My music teacher at high school had one of those, lovely looking basses. I seem to remember the brass nut was goosed and the E string slipped off occaisionally. In fact i think that was the first bass i ever played, maybe my love of natural thru-necks runs pretty deep!

after you've fixed it get a Speakon lead, much better option IMO

Dunno how the new Ashdown thingy will sound compared to your existing amp though, their previous micro heads don't really retain brand identity in that respect. Have you considered taking it out of the casing and mounting it in a rack bag? Will make it much more manageable than carrying it in a bulky case, even just as a temporary measure till you find a micro head you like.

What cabs were they? Don't think i've ever heard that description attributed to Markbass before! Still, horses for course and all that

Why do we need an Entwhistle signature anyway? He played about a million basses! Like Waldo said, just some people making a few bob off grandad's name. If they didn't do it now then Entwhistle's great great grandkids would do it years down the line, the money is there to be made. It's amazing the amount of "signature" equipment that has sprung up years (decades even) after the artists' death. I have a Jimi Hendrix strap (bought cheap cos i needed a strap), my mate has a Hendrix signature Digitech pedal (it's cr@p). I don't think he'd touch either if he were around today! Same story with these Deans i reckon.

Apparently they don't deliver the performance of a trad dual driver cabinet whilst being as heavy and expensive. Basically they offer no benefits over a single driver cab. That could have been their defining amp, the one thing that made them stand out as innovators. The digital front end on that amp still impresses me and i wonder why other amp manufacturers don't do something similar. We all like buttons and flashy lights after all! Maybe they thought the name/design had too much stigma after the quality issues. I also think they could have got someone a little better prepared for the interview. It sounded like their rep had just read the back of the amp box prior to filming and decided to wing the rest with some old cliches and baseless claims.

If you do find somewhere that'll sell a single Hi Beam G then could you let me know please? I had one break on me straight away, not playing hard either it just went on our 2nd song. Kinda put me off the brand tbh as i don't expect a suspect batch when paying that much for strings. Seeing as i have 3 almost new strings i could do with a replacement G! Cheers!

"?[/quote] An idea i had was to draw round the neck heel and scan it on a PC so you can email it to people for them to print out and check. I got some parts together last year with the idea of making a few bitsas. Out of 3 bodies and 4 necks only one lot fitted together snugly, even then i had to do make some minor adjustments. Can be a bit of a minefield!

Not much help but when you come to rewire the bass (if you haven't already) then it might be an idea to have a look at the Ryder too. Mine has a pretty horrible and messy wiring job and isn't something i'd gig. In fact i'd go as far to say it was some of the worst soldering i've seen in a long time! Might as well do both if you've got the soldering iron and wire snips out! While we're on the subject of bridges, don't discount the cheapys off eBay. I fitted one of the Schaller 3D copies to my Jazz bitsa and it's surprisingly good, much chunkier than the usual fare and still under £15 delivered. The BC marketplace is unlike anything i've ever encountered before, it's like walking into my ideal music shop only everything is on a half price sale!

I'd also add that what works with my rig (and more importantly drummer and his kit) might not work for yours. I found the EBS drive pedal pretty much gutless when i used it, yet my mate has exactly the same pedal (we even A/B tested them at one point!) and loves it in his rig. The only way to know if a pedal works for you live is to gig it. Fortunately buying and selling pedals on here is quick and cheap with almost no losses as pedals retain their values quite well, so it's also a fun process too! If you're after a top distortion then i'd also look at the Bogdan Helter Skelter and the Owen Bass Gremlin, i really liked both of those, particularly the Owen. I've also been looking for a Carl Martin bass OD but they're quite pricey when they come up.

Well they're totally different pedals really so a comparison isn't that useful. I used to have the Blowtorch, really nice pedal with a good variety of fuzz sounds. Does a synthy, buzzy fuzz really well, i imagine it would be good for Muse type stuff. I could also get a really good, heavy Muff sound out of it at home but it was lost against our old drummer, it struggled to compete with his loud, mid-heavy kit and sounded a bit gutless despite lots of fiddling with the eq. I'd like to try it again although it is a pain to power (18v supply). The M80 is a different beast, it's a distortion with a switchable 3 band EQ and a DI. It's been on my pedalboard sonce i bought it ages ago. The drive is great, really ticks all the boxes for me and i'd use this pedal if this was all it did, indeed the drive is the main reason i bought it. One of the only Distortion pedals i've used that retains all the cut and low end from the clean signal, so you can switch it in without going overboard on volume. By that i mean it sounds like a distorted version of the source, rather than an over-processed sound that smothers the original signal. The blend knob is the key to this pedal i think.
