Berg NV412 here. f***ing Awesome!!!! Easy ish to move and gives me a great old school vibe with my Hiwatt 200 Custom. Works well with my LM3 too. Think it 108lbs so not that bad to move as its got tilt back castors.
Thats the one 'big cab' I want. Part of me says 'go ahead whilst you are fairly young!'.
You cant go wrong with a P can you. Even if its not the most ideal bass it gets the job done.
The J copy I was kindly loaned sounded pretty good, but I still find my hands work smoother on a P neck. There is also something about that P bass tone that just 'fits'. Then again, I was very jealous of the Stingray tone at the end, even though I could have used mine. In the band m currently in, the bass almost acts as a bass with rhythm guitar duties on top, and then some. A Stingray would have sounded great! -

Cheers chaps. In the end I had my USA P and I also was testing a kindly loaned J copy project bass from Conan, (much appreciated). I didnt have my own amp or cabs, but now I wish Id at least just taken my LM3. -

I fell for marketing a few times, eg that Ampeg is the best brand for every player. Im not saying it isnt great gear, but I wouldnt buy any of their new gear unless it was the Heritage series. The 8x10? Not really all that unless you drive it with a massive amount of volume. Certain brands do bring an amount of hype with it, and this will soon be moved on I guess. Are these boutique cabinets any better than a old school 4x10 + 1x15 stack? Who knows...the science that comes along with it may say it is, but your ears might not. Since around May 2009, Ive decided to try all amps/cabs before buying, and thats what worked for me with the TC gear. I dont know who thinks there isnt headroom in the amps, but you must be playing stadiums. Its probably the loudest 'small/light' amp Ive heard, although Ive not tested the Markbass SD1200. Again, with my Orange stack, id moved on from thinking of getting an Ampeg, and A/Bing a SVT-CL and AD200b Mk3 in the store made the decision so much easier. The Orange won out, obviously. -
what is the craic with that I seen somewhere where there was something like 50+ selections from a reflex
Yep...more than 50 apparently...with possible iphone links for pickup settings/save patches.
Not seen the show but does it look like this?? And if it does, its and Audio Kitchen Bass Chopper.
Correct, on the news page for Audio Kitchen: "The KoL machine has swung into action in support of the new record 'Come Around Sundown'. As I mentioned before, The Base Chopper was the only amp Jared used on the record and since buying that he refuses to use his old heads live. In fact on one gig he couldn't use the Base Chopper and he had a terrible gig having to go back to the old amps: they have ordered two more."

Has he moved away from Ampeg now? Usually I just see him with a Gibson and Ampeg SVT CL + 810E (x2 normally for both).
Yip, it's BC's very own all-round good guy BossHog. Great lad, great player. I'm guessing my mate Andy was on the desk, too? He's a genius.
Ill PM Bosshog. That Tecamp cab...wow. HUGE cab and thunderous tone. Sound guy: It was a tallish chap, fairly long dark hair, and all round helpful nice guy. Sound was fantastic.
Magee? Genius indeed. I was at Newcastle College with him, and he could have taught most of the industry-grizzled lecturers a thing or two. (Our own cd_david excepted, of course. )
He definitely knew what he was doing. -
Glad it worked out! Out of interest, were the Alex Butler Band on as well?
Yep, GREAT musicians. VERY tight bass/drums, and the bass sound, as mentioned above, was massive. Some sort of hybrid P bass. Do you know the bassist? Im guessing he might be on here? -
The new Ernie Ball Musicman Gamechanger will apparently have endless pickup combinations...Ive no idea how it works!
Nice one feeling all fuzzy now?
I was back in the 'zone' for 20 minutes last night. Adrenaline and stress relief are the best things about live work! Im pretty tired now but off to see Alexisonfire with the Mrs tonight (I actually think they are alright, but she totally loves them) so I need COFFEE! Gigging does do something for me that I always forget about. In a way it was part of my life for 2-3 years with my last band, and I took it for granted when I shouldnt have. Last night was a great welcome back to the world of live bands, and a really top venue/PA to top it off. Im so used to poor venues, bad PAs, and relying on the amps/cabs to push ALL the volume, that last night I found myself very appreciative of what Newcastle can offer. -
Dubious of the Big Al? But have TWO on order?.. Brave man!
Dubious until I tried it and thought it was absolutely awesome! Thats when I ordered two.

Hi chaps Thanks for all the encouragment, etc etc. Well, it went better than I hoped, which was in a way a good way of the gig turning out. Strange, I wasnt critical of the band as much as they were of themselves. The vocalist was quite hard on himself when he had actually done a pretty good job considering his time restrictions. They found it odd I didnt stress or criticise myself at the end. I was in fact the opposite, they all did pretty good considering it was our first outing. I knew the deal, a big gig, big professional PA, and a fairly large crowd full of the people we want to impress enough to come and see us play again. I think the other lads may not have realised just how packed that place was going to be. Our drummer did a sterling job, especially considering some of the parts he has to play. I would definitely like to take my own amp next time, and a cab of two as well. I loaned a Gallien Krueger 700RB, and it was VERY punchy and loud. Quite bright, with that modern 'mids sucked' tone but with a boatload of low end. Not sure what cabs they were, but the PA chaps did a great job. The band that played after us had some great bass gear. A HUGE Tecamp 6x10 or 6x12 (something like that) paired with an Aguilar DB750 or 751. The bass sounded great through that! Anyway, a good night. Boy Jumps Ship played amazingly well, and have come on massively in their short time of being a band. I quite enjoyed working with just one guitarist on stage. It made a massive difference to the 'space' not only in a physical sense, but in a musical sense. One thing I noted. All the band used passive Fender/Gibson type basses (I think) until Boy Jumps Ship came on and their bassist used a normal 3EQ Stingray. Made me realise exactly why I like Stingrays so much. Not only did it slice through the mix, it also provided that backing thump for the drums to work along to. Huge sound, and that distinctive tone just sounds even better in a live band. -
After being dubious about the Big Al, after testing one for a weekend, I can definitely say the 'strat' style 3 single coils works very well on a bass, as long as they 'get it right' so to speak.
Hey, People have pretty much covered it I think. Personally I know how you feel I've been there before too but it's quite right that at some point you need to get out of the rehearsal rooms and see what happens. It's not easy as you clearly care about having a good product but as you already admit you are a perfectionist do you think you may not ever feel 110% ready? If it was me and I had some doubts I would be thinking about how much I could learn about my fellow band mates by getting on stage with them. They might really surprise you. I would however be concerned that my worries might be reflected in my performance. You know you're going to do the gig (and fair play to you for standing by your band) so do yourself justice by forcing the worries to the back of your mind and concentrate on enjoying it and let your band members see you being positive. This will probably count for more than a few extra months in the rehearsal room as they'll feed off your positivity - especially if you're more experienced cos they will look to you for inspiration. I wish you the very best with the gig and I'm sure it'll be great.
Thanks, much appreciated! I agree! -
Weight/smeight its a heavy beast I agree, and it will need flightcasing, but get the drummer to lift it. What an amp!

I think its more me worrying about the vocals. Me and the guitarist can pretty much blag through it, and the drummer knows his stuff. Its just the vocals...bah! Ill let him worry about it. Maybe a drink or two will make things easier! -
