The other thing to note is that if you like MMs black, red or blue colours, they are selling brand new 2 band Rays for £999 in a EBMM soft case. Im sure you could get one for £950 and have everything new with a guarantee. Im not keen on those colours, plus I wanted a hardcase, so I paid a little bit more for those upgrades. Definitely worth it.

Definitely try it flat, no filters. Perhaps try the F1/F500 - less warm, more punchy, very 'fast' response. Cabs - Never tried them enough. Their new NY122 is nice though.
Apologies in advance for a slight hijack but I am looking at a few Stingrays at the moment and was wondering if any of you MusicMan aficionados would be able to comment on price for me? I am looking at a 87 Stingray for £1300 and was wondering if this was about normal for an early-ish Ray? seems a little hight to me? Thanks, Nathan
Hmm, im not pre 90s expert, but that seems a little high to me. To the OP, if you can get a nice very clean Ray for £800, (and I mean REALLY clean) then it will hold its value around there as long as you look after it. Original case adds £50 or so as the MM cases are about £125 or something now.
Yep I saw that too, although looking at the dates of posts, I kind of assumed that it was the early units that they were referring to. (Jan/Feb). Surely, if Ampeg had a known problem then they would do something about it by now??....at least I'd hope so.
I hope so! Im sure the warranty will cover it if you get one.
Went to see Steve Lukather on Friday night - fell in love with a MM5. I'm really glad I can't find one for sale anywhere cos I'd be about £2,000 worse off right now. Bassist was Renee Jones.
Im guessing thats a Sterling 5 HH? Trust me, shop around and you can get them for under £1500....brand new Bit of haggling doesnt hurt as well! Ive got my Sterling 5 HS on order and I cannot wait

I also looked into these. Nice amps, lots of features. The biggest worry I would have is the amount of people on talkbass sending them back due to failures....not good Ampeg dont make them like they used to.

Well, I still want one. But, I really dont need one. I prefer the stylings of the Big Al at the moment, so Im going to enjoy whats coming and leave the Bongo until I get to try one out properly. Im still currently looking for the Jazz bass for 'me', which hopefully will not cost nowhere near as much.

The ONLY issue I find on the Laklands are weight and the 35" scale. I find some of them are SUPER heavy....some are not. Also, the neck is super comfy, but my hands got very tired very quickly...but thats probably just me as I have quite small hands. I think Ive realised 34" is perfect for me. But, if you like the necks, the Lakkies are good basses. Again, Ive had bad experiences with their quality control, but that's just whats happened to me.

Didnt the 'old' versions of the USA Deluxe Jazz basses come in 24 fret format? They looked plain wrong to me.
Its not a scam nor does it have a hidden agenda, I just think its trying to make musical gear a little more accessible to those who wouldn't normally be able to afford it, and at the same time giving the resellers the opportunity to stay in business by moving stock, so everyone's a winner really
Agreed. The only problem I can see is that you may be paying something off still when the next version of it comes out haha! Also, you probably get a better price 'haggle' if you pay the whole wedge. Other than that, good idea! I dont see why people would think its a bad idea when people spend a fortune on a car for it to depreciate by huge amounts before youve paid it off.

I sold my American Standard (well traded for a good price) as I wanted a rosewood board version. I still havent reordered one, as Im never 100% 'right' on Jazz necks, but Im very close to just getting another in 3TS/Rosewood.

Orange Terror "On / Standby" Light quick question
Musicman20 replied to Cat Burrito's topic in Amps and Cabs
Has anyone thought about the 1000 Watt BT?! I bet that paired with a Berg NV412 would be pure magic. -
I used a similar scheme when I was about 18/19 to buy my dream Natural 3EQ Ray....I paid £500 off and then the rest in 6 installments, interest free. It was no hassle, I must admit. If you have a steady income, no probs! I figure sometimes its actually a good way round of snagging what you want. Depends how much you want it. Alternatively, you could do what a lot of people do, and get a 12 month (or even more with Tesco) interest free credit card and manage it yourself. That's what I do....and when the card has no more interest free months, make sure its paid off then move to another. Builds your credit rating and also its a great way of being able to buy what you want if you are sensible and have a decent income. Before I started this job, I wouldnt have done it so often, but I work hard, so I reward myself

May have to trim the herd big time
Musicman20 replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
I see the point of bonding with the instruments. I am currently having that experience with my MIA P and I try and practice on my Ray 5HS all the time. Why do I want so many? I figure im allowed a luxury. Part of my luxury is clothing and shoes, the other is a few games here for my gaming systems, but the main treat in my life is bass gear. Why? No idea. I dont want to spend a fortune on a car because all they do is get you from A to B, no excitment for me and no creativity. Although Id love a high end Audi at some point. My friends waste a lot of money on smoking/cars/fast food, and I dont. It all goes on my luxuries. I like collecting them...thats all. I do understand I need more time with all of them though. -
My now ex GP12400SMX Amp Head was the type that was sleeved in the green carpeted wooden frames, with the black panel at the front, and the model name on the panel in clear window. Behind that there was a huge UV bulb, which NEVER blew or failed once and I owned the amp for around 10 years. There was a switch to turn it off which I started using as I wanted to retain the life of the bulb...but anyway, even when I sold it, the bulb was still going. Awesome amps...despite the HUGE weight. Not sure about graphic eqs though, I dont miss that!

Tough! Is it a Metro? If it is then id 100% keep the P.... If its an NYC...then its more fair....even though I have no clue what the P is worth (it looks very nice!). For me, the P will always have that 'vintage' value to it. Sadowsky basses are very well made, but are readily available. Personally, I dont like black blocks on maple...its rosewood with pearl inlays or nothing!

Even the Trace combos (the smaller ones as well) have that signature sound. I havent played the recent gear mind! Maybe it is what we expect to hear? I think their cabs must 'colour' the sound to a Trace way is some form Sounds great.
I have decided to stop kidding myself and realize that the TecAmp cab I own and often use is just not for me. It's a S210, 4ohm version. It is a fabulous cab in most aspects, yet my playing and taste is quite old school, and I just can't get what I want from the cab, and its best features remain untapped IMO. Essentially, I am looking to draw on the communal knowledge here on BC, for advice and suggestions on a replacement for it when I get around to selling it. I am looking for something with more of a rock and vintage edge, with more emphasis on well-defined low end and low-mids. Also, I'd like it to be substantially cheaper, and not vastly bigger or heavier (i can lift a 30kgs cab). The main use of the tecamp has been as a single cab solution for small to medium gigs, so the new one should be able to do the same. I would use it with any of the amps or basses in my signature, and ideally it would be a reasonable match for the ashdown 4x10, should I ever need a full stack. I could add more unreasonable conditions, but i think i'm just going to stop for now. Thanks
Small, light, ceramic speaker loaded, nice punchy tone, easy schelp, and great price = TC RS210. If you want more 'meat and potatoes' go for the RS212. The HF on these cabs is VERY smooth and the cab itself is somewhere between vintage meets modern. Your notes are defined, but with a nice warmth.

I like that bridge...substantial!
