1.
In that case he is NOT a "good mate".
Steady on man. Perspective please
 2.
Unacceptable behaviour at any time. Worse, if you and the drummer just passively accept this, you are tacitly encouraging him to carry on. Either you need to drag him down the pub and have a proper talk about it, or you need to find another way of rubbing his nose in it. You and the drummer could simply leave the room every time he does it and force him to come and find you. You'd need to do that EVERY time though, not just occasionally.
I take it you own a dog
 3. I'm good mates with our guitarist and I frequently tell him to shut the f*** up! It usually works. No one likes other people's noise when they are trying to tune up or get a sound. Just tell him to give you a chance!
 4.
If you want a hardware unit, then the Alesis SR-16 is an excellent bet. It was in production for an astonishing 13 years, and is readily available second hand. Cheaper still is the little Boss DR-550, which is slightly less featured than the Alesis but even simpler to program (I personally prefer the sounds on the Boss as well).
+ one million!!! This unit is absolutely still regarded as one of the best , if not the best units in the business. Been around for aeons but still can't be beaten partly due to the fact that it's real drum sounds that are used. It's got touch sensitive pads and can be programmed or just played along with via the multitude of pre sets. We used an SR16 for years back in the 90's and you can pick them up cheap nowadays Cannot recommend it enough!
 5.
And I bet they gig it first so you end up looking like the copycats, right?
It has happened. Look, I know we are playing covers and have no right to these songs, but it used to be an unwritten rule round here that you didn't play the same material, but this new band just don't care. They undercut too. Harrumph!!!!
 6. Never even heard of it. It sounds like a great show. Typical I hear about it when it's finishing, still, maybe I can get it on some kind of catch up
 7. I can't see the advantage of this service , why not add a click and collect from your neighbour button?
 8.
Know what you mean, there's another band in our area that does an awful lot of our punky covers, even Nellie the Elephant, not sure who did them first but we certainly didn't copy from them, They get better gigs than us as well
Same thing happens to us. I've seen me come up with a really good suggestion that's maybe obscure enough that no other local band has thought of. We try it out and out guitarist posts it on Facebook with " homework, here's our new song" I get really annoyed because we are " friends " with a guy from another band, who is guilty of thinking, " that's a great idea" and they end up doing it. I like variety in bands. Ok, some standards will clash but there's got to be a difference in cover bands set lists!
 9. We DO try to mix things up a bit. We try and pick songs that are popular but not overplayed. We try to do slightly different versions of songs too. The thing is, the songs that go down best are the ones that have been travelled the most ie. The same dirge that we all seem to hate playing. As for playing rock songs because they are easier. I think that's not totally true. Disco songs tend to need a horn section or at least a keyboard. We have neither, so a lot of songs are not accessible to us. If someone says you can still do a version , fair enough, but it would be thin and we couldn't do it justice. I like to think we are pretty good and are not playing songs because that's all we can play. Unfortunately up this way , they like what they like and numerous bands have tried something different and floundered
 10. No offence, but why do we need to know what key your set lists are played in? The audience certainly wont !
 11. We do try to play off the beaten track type material but up this way, punters ask for the same old crud, so we are forced to include a smattering of the usual. It breaks my heart to play brown eyed girl or wagon wheel but it's what they dance to. We tried playing a set of exclusively good but more obscure songs for a bit but got embarrassing silences after finishing and had to resort to the tried and tested. Maybe you shouldn't judge bands harshly if they have the same set list. It's quite likely that they have learned the hard way that that's what they have to play!
 12. I've been playing for about 35 years, but wear my bass quite low, so maybe that's where the difference lies
 13.
You should practice in the same position as you do most of your playing that you are practicing for. That means if you do gigs standing up then you should practice standing up. If you sit down when playing, then you should use the same seat for both practicing and performing.
Couldn't agree more! I've struggled in the past when we have played a new song live and I've exclusively rehearsed it sitting down. The whole experience is different. We rehearse in one of my spare rooms and we all sit on wooden chairs , which are slightly better than reclining in a sofa. I much prefer playing everything standing up as that's the way you perform it.
 14. Send a pm to KiOgon, he is the best man to ask about this. Also , he is a perfect gent!
 15.
In my experience telling any pub band that their sound is less than perfect is like telling a bloke that his wife or girlfriend needs to lose weight; it may be completely true but it's unlikely to elicit a positive response.
Completely agree mate. Who wants a complete stranger coming over condescendingly telling them they have got it wrong? Like it or not, that's the way a lot of people will take it. I totally agree that if I know the band, I would be willing to help from an audience perspective, but you don't know these people, they don't know you. You could just be some knob that has no clue but thinks he does.
 16. Ticket master seem to work on the principle that if they have 2000 tickets say. 500 go to getmein, 500 go to viagogo and the other 1000 are sold normally. It's legalised touting and is shocking!
 17. We went to see them at Hampden and I thought it was amazing. It was very loud but it was pretty clear. I first seen them on the back in black tour( I was offered a ticket for the highway to hell tour and turned it down, so I am forever haunted by this) I seen them again on the for those about to rock tour and then again at Donnington. When they took to the stage, I must confess, I had a bit of an emotional moment as they were my first love! Brilliant! Just a good rock band !
 18.
Bad? I am disappointed that is in the states or I would be bidding!
I would be fighting you off mate! I think that's lovely !
 19.
After leaving the magic roundabout and going her own way she's done alright for herself. You never even hear of any of the others...
Most of them are doing time for various drug related crimes.
 20. Be warned, if you get a mail saying its Kanye West singing Bohemian Rhapsody, don't open it. It's Kanye West singing Bohemian Rhapsody!
 21.
I think if someone offers you advice you should be reasonably competent to work out very quickly whether they know what they're talking about. If you can't work that out within a few seconds and people are coming up 'willy nilly' to advise you, it might be wise to listen to them!
I still find it incredibly cheeky for some random to approach a band and offer his views on why you should change this or that. As has been mentioned, if a band that has nothing to do with you in a random bar, has a rotten sound, then you should leave them to it. No matter how much you might know, you are in danger of annoying them, so why risk it? I don't like "experts" coming and giving unsolicited advice and I would not offer it unless I knew the band or I was asked.
 22.
In light of this and some other threads about live mix/sound advice I've started a thread actvely asking my fellow BC'ers in Edinburgh to come and offer some constructive criticism on my bands live sound. It could be fine out front but we have an ongoing volume battle between vox-fiddle-guitar and I'm not convinced the mix is right out front either. It's nothing that a grown-up conversation and some mild ego checking would likely fix but as in most bands we'll let the public decide! Here's a link to the post with a bit more background as to what I feel might need addresssed and ideally on this occasion comment on my poor technique, lack of finesse and gerenal all round hamfistedness should be addressed in a caring and sensitive fashion http://basschat.co.u...our-live-sound/
There is absolutely nothing wrong with giving advice if it's solicited. It's people coming up willy nilly and telling you to do this or that that gets me !
 23. Glastonbury is no longer a music festival. People have their tickets bought long before any of the acts have been booked, so you never know who's going to be playing. There are so many stages and other things going on that it's become ridiculous
 24.
Sorry?? Where did I say I have multiple amps for differing venues?? And at any rate at large venues, a smaller amp can be miked up and fed through p.a.
It was a bit of humour as you seem to think that someone can pick and choose what amp he uses depending on venue size. My point is, the size of your amp, does not dictate the volume you will be playing at !
 25.
Totally agree Discreet. I've always said that at small to medium venues a guitarist really doesn't need more than a 30w valve combo or a 50-100w solid state. Anything else is pure overkill. Preferably in a a 1x12 format as well. Those guitarists using anything 2x12 and above start to turn most stages into mud city due to the inherent 'thickness' of the sound.
Not everyone can be like you and be able to afford different amps for different sized venues though. Our guitarist has a 100w amp, which he has used in small pubs and large halls and even outdoor events.
