    It should be a criminal offence. I bought a P bass with loads on the scratch plate once. Even after removing them you could see the shapes as the plate had changed colour but not under the stickers. Cleaned and sanded it to within an inch of its life but could still see the shapes. Sold it on.

    I hanker for an EB2 as well, the annoying thing I used to own one! They don’t play that well, but still………, not at the silly prices they are asking now. I traded mine for £650.

    In the early days Gary Tallent of the E Steet Band used one. It’s probably the bass sound on born to run. you can see it in the background in this clip from 1975.

    Make that 4; don’t forget the semi based on the 335 shape was also an EB. When I think again it’s 5 or 6; the violin shaped one 2 versions of the EB0 ; the semi 2; the 3 which was a 0 with an extra pickup……………..are you still me…..

    If it’s HHpickup configuration you’re after, the Gibson EB (2013 & 2014 models) are great alternative and have a similar shape. The added advantage are pull pot which change the humbuckers to single coils.

    Is there a reason you don’t want to switch to short scale. I t would give you much greater choice and be a lot kinder on the hands.

    Music Nomad make a range of cleaning and polishing products that are well thought of by luthiers. I think I’ve only ever used the polish and it was excellent. Might be less brutal than wire wool.

    These are 34” long scale, but have a really nice neck. The pickups are great too, with lots of options thanks to the pull pots which change them from humbuckers to single coils.

    The string spacing on your bass may also have an effect. I found that on narrow spacing on a Hofner I was hitting the wrong string, I’m more used to the 19mm spacing on a P bass. It some people find them far to wide. Definitely try not to pluck to hard,let the volume knob do the hard work.

    And that verythin bass in the back round is way up above the trouser belt too. 😃
