Well they're totally different pedals really so a comparison isn't that useful. I used to have the Blowtorch, really nice pedal with a good variety of fuzz sounds. Does a synthy, buzzy fuzz really well, i imagine it would be good for Muse type stuff. I could also get a really good, heavy Muff sound out of it at home but it was lost against our old drummer, it struggled to compete with his loud, mid-heavy kit and sounded a bit gutless despite lots of fiddling with the eq. I'd like to try it again although it is a pain to power (18v supply). The M80 is a different beast, it's a distortion with a switchable 3 band EQ and a DI. It's been on my pedalboard sonce i bought it ages ago. The drive is great, really ticks all the boxes for me and i'd use this pedal if this was all it did, indeed the drive is the main reason i bought it. One of the only Distortion pedals i've used that retains all the cut and low end from the clean signal, so you can switch it in without going overboard on volume. By that i mean it sounds like a distorted version of the source, rather than an over-processed sound that smothers the original signal. The blend knob is the key to this pedal i think.

When i needed a spares i just rang up, their contacts page is here: http://www.samsontech.com/main/misc.cfm?pageID=6 I'd imaging a quick email to the Hartke support would get you what you wanted, they don't seem to give a UK phone number now but they were really helpful when i rang.

Sounds like a good dealt to me!!! Looks very similar to mine, really nice basses although when i'm done with mine it'll only be the body that's original.
Dinky Doom.
I don't think you quite understand the concept of a mini rig! We used to run one of those power amps in our rack as a monitor amp, heavier than my entire rig! Dubs that homebuild is interesting, did you design it yourself? Looks nice and deep like a TC
My old "mini stack" I went off SS after that so had to go for something a bit chunkier.
That's ace! Are those tens or twelves? There's something about the little EA cabs that really appeals to me, can't quite put my finger on it. I'm very tempted to buy the damaged CXL112 on here and stick a Deltalite in it, but then my mini rig would be bigger than my main rig!
I personally think £1500 is a bit high, especially given the condition. Having said that - if you put it on ebay and 2 people want it, then it could sail past that. OTOH, you might only reach £800ish.
This is more accurate, although the sunburst is more desirable than the natural one. When i sold mine (natural Artist '77) it had a slightly bent tuner and was heavily marked around the fingerboard and edges (relic'd!). All the electrics were fine as was the neck. Stuck it on eBay with a start bid of £600 and didn't get a single bid. Sold it later for about £500. However i've seen them get well over £1500, just depends on who's after one at that time really. I think i could have got a few hundred more for mine in different circumstances.

Anyone here play and gig with an acoustic bass?
lemmywinks replied to Linus27's topic in Bass Guitars
I occasionally use a fretless acoustic strung with TI flats and mic it. It sounds like a DB. I can't see the point of using an acoustic with on-board electrics, you might as well use an electric (my Precision does a woodier tone than a lot of acoustics, and a lot of acoustics I've played sound very harsh through the onboard electrics, and that includes some expensive ones)
Mine just has a cheap piezo with passive vol and tone, sounds excellent when cleanly amplified. Like i said i roll the tone completely off, very good DB sound with black nylons on. Definitely sounds different to any electric i own. I prefer it to most of the ones with an active pre and all that gubbins, just sounds great as it is -
Anyone here play and gig with an acoustic bass?
lemmywinks replied to Linus27's topic in Bass Guitars
I've had mine for ages now (about 12 years) and it's seen a few gigs and loads of jams. De-fretted and strung with black nylons it's lovely, such a different (read better) instrument now than it originally was with frets and bronze strings, although decent bronzes are nice to play. I always roll the (passive) tone right off, quite a convincing DB impression. I don't see it as gimmicky at all, it's a really useful instrument IMO. I've thought about buying a more expensive "better" one but then it'd never make it to beach parties and barbeques! -
Hartke 410 XL 400 watt cab NOW SOLD
lemmywinks replied to bassfunk's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Ah, my old cab! Also worth a mention that it's the old USA made one, IMO much better made than the more recent Chinese ones. These were expensive cabs when new! Cover is also excellent quality and would set you back £35+ if bought seperately so a lot of cab for the money. Looks like it's in the exact same condition as when i sold it too! -
The LG were out for a couple of years ask around how many people are still using them, I wonder why as they sound pretty good............
That's it i think. I actually really like the sound of my Superfly and it gets daily use (it's my practice and rehearsal head). If Ashdown had got it right and not compromised on the design and build then it would be such a great little amp. Unfortunately the LG have had the same reports of flimsy controls and weak mismatched preamps, shame really as they represent a missed opportunity to get a little lightweight head at entry level prices. Has anyone used these yet? Surely if the PA fails then it's gig over? Unless the singer goes through the bass amp.... I think we're getting away from what the OP asked. His situation is that he is filling in on bass for a friend's band and is looking for a temporary solution. If they have a suitable PA then it's totally fine, in some cases preferable, to not have a bass amp and just DI.
Find yourself a decent cheap, small amp. A DI box is a good backup plan or if you can be sure of every gig you'll play, but I bet there's not one person on here that's gigged regularly and hasn't needed an amp at some point. Turning up to a gig without an amp is unprofessional and will quickly earn you a bad rep if you do it without good warning. If you're not going to get an amp, at least make it very clear before every gig that you won't have one with you to the promoter and other bands that may lend you gear. I don't let bands use my gear at gigs unless it's all organised before hand, even if it means they don't have an amp (the last gig I played where both the other bands showed up without an amp, they both ended up using a small combo and blacklisted from the venue). If someone can't be bothered to shoot me some contact asking about it, I can't be bothered to lend out my gear.
Well, not really. Silddx doesn't use an amp, but then all the gigs he plays have proper setups with adequate monitoring - i class "adequate" as fully capable of handling bass btw, not just vocals and a bit of kick. It's not unprofessional at all, if you know you have good enough monitors you can completely do away with an amp. I guess less people are in that position, hence needing a bass amp for monitoring and in some cases an addition to (or the bulk of) FOH. The OP wasn't talking about cadging or borrowing gear, he was talking about using the gear they have to omit a bass amp.

Some people have found that the LG heads have the same problem as the Superfly regarding the mismatched pre and power sections. A recent thread over on Finnbass (very interesting, check it out) shows that with a boost of some sort in the effects loop even the 350w can be a decent amp with enough volume. Still quiet for it's rating though apparently. I'd rather go for the 1000 if i had to choose though. Also bear in mind that although the 350 works like a traditional one-sided amp (350w @ 4ohms), the 1000 is 2x500w @4ohms each. That said, £350 will bag you a used LMII and around £250+ will get a used LM250, so there is choice at that sort of price range. Tbh i don't think Ashdown have really got the micro head thing right yet, still trying one out is the only way to know for sure. I'd go with a used LMII personally as it has bags of power and is a bargain second hand, also ultra-reliable.

Simon was only joking, we all love amps (i covet amps and cabs much more than basses) and i always prefer to have my bass rig there behind me. I dunno why as my MXR does a cracking job and i always DI from it anyway. I guess my preferred monitor is my bass rig!
-
As long as you have decent monitoring then it's an ideal situation. Nothing to carry! If your monitors are just for vocals then you won't be able to hear yourself. Amps aren't actually needed nowadays, we just like 'em!

Ah, thanks again! Yeah it was originally used in Schroeder 4x10 cabs, i got it unused for a very good price with a view to making a little light 1x10. It's going to be used with another little 1x10 and only with one side of a Superfly so it's not going to be pushed hard at all, just something to use as another practice cab. I think i'll be getting the ply quite cheaply through a colleague, the covering is free from work and i already have quite a few parts knocking around, so if it doesn't sound satisfactory i haven't lost much.

Cheers Lawrence! I'm just using the bog standard WinISD i downloaded ages ago, i'll get the other one. What are the differences? I have got the file pretty much done, was just short of the Sd value. Ta Steve

Is that one of the isobaric cabs? What's it like?

I love tiny little rigs and am always interested in seeing what can be done with stupidly small bass rigs - ie micro heads and 1x10 or 1x12 compact cabs. I put this setup together a while ago after using my Superfly with another small cab. It's tiny, loud enough for practices and weighs next to nothing. It comprises: Ashdown Superfly - £199 new EA CXL110c with Deltalite - About £200, off here and Blue Aran Obbm 50cm Speakon cable - £8 off here So watcha got? Anyone gig a minature rig regularly?

Hi I'm going to get down to constructing another mini lightweight cab as the weather is getting a bit warmer and could do with a little bit of help. The driver i am using is a Celestion BN10-300s, the 4ohms version. I have got most of the specs for use in WinISD but have a few questions: - What is the Z value? EDIT - Ohmage? - How do i find the SPL and Z? I understand that SPL at least is pretty essential for modelling bass drivers and they both feature on the frequency/impedance graph, but how do i find the actual values to input into WinISD? Also: - What are the Pe and Sd? EDIT - Is Pe the power rating (w)? Still can't find Sd though - Is the "diameter" the voice coil or driver diameter? EDIT - I assmue the driver? I also understand that Celestion don't use the same methods to get the specs for their drivers, so their values aren't comparable to other drivers. I assume this will be a problem when trying to model the cab? Cheers! Steve
