1. I see the point of bonding with the instruments. I am currently having that experience with my MIA P and I try and practice on my Ray 5HS all the time. Why do I want so many? I figure im allowed a luxury. Part of my luxury is clothing and shoes, the other is a few games here for my gaming systems, but the main treat in my life is bass gear. Why? No idea. I dont want to spend a fortune on a car because all they do is get you from A to B, no excitment for me and no creativity. Although Id love a high end Audi at some point. My friends waste a lot of money on smoking/cars/fast food, and I dont. It all goes on my luxuries. I like collecting them...thats all. I do understand I need more time with all of them though.
2. My now ex GP12400SMX Amp Head was the type that was sleeved in the green carpeted wooden frames, with the black panel at the front, and the model name on the panel in clear window. Behind that there was a huge UV bulb, which NEVER blew or failed once and I owned the amp for around 10 years. There was a switch to turn it off which I started using as I wanted to retain the life of the bulb...but anyway, even when I sold it, the bulb was still going. Awesome amps...despite the HUGE weight. Not sure about graphic eqs though, I dont miss that!
3. Tough! Is it a Metro? If it is then id 100% keep the P.... If its an NYC...then its more fair....even though I have no clue what the P is worth (it looks very nice!). For me, the P will always have that 'vintage' value to it. Sadowsky basses are very well made, but are readily available. Personally, I dont like black blocks on maple...its rosewood with pearl inlays or nothing!
4. Very pretty!
5. Even the Trace combos (the smaller ones as well) have that signature sound. I havent played the recent gear mind! Maybe it is what we expect to hear? I think their cabs must 'colour' the sound to a Trace way is some form Sounds great.
6.
I have decided to stop kidding myself and realize that the TecAmp cab I own and often use is just not for me. It's a S210, 4ohm version. It is a fabulous cab in most aspects, yet my playing and taste is quite old school, and I just can't get what I want from the cab, and its best features remain untapped IMO. Essentially, I am looking to draw on the communal knowledge here on BC, for advice and suggestions on a replacement for it when I get around to selling it. I am looking for something with more of a rock and vintage edge, with more emphasis on well-defined low end and low-mids. Also, I'd like it to be substantially cheaper, and not vastly bigger or heavier (i can lift a 30kgs cab). The main use of the tecamp has been as a single cab solution for small to medium gigs, so the new one should be able to do the same. I would use it with any of the amps or basses in my signature, and ideally it would be a reasonable match for the ashdown 4x10, should I ever need a full stack. I could add more unreasonable conditions, but i think i'm just going to stop for now. Thanks
Small, light, ceramic speaker loaded, nice punchy tone, easy schelp, and great price = TC RS210. If you want more 'meat and potatoes' go for the RS212. The HF on these cabs is VERY smooth and the cab itself is somewhere between vintage meets modern. Your notes are defined, but with a nice warmth.
7. I like that bridge...substantial!
8.
Don't be a fool! Sell the TE (note i'm a traceaddict!) and keep the Vintage! You know your back deserves it!
Sometimes though, the extra weight is worth it if you want that Trace sound!
9.
I thought the same..... till I happened upon a 2nd hand '04 Alleva-Copollo EUT5 (essentially a Jazz style-with master tone Control & 2 band pre-thats beautiful- & active /passive option. Has vintage-SMALL- frets & handpicked woods. It's THE ONE!!!! I'm now considering just WHICH of my other GOOD -damn good- basses to sell 1st.. a Bongo, a SR, A Warwick, 2 Fenders....
Interested to know what you think of your Bongo!
10. The new customer service is brilliant IMO. A chap called Neil always deals with my emails and responds very fast!
11. OBBM.
12.
Talking of which...they rent out cabs as extras at some places. Drums are always extras. We ship in all our gear as the hire-in gear isn't worth it, IMV, and want a decent PA, basic recording/playback and a decent warm room. If they have a lounge/tea-room, even better. Between £8-10 ph max
The previous place we went to was about £5.00 (if that) each for 2 hours. Thats with cabs, heating, drums, PA, and nice friendly staff. I would say thats a bargain! If we wanted 3-4 hours (a good idea at the weekend) its say £7.00-£10.00 max each....so that a max of £10 a week each....usually we cant do every week so I dont see what the problems is with costs. Ya get what ya pay for
13. TC might be 'flavour' of the month, I agree, but they are MILES ahead of Line 6. They are hugely respected for high end recording gear, and as per the reviews I read before I bought one, they are the first company to make a 'warm/tube' sounding digital amp. Totally exceeded my expectations...totally...hence I bought the gear Markbass is great, btw, VERY nice gear and well made. Not 100% sold on the cabs as yet.
14.
yep...you old git.. seriously tho, what do you save...? I tend to look at how comfortable the room is and what tea making facilities they have so now way am I putting up with a lot of c*** with no heating..!! that applies to gigs as well...look after us and make us feel welcome or who needs it..??
Probably looking at £10 saved AT THE MOST each a month if we go to the cheaper room. Ive tried it for three nights, and hated it. Absolutely hated it. The vocalist doesnt mind because he doesnt have any gear to bring, so turns up and uses the poor PA and mics. The drum gear is awful! I will not in any way leave cabs or amps there. I dont really want to take a decent bass (hence looking for a a budget bass is another good idea here) because it is SO cold and damp. Ive been there and done it, and spending more to be warm and comfy is whats its about. If anyone in Newcastle (city) area knows a good reliable room with cabs and a half decent PA/2-3 mics, and they need a slot filling, let me know!
15. I wouldnt bother...
16. Ive moved from Newcastle until my legal position starts so please delete this. I will re-advertise when I move back to Newcastle! Thanks!
17. Ive got better as a player, and Ive found 'my' sound I think, but gigs and bands have been rubbish this year. Its actually made me want to quit bands for another year and just practice at home to my iPod. Current band is fun, and decent lads, but taking FAR too long compared to what im used to. They are also now discussing a cheaper/dirtier practice room which Im not happy about, as Im a snob. It also has a poor PA, no heating whatsoever, and its just plain manky. Im not a student anymore and I cant be bothered with £2ks worth of gear in a s*** room. Sorry, rant over!
18.
Halford's rattlecan black. Doom as fvck.
LOL!
19. I think the quality control issue is probably as they arent made in the usual UK Orange factory. Not that thats a major issue, just means they can produce more, quickly, and cheaper. The BT500 is one hell of a steal for the price IMO. My Dual Terror (Guitar) had a bad tube which I never found until I started testing it at full 30W level. I'd had it quite a while (9 months perhaps?) and Orange were very helpful in sorting it out. If its new, just get it swapped. If its in warranty, get Orange UK to sort you out.
20. Id try as much as you can. I spent a long time trying 5 strings, and came back to Stingray 5s. Tried/tested formula of 17.5mm spacing, awesome tight B, and great style/sound. Darren at the Bass Merchant in Colchester has helped me with a lot of 'tests' of various basses. If you can visit there, you will have a very relaxed and fun day! Im lucky in a way that I can go round Newcastle trying basses out if I fancy it, but ultimately I usually buy through the Bass Merchant as they are patient and friendly.
21. I think from what I can gather about your tone goals, the SP212, but If you want a BIG full sound, the OBC115 is fantastic. Plenty of clarity, superb low end, and reviewed well. My favourite 115 by far.
22. Nice, is it 30W? Good for studios and practice, but I couldn't use it in my current band
23. The TC cabs have a 'sweet' high end. Nothing harsh or ganky...I hate piercing highs so the TC cabs work well for me. Tight but full lows, punchy mids, lovely sweet high end. I fiddled with my rs212 HF this evening, and even with the HF control at full whack, it wasn't that horrible cheap ganky high end sound. The Markbass cabs are very well made, light, great spec, and quite middy in nature.
24. Id definitely say the tone from the TC cabs is more pleasing, and more what id expect from a cabinet. Still lightish and a good price. The Markbass cabs are very expensive IMO, but the NY122 is a nice cabinet. Im not totally sold on the sound.
25. Good thing with the DB212 is it's one load in, comes with casters, and the amp head fits on it nicely. Plus it's cheaper than 2 x 112. How you liking the amp?
