+1 for Tech21 VT Bass as the simplest most straightforward method of "warming" up any amp. For a little more control maybe add a Thumpinator & Spectracomp.

Heft is in the ear of the beholder!

Maruszczyk flatwounds. What are they like?

Watching this one. -
I have for sale a Fane Sovereign 12-500LF 500w 8ohm speaker. Used gently for prototyping while building a Bass Chat 1x12 Mark 1 cab. Please check the Fane site for the spec as this is the "LF" version which has a response of 38Hz to 5kHz @-6dBs, a very powerful low end driver which could suit one of Phil Starr's cab designs. Shipping cost to be covered by buyer, I will ship in the original packaging.

I have for sale a Celestion BL12-200X 200w 8 Ohm speaker. Only used gently for prototyping my Basschat Mk1 cabs before purchasing Beyma SM212. Ideal for someone wishing to have a low cost entry into Phil Starr's Easy 12" cab build or the Basschat 1x12 Mk1cab. Shipping at buyers cost, I will ship in the original packaging.

+1 for Fender Kingman. Lovely Jazz neck with a body large enough to produce a decent acoustic output to keep up with most mandolins. Great Fender branded preamp with on-board tuner, notch filters & quick change battery compartment.

Check out the DiMarzio model J PUPs. Split coils, so humbucking, passive, punchy with a great range of tones. I've found them to be a great all round upgrade.

Power Amp into Ampeg SCR-DI...? Or small Class D head?

+1 Hold onto the cash and save for a second One10 for modular rig. -
Looking forward to seeing & hearing some reviews of the OBC-112. Healthy competition is always good to keep pushing the boundaries of product offerings to us the customer. It keeps manufacturers on their toes and maintains reasonable pricing. Had a quick look at the LaVoce site and the XMax figure for the only 400W 12 speaker appears quite low compared to our Old friend the Beyma SMS 12. Anybody with more technical prowess able to comment?

Love that bass. Pup positioning must provide oodles of tone. Any chance of more details?

+1 I use either a Fender Rumble 500 head or my Mesa D800 with either of my two Barefaced Super Compact 1x12 cabs. D800 into the two SC s is awesome! Seems to cover all I will ever need.
-
If it were me , I would stick with two Pups and move the neck Pup back to a position similar to that Darkheart posted.
-
Are the strings going to line up above the pole pieces of the neck Pup?

IT’S FINISHED!! Mrs DaBass was away for most of the weekend assisting with one of our Grand daughters 8th Birthday party so being “home alone” I was able to complete the project. The assembly was straight forward everything went together just right. Did some grounding Opinions Please?? With or without Pickguard? With or without P-Bass cover? Bespoke Pup Cover in the post and I will show a photo when it arrives.

We who participate in the Bass Chat community are truly blessed with a wealth of knowledge and experience. We enjoy contributions from bassists, other musicians, artisans, crafts men & women, engineers of many disciplines, technicians and hobbyists. It was one such design engineer, “threedaymonk”, who kindly offered to manufacture a plastic Pup cover for my Jess Loureiro 51P split coil Pup. Paul & I shared drawings of the Pup and he went away and designed a 3D printed Pup cover. Here are his CAD renderings and a photo of the cover actually being manufactured. Having remembered the sadly missed Brother Dave evangelizes in his review of his own Fender 51 RI on his website (which survives his passing). I wanted to make my 51&3/4s Tele-P as robust as possible so it made sense to seek a solution for protecting the Pup. Paul has posted the finished Pup cover and it should be with me on Tuesday.

Having remembered the sadly missed Brother Dave evangelizes in his review of his own Fender 51 RI on his website (which survives his passing). WARNING! You should NEVER USE THIS PICKUP AS A THUMBREST because there is no plastic cover like on the other Fender bass pickups you may be accustomed to using as a thumbrest. This is partly why these originally came with a big chrome pickup cover. If you apply too much pressure with your thumb, you can break off the fiberboard top of the bobbin and the poles will then fall out on the floor. I’ve heard this can also happen if a string gets popped too hard and catches under the fiberboard bobbin top. Once the bobbin top pulls off the pickup it won’t work until you replace the pickup. It doesn't get softer or lose tone, it is DEAD SILENT. I wanted to make my 51&3/4s Tele-P as robust as possible so it made sense to seek a solution for protecting the Pup. Nah, get a proper black bridge. The spray paint will break off eventually while a powder coated or electrostatic coating will last much longer.
-
Absolutely nobody wants their poles pieces falling to the floor.

Completed the head shaping and applied the decal ( yes, I'm a poser) and several wipe-on coats of Ronseal Hard glaze satin, as per Andy's tutorial. It's been left over a week and I have flatten the finish with a buff of some T-Cut. Quite pleased with the finished head, I intend to leave the back of the neck and fret board as it is until the light satin finish it came with wears in and then maybe some Danish oil on the back and Lemon oil on the fret board.
-
Good result then, you can now crack on with the build knowing that there's a final solution on the horizon.

Yes, as sadly missed Brother Dave evangelizes in his review of his own Fender 51 RI on his website (which survives his passing). "WARNING! I'll post some pics when it arrives.

From the pix it looks like there's enough "meat" on the wrong neck to reshape it to the shape you want. Occasionally with Chinese shippers they would rather give a full refund without asking for the item to be returned. It may turn out that you get the neck you want with a bit of reshaping work for no money( assuming they give you a full refund)

Perhaps it should be called an Emperor Telebass. I'll get my coat!
-
It's not a thumb rest it's actually a 3D printed cover for the Pup. I haven't named the kind Basschatter until I get his permission. I've sent a drawing of the Pup and he is designing the black plastic cover with screw bosses to completely encase the Pup. I'll post a photo once it arrives.
