My stack has, on occasion sported a (big) sign saying; "I am not a beer stand. Nor am I something to lean against" Next pillock that puts a beer on my electrics gets me throwing a 3-bar fire into his bath whilst he is bathing to demonstrate the principle. (I have issues with people putting drinks on amps. Should carry a death sentence.)
I had a drummer who used to do that, until i started putting my pint on his snare and floor tom skins.
20. Thing is with those leads with the mute switch is that if the bass holder can't be arsed to unplug the lead from the amp first they're not gonna bother with a switch on the lead either. When we used to have a young support band for pub gigs i tried to educate the bass player - press the tuner footswitch before you unplug. He didn't and he used my gear exactly once. As i said in the last thread on this subject, ask for a deposit and drill the pack down routine into them. If they don't get it, refuse to pay a deposit or take the piss then simple - they bring their own amp. It's tiring when you work hard and have a pro rig only for every other bassist to dump their practice amps and plug straight into yours thinking they know it all.
21.
Take care to note that this member is Jakebass, NOT Jakesbass who is a highly esteemed member and professional bassist and teacher. It's easy to confuse the two, indeed I did briefly when I first joined and read the Vampyre thread.
Very good point! So remember: Beard and double bass = good. Emo with angry parents = bad.
22. Someone's stuck a bid on it! I bet it goes for more than the BIN, especially if the seller decides to post.
23.
As a Bass Player who also does P.A. Hire and Engineering, I've lost count of the number of times I could have been legless, when fellow Bass Players have wanted to buy me Beer after a Gig, because I got 'their sound' front-of house. Even other Band Members, Audience members and even Management have asked me what I had done differently, because "the whole Band sounded better than last time." Until the General Music Community (and Joe Public) realises exactly what difference a decent Bass sound makes, you'll just have to get on with it.
In my last band most of the engineering was done by our guitarist who was a professional AV fella and an ex-bass player who loved Stevie Wonder songs. Suprisingly i never had a problem with getting a good FOH bass sound! It actually pains me to see bands sounding cr@p live when there's an engineer there, the last few bands i've seen at the only decent venue in my town have all sounded either incomprehensibly muddy or weak and bass-light. What's the point in paying somebody to engineer a gig if they have such a poor understanding of what makes a good live mix?
24. The only way i'd ever do an overseas purchase with a new member is if i got the goods/money first. I have done this before with a guy who only joined to buy my bass and he was a top bloke, everything went smoothly and i had the money in my account before i sent the bass. I suppose another way is to get a "bagman" - another basschatter who can take the money and delivery of the bass - who can then distribute those to the relevant parties. If you wanna find out about the potential pitfalls of trading overseas through forums then do a search for "Jakebass Vampyre" on here or the Warwick forum. In fact the Warwick guys also had another conman who juiced a member out of a few k not so long ago.
25.
Just found this on the bay of E http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dean-custom-shop-5-s...=item27b33b0339 Interesting how they don't show the arm cut out in the close ups.
That bass is the DB95, active 5er with gold hardware. It retailed for £400 so the seller is possibly being a little optimistic with the price tag. It's also not a "custom shop", it's a Korean bass. Kinda think he's trying to mug someone into buying what they think is a USA custom instrument in that listing. One thing to note with these basses is the inlays which, although they look impressive from a couple of metres away, are quite sloppily done and look cheap close up.
