  1. Bridge over troubled waters - Simon & Garfunkel
  2. I don’t like correcting fellow bassists, but Diamonds was played on a Fender VI bass tuned the normal way E to E. although some early footage it looks like his had 2 pickups rather than the usual 3 , but later he was using the normal one.
  3. I think they’re selling it because it doesn’t really work. The video is very odd.
  4. Black cycling mitts which leave the tips of the fingers protruding. Available for as little as £3 on line.
  5. +1 for La Bella LTs. I do use roundwounds as well and currently have d’Addario on and low B is fine.
  6. Eb and G, curiously seem to go together quite nicely. Might try using them.
  7. I’ll quickly put this right. Here she ie playing her more familiar bass (although not the Fender P with the lump of foam under the strings). Played on more hits that most of us have had hot dinners. Just listen to God Only Knows, superb phrasing.
  8. Recently found this amazing performance on YouTube. Joni Mitchell, who’s guitar work is pretty good, with Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius and Michael Brecker on sax thrown in for good measure. Jaco has a solo spot at around 24, but it’s his accompanying playing that I think is so good. He seems to be using a fretted jazz on track 1 before switching to the more familiar fretless. Enjoy.
  9. Definitely NO. Good way to give yourself arthritis or RSI 👎
  10. I think Steve Swallow’s Citron may be a contender too.
  11. But can you get a good P sound, you know the one like Duck’s or Jamerson’s. Wasn’t that the point of specifying a PJ mix? Work on it!
  12. Very smart, Bro. How does it play?
  13. My friend has just bought a Strat Acoustasonic and loves it. Thanks to lockdown I’m yet to have a go. I have the TaylorT5Z which is similar to the Fender and predates. Has more trad controls - acoustic pickup and 2 pickups and I’ve thought several times that this would make a good bass. I also have a Spector Spectorcore which is pretty much what we’re talking about. Semi hollow body (but not much acoustic sound) Fishman piezo in the bridge and a magnetic pickup. I like it, but I notice that it seems to have disappeared from the Spector website, which probably means they’ve stopped making it. I’m guessing that Fender and Spector found that the market for such basses is pretty minimal. There is still the Ibanez one but that does have the magnetic pickup.
  14. Wow. That could make me want a P shaped bass again.
