Consider a used Fender Rumble 500 v3 head with a Barefaced One 10. Tiny package with a huge sound and great range of tones. Even better would be to build yourself a Beyma 1x12 cab designed by Phil Starr & Stevie. (Take a look at the Easy 12" build thread).Those Beymas are monsters.

I owned a Micro VR head and delivered a great Ampeg sound in a small package. Only used with 8-Ohm cabs as I read somewhere that it didn't like running at 4-Ohm. Great looking vintage vibe.

Recently purchased a 32ins flat wound set from Pestie and I'm really pleased with their performance. I normally use Fender 9050ML flat wound strings on all my other basses and the Status flat wound strings appear to be brighter than the Fender without loosing any bottom end thump.

Are you planning to remove the fretboard overhang to make the neck appear more authentic?

Hi Andy, Just about to start a new Bitsa project and I wish to wipe-on gloss varnish to the Head, front & back of the neck. The neck I have purchased is a maple, satin finished J neck from K***e in China. What hard glaze wipe-on would you recommend to achieve a good covering of the water slide decal on the head? Do I need to mask off the frets when applying the gloss varnish to the fret board or is best to just gloss varnish the face of the Head as the MIM Fender jazz necks?

Why not try a DiMazio Split P lots of power with a huge range of tones, and maybe add a ZiOgon loom. Job done!!

No there are short scale slot head EB3s. I have a 1969 walnut Gibson slot head EB3, handsome deep, deep booming sound with a variety of tones from the 4 position selector switch. Bought new in 1970 while working at the Sound Centre in Cardiff.

I have just ordered a Jess Loureiro 51 P split coil PUP for a new Bitsa project and I was wondering if anyone knew where I could source a Plastic cover to fit over the Pickup? The body for the project is an over sized Telecaster Guitar shape and I wanted to keep the appearance as simple as possible. I have a habit of resting my thumb on the PUP body on my P basses and I wanted some sort of plastic cover to protect the Jess Loureiro PUP from damage. The last resort is to fit a Jazz Bass chrome PUP cover as it is narrower than the 51 P PUP cover or standard P PUP cover. Anyone have any solutions? Thanks

I wonder if any Line 6 employees are following all the commentary on this thread? I wonder if Line 6 develop a BASS version of their Power Cab? Could be interesting for all the Helix users to have a matching Power Cab. Just saying!

Amazing, handsome looking bass with fantastic sound a job WELL DONE! Just to confirm the pickup model you used was the "Franken-Tele bass Twin coil 11K Ohm" correct? What magnets & footwork did you specify?

Next time you try the Fender Rumble 500 head make sure you start with the Overdrive OFF. Start with everything flat, all EQ knobs at 12:00 o'clock. IMO the Rumble has quite a broad pallet of fine bass sounds on tap and you should be able to find something that pleases you.

Good value for money for home or small venue use is the Mackie Thump 12A . Around £300 new.

+1 for repainting with Tuff cab acrylic. I've built two BassChat 1x12 cabs and Tuff cab works really well. Take a look at the Basschat 1x12 build thread as there are some fantastic results from various builders. The blue ones from "Gottastopbuyinggear" (I think) are awesome. A tin goes a long way and you'll have plenty left for future touchups.

Me too, the spaghetti logo is just right. But there again that's the problem with being a Valley Boy Fender Fanboi. (Merthyr valley where Man started! )
