What 1" compression tweeter and crossover unit should I put in my cab?
JohnDaBass replied to Dev R's topic in Amps and Cabs
I followed this thread and repurposed a SWR Goliath Junior Mark 1 (Eden USA made) 2x10 cab. Used the same two Celestion BN10-300X and an Eminence BGH25-8 as recommended by Bill Fitzmaurice. I only used the HF part of the crossover and followed @stevie advice and connected the two BN 10 -300x direct to the input. With new ports the system worked really well. I integrated the variable HF control which provided extra control over the HF. I have been very happy with the performance of the modified system and I am grateful for the help and advice from @stevie and @Bill Fitzmaurice. It's a very loud versatile cab with huge tight bottom end. -

I guess which ever one you buy, knowing a little about your bass tastes, you'll probably upgrade the Pups. (£60-£80). So I would be inclined to add a used G&L Fallout Tribute and a used Squier SS Jaguar to your list. If you recover fully and return to 34ins scale basses , chances are you would loose less when you move on your Short scale bass. Best wishes on a speedy recovery. -
That's a handsome looking bass Lozz, with so much of everything, character, mojo, presents and a real keeper. What about a dark red tort pick guard?

I have not tampered with the neck but I can confirm that the body is alder. I had to modify the body to add two Thunderbird pickups in place of the stock P/J Pups. These are fantastic value for money instruments who's fit, finish and quality far exceed the £199 I paid for mine. -

+1 I can vouch for the HB MV-4SB , great fit and finish with a decent range of tones as stock. Alder body, bound roasted maple neck, makes a great starting point for many upgrade routes. -
Mesa Walkabout cab/Subway head compatibility

+1 Subway D800 1 x 12 Comb plus Subway D800 1 x 15 Combo plus Subway D800 2 x 10 Combo in Walkabout format pretty please with sugar on 🙏. -
John Shuker replaced a fret board and truss rod on a US Fender Stu Hamm Mk1 . Absolute fantastic work. John's work is in great demand so be prepared to have neck fixed by slotting in to his busy bass build schedule. Worth the weight!!!!

+1 Great range of tones, really liking the 3-way switching, nice idea to have the humbucking through the permanently on mid pickup. I have no concerns over the shape of the pick guard, looks fine on both colour options. Looking forward to some more videos and hands on reviews. Bit pricey though.

TC Electronics Tone Print system is a neat solution to add effects directly to their amps. I have searched the TC site but cannot find a Tone Print that offers a HPF. Has anyone built a Tone Print with just a HPF and is prepared to share the file?

+1 Also a Rumble 800 combo user and I don't ever recall not being loud enough for any gigs. I also have a Rumble 800HD driving one or two BF Super Compact 12s and again never suffering any lack of power. Check out the advice from @Phil Starr and try to involve the whole band in a reassessment of your sound stage. One point to check is the external speaker impedance switch, and follow the manual for the correct settings. I support the advice from others that a 2x10 extension cab would be the best way forward to access the full 800 watts, more importantly the extra speaker area will give you a step up in overall sound output.

Accept your positive experience. But I have purchased a 30ins neck and a replacement Rick pup and frankly quality was poor and performance well below average. The Pups seem to be re-branded Chinese products which have disappointing performance. After sales support is rather hit and miss. -
They are yours, I'll bring them along for you.

I have a pair of Eden 10in speakers taken from a SWR Goliath Jr v1. These were the first SWR Goliath Jrs that were (apparently) built for SWR in the USA by Eden using Eden drivers. They are too heavy to ship so if anyone is interested I'll bring them along. FOC. See you Sunday.
