Not that I do, but you could try using a plectrum. Loads of people do, some of them are even quite good bass players - Macca, Dave Pegg, Chris Chandler, Herbie Flowers to name just a few.
Set of Hofner Contemporary Flat wound strings .040 - .095 which were on a violin bass for about 4 weeks and home used only before I decided they didn’t give the tone I was looking for. They produce the classic flat thump. Happy to post and if you can collect I’ll knock the postage off the price.
I always fancied one of these back in the day when I had a modest Ibanez Roadster, but I fear that nowadays this might prove a bit heavy for my aging bones. Any clue as to weight?
This has appeared on the Thomman site, shortly available, but it’s not even on Guild’s own site yet. A Starfire 1 bass with single pickup and tailpiece rather than the more familiar Starfire 11 with a bridge tailpiece and big pickup/s. I don’t think guild ever made a 1 that looked like this but it has got a retro look and is not costing a fortune. £439 @ Thomman but with the new rules presumably they’ll be import charges.
I hope someone in the U.K. stocks them as I’d really like to try one once we’re allowed out again.
It looks like Bass Collection have finally listened to the criticism of Bassists and changed their dreadful logo, at least on the Detroit and Profile models.
How is this working for elsewhere? I seem to remember a year or so back Japan agreed a free trade deal with EU. I’ve never imported from Japan so don’t know if back then imports became Tax free. If they did had Brexit knocked that on the head?
I’d not seen the FGN Jazz so went on a trawl. In case it’s still an option , Jow Music have one in their sale reduced to £499. Snazzy Blueburst finish which is rather eye catching.
To follow the Hofner thing, you could argue that middle and neck is the same as on the “Cavern” model of the violin bass. That was the original positions, I wonder why Hofner moved away from it to the bridge and neck?
