1. I bought a Westfield P for about £50 a while ago, came with a decent gigbag, tuner, quality stand, strap and lead too! Was impressed for the price, i had originally intended to use it for parts but i played it for a bit and sold it on. The two tone sunburst was particularly well done, nothing really stood out but then again there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. Just a good sturdy bass that i wouldn't hesitate to gig with if i needed to.
2.
Can't find anything that goes through the very tiny hole and actually does anything..
3. Also if you still want loads of volume on tap there quite a few lightweight compact cabs that get very loud indeed. Have a look at that Genz, you'd probably benefit getting in touch with Mr. Claber too and explaining your situation and what you need from a rig.
4. It's got a hole in the back, that's ok though because he "finks" it's so it can be converted into a semi acoustic.
5. Downsizing isn't downgrading, far from it, I don't think anyone gigging Berg cabs for instance would consider your gear an upgrade! There's a plethora of compact, immensely powerful and fantastic sounding rigs out there. The choice nowadays is great, lots of brands have lightweight, compact gear on offer. Big stacks are fun, i used to love having a full rig at gigs, but i eventually got sick of having to store it and move it. Not to mention having to cart it up stairs at 4am after a gig and the long motorway journey home!
6.
I want a 1x12 cab but there appears to be some confusion as to whether amps/cabs are included? Plus the missus will kill me!
Funnily enough i was just drooling over this before reading this thread: http://www.bassgear.co.uk/products-page/ba...e-12-enclosure/ Tempting!
7.
The tension is low, not as low a TI's but a fair bit under what I'd call standard tension for rounds. Peter donated that neck to me to "experiment" on - the bumps are now gone. I might bung it on a body soon and see if they come back.
Cheers, might have a gander at those. I've preferred Elites rounds for years so spending £30+ on strings just seems a bit unnatural for me. I think i'm getting more stingy with age! You wanna whack that neck on eBay - "Neck for a 1968 Leo Fender bass with original tuners"!
8.
The MXR Blowtorch is fairly unique sounding, well designed with its EQ options, and combines well with modulation effects to sound synthy, but IMO the 18v power requirement is a PITA, and it doesn't get heavy enough (or clean up enough) to be useful.
I found that too. It sounded really monstrous at home but didn't do the business with a loud drummer, no matter what i did. I'd like to try one again with our current drummer as i reckon the fuzzed up mids would get through more, it just sounded a bit polite the first time though. Back to the OP, the 2 fuzz pedals i use are a black Russian Muff and a ZVex Mastotron. Both are my idea of what bass fuzz sounds like but in slightly different ways, since buying the Mastotron i've not bought another fuzz pedal, not for everyone but give one a go. I got a bit frustrated with pedals which didn't retain low end but the 3 way switch on the Mastotron does the job - just set it to 3!
9. Oh and Rich, what sort of Tension are the Hotwire flats? My SR is fine with the strings i've thrown at it so far, just a bit nervous about putting higher tension strings on it after Greene King's neck issue.
10. One other thing i noticed when swapping pups on mine was that the holes for the 4 pickup screws were pretty wildly drilled. I mean like someone had done it blindfold! Again it's a simple job to correct, might be something to do with the slightly wonky pup?
11.
It's his item to sell or not to sell. If he doesn't want to, what are you going to do about it ? Pay him by Paypal and he can just refund you. As I say, it' is his amp, not Ebay's.
Completely wrong i'm afraid, both legally and morally. He's listed it as an auction and the OP has won it with the highest bid. The seller has entered a contract by listing it under set conditions and letting the auction run it's course. The seller has offered it for sale and it has sold, no questions. Sometimes you have to do the decent thing and take the hit, instead the seller has extorted money from the OP in a "pay me extra or don't get the amp" kind of way. Although it was settled amicably it's still out of order in my book, still it's not my money and the OP is happy. I'd have told the seller to f**k off personally, reported them to eBay and given them stinking feedback. Just like i have done with every other dishonest eBay seller i've encountered. I'm fully aware the seller is also a member on here, but this is a poor show. He owes the OP the difference between the two sale prices, end of.
12. Oh and the white with black pg looks sweet btw! Had a jam with mine tonight with my lodger, hopefully practice is on next week after a fortnight of cancellations so i'll get to hear it in a band situation then.
13. When i got mine the bridge was misaligned, when i moved it i took the opportunity to move it back a bit too. This way the saddles can be moved forward and the break angle for through-body stringing is much better. At some point i'm going to get better ferrules, fill the existing holes and re-drill. Then again i might not bother, it was £60!
14.
Calling me a lair like? I'm not talking snipping the ends off and fannying about - I'm taking about getting it on and tuned up and off you go. Maybe I'll have to make a yootoob to prove it. Taking 5 minutes to put one string on in my book IS completely unprofessional.
Yeah i keep a full matched set of old strings in each bass case/gigbag i have, changing a string and tuning up for me would take a minute or two as the replacement string came off that exact bass. With a Warwick it would be quicker, could probably do that in a minute as that ball ends just slot into the anchor plate. Still unprofessional though!
15. It's unprofessional because a dancefloor can clear in the time it takes to change a string. It's surprising how little time people are prepared to stand still with no music playing whilst everyone else in the building looks at them! I suppose you could always do a song with a long guitar intro to keep the flow going, but what's worse - bringing another bass or having to play Alright Now?
16.
We now have a pro guitar player and his professionalism has rubbed off on me in a good way. Firstly I had to get my act together musically, but I also now carry a spare amp as well as a spare bass to all gigs.
I'll always remember the learning curve when i first started working with a pro sound engineer who played guitar for us. PA pack down took a fraction of the time and all our leads were immaculately coiled and carefully stored, everybody had spares wherever practical. Having to interrupt the set because of prior negligence or laziness made him scowl! I still do things exactly the way he taught me regarding looking after equipment and how to ensure your night goes without a hitch.
17.
If all you are scared of is snapping a string then presumably a spare set of strings would (to carry your argument further) take up significantly less room than a whole bass?
If you're getting paid to play then the least you can do is take a cheap bass you can grab after the song ends, in my view anything else is unprofessional - apart from nailing the entire gig without an E or A string of course, that'd be pretty professional! I've been in the situation before where we've had to have a break for someone to change a string. Not fun, looks amateur and clears the dancefloor - 3 things i don't like on gig night!
18. Mine (Aria Jazz) doesn't resemble my main bass (Zoot Custom) at all. The whole point of a backup is a cheapy that i can leave propped up against a wall and pick up if i break a string or something goes wrong with my bass. All it has to do is intonate and make a bass sound, the rest can be sorted. The last thing i want to do is cart another flightcase around and worry about another expensive bass, so the Aria goes in it's gigbag and if it goes walkies i can replace it for £50 or so. As it happens it's a lovely bass which sounded great on the few occasions i've gigged it. In fact once i played a function on the Aria and left the expensive Zoot playing backup!
19. My dark blue one has a black scratchplate, it was either that or dark tort. Bear in mind a dark pg will look odd with the white pup cover though
20. Get on joinmyband and similar sites, explain your situation. If you're using practice rooms there's usually rig you can play through anyway, most important thing is to get out there and get playing, preferably with a decent drummer, good luck!!
21. I don't get amp GAS either, or bass GAS really. I do get GAS for cabs though. Weird!
22. Nice, the neck-through stripe look weird on a BO bass though. Good price anyways, not something you see everyday. Corvettes look really strange in those Fender-shaped cases too!
23.
Just been thinking about this and I suspect a DeltaLite II 2512 could work well, as the Qts and Vas are high which gives a slightly annoying bump in a ported cab but will stop it sounding too thin in a TL cab. Shipping a driver from the USA will be pricey. Local reconing is another option and that would allow you to keep the tweeter, if they have a close enough cone/voicecoil match.
Blue Aran currently have the Deltalite on sale too, £65 down from £99: http://www.bluearan.co.uk/index.php?id=EMI...semode=category Could be a cheap option to get a nice, high end lightweight cab. I used the 10" Deltalite in my CXL110, sounds excellent. I got the idea from this TBer who used the same driver: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f127/ft-bag-...l-110-a-680423/
24. That's quite a bit less than they wanted to charge me for the 10" version! Dunno what to make of it really, it would have made me consider getting the Whizzy driver as i paid about £80 for the Eminence including shipping. Ah well, suppose it doesn't matter now! I would add that although it might seem a lot for an empty box, that same empty box with a speaker in fetches a decent amount of money. These were very expensive when new and still command high prices, the only issue here is the availability of the original proprietary driver These cabs are extremely well made too, i was very impressed when i looked inside my EA cab, absolutely top end construction.
25. When i got quoted for a replacement Wizzy driver a few months ago it was much more expensive, thats for the 10" version too. The price was $231.08 with a 20% discount from EA. After that you have to pay shipping from USA unless you can get it in the UK. The price i got quoted for the recone kit was $80, plus shipping again from USA. Then there would be the actual repair bill as i was told (by members on here) that it's not an easy job and needs to be done by a professional. Don't mean to undermine the seller or the thread (i'll delete any of this on request if you think it's inappropriate btw), i'd just double check with EA that they haven't got the prices of drivers and recone kits mixed up. FWIW when i fixed my CXL i just used a compatible neo driver, cheapest option and made the cab a fraction of the weight. Might be an idea to contact EA regarding readily available suitable drivers. I used a Deltalite, the original drivers are custom Eminence units apparently. EDIT: That's for the 10" driver /\ /\ /\, no idea what will be suitable for this cab.
