Cancelled gig
You'll do another one soon to make up for it . Have a rest . Sucking a fishermans friend may help
Just make sure the fisherman doesn't find out though!
2. You can be let down by any member! A good drummer, bass player and guitarist are sh*t without a decent singer! Poor guitarist can draw the band down too. Come to think of it, the only position that could get away with a substandard player is the bass !
3.
While playing and you realize your standing in an inch of piss, your playing a dive. Blue
Difference is, in Scotland you're standing in an inch of pish! Usually that's just the bogs right enough ( rest rooms Blue)
4. Our guitarist used to cock up the intro. regularly ! He's pretty good but just couldn't get Mr Brightside off pat. Apparently it's quite tricky to play the guitar intro.!
5. But it's not heavy, it's my brother!
6. Stop, stop, stop all comments, give me time to breathe
7. As soon as you can mate, you should consider lessons as a must! Online lessons just are not as good although will start you off Marty Schwartz on you tube is good if you must go down this route !
8. Ive got 14 basses and four guitars. I want more. End of story!
9. My Mrs got me a Gibson Les Paul bass. I would have never thought of one of these, but I absolutely love it. It's quite simply gorgeous and sounds amazing too! I would recommend one of these easily!
10. Take lessons! No amount of online lessons or you tube videos can compete with a decent teacher who you can ask questions of. I myself grew tired of just playing bass and dabbling on guitar, so asked a local master about lessons. He was amazed they were for me as he knew I had been playing bass for years. I am now, by no means s virtuoso, but certainly a lot better than I was. My big eureka moment was learning to drop my elbow which allowed better string differention when forming chords. Playing bass for years , I had a completely different style where my hand was flatter. It's well worth it to get lessons and you won't look back!
11.
You need to stop adjusting the truss rod until you've got some strings on.
Definitely! You should never adjust whilst there's no tension . Don't be frightened to adjust the truss rod. It's amazing the punishment a neck can take if you overdo it. Just try a small 1/8 or 1/4 turn at a time and wait a few minutes. It's amazing how quick the neck changes although over night is best to let it settle
12. Iron maiden seem to get away with it , but I think it's ridiculous over doing it !
13. If we were to play and someone asked us to play Mustang Sally, I would have to decline as I don't know it. I used to, but forgot it years ago. What annoys me is when I say, "sorry we don't know it", they say, "yeah you do", "no we don't ", "yeah you do, I seen you doing it last week", " no you didn't, we weren't playing last week", "yeah you were" etc. etc. etc.
14. I had a shouty match with one bint once who was annoyed that we hadn't stopped playing as her sister and another of life's winners were scrapping in the middle of the dance floor. To be honest I hadn't seen them but I raged that we were the band not the bouncers. Later, I realised that it was such a common occurrence, that it was quite usual to just keep playing. Nice place!
15. I have 14 basses but when we play, almost exclusively, I always take the Precision and the Jazz. Every other bass is great but those Fenders just fit in better than anything! It annoys me as I really want to rotate all the basses
16. Seems a very 70's thing. They just are not fashionable anymore are they? I just remember seeing bands in my youth using them. I suppose there's no call for them now with modern technology or even a guitar stand
17.
Just been listening to them, to me they sound like a band missing a bass player.
Sorry, but I tend to disagree. I know it's not there but it sounds like there's bass there. Maybe it's just my mind putting it in, but I don't think that's thin at all
18. Some of the best gigs we have had, have been in less desirable places. For some reason, loud fighty, leery crowds know how to enjoy themselves more. One place we played used to have a fight every night. We actually had it in our set that whenever a fight broke out, we would stop playing and launch into eye of the tiger. It was great craic.
19. I once bought a load of foam noise reducing tiles that never arrived. 300 quid. I messaged the seller and was told, oh, it was my boyfriend that listed them and we have broken up now. They shouldn't have been listed. I was like. Ok, give me my money back and we will call it quits. I had to wait a couple of months and send loads of mails before I got my money back. I was raging!
20.
Are you sure you had a vocalist?
Excuse me! I'm the vocalist as well as being the bassist and there's no ego's in MY band, you insignificant philistine you!
21. Sandberg really cover everything don't they? Just a thought, what if a girl wants a bass?
22.
Perhaps another way of looking at the audience wanting songs they know and feel comfy with, is that the band they are watching is either nor very good, or not very entertaining. An audience want something they can buy into and relate to, but if all the band can offer is songs, with no visual excitement, aggression, or energy, then the audience will default to something they will find rewarding... this being familiarity with the songs. Every year I am fortunate enough to play at The Cork Guinness festival in Ireland. Every pub, bar, hotel and street corner is packed with bands, all of which are wildly entertaining, yet virtually none of them bang out the usual pub rock stuff.... This is the second biggest festival of its kind in the world, and pulls in tens of thousands of people from all over Europe every year. It's been running for years now and is an 'All right now' free zone. This is because the bands booked for the festival are good enough to entertain without the 'Groundhog Day' set list being required. I am convinced if the standard pub rock set was attempted at the festival, it would clear the building PDFQ... How does that work then...?
I couldn't agree more mate but not all of us are able to give a wild exciting show for any number of reasons. Ie. Not enough room or more likely purely for the fact that they might get ridiculed or worse because they know half the town and if they behaved like a rock star , it wouldn't go down well. I like to think we are pretty good at what we do but we are not professional entertainers with a big stage to put on a show. We have to face some of these people in the street. Also, I'm not as young as I once was, so behaving like a nonce doesn't feel right.
23.
I'd class it as a little more than a minor irritation if the OP feels frustrated or annoyed enough to start a thread about it. Especially when the OP has asked his "good mate" on numerous occasions to stop. The point I was making earlier is that what the OP describes, is not what you'd (at least I would not...) consider a "good mate" to do. This is not to say that I would not go for a drink and some light banter with the whole band after a rehearsal.
I myself have started threads on this forum to moan about irritations, but that doesn't mean I'm considering breaking up a friendship because of it. My best mate is our guitarist. He drives me up the wall with his noodling, ocd and other annoying habits, but he's still my mate and we forget about these things very quickly after we have moved on. I made the initial quip about putting it into perspective thinking I was being light hearted but you seem to think a friend making a noise on his guitar when you want him to stop, isn't a real friend! I find this a bit unnerving to be honest
24.
😀
I think that's a bit unfair to be honest. I've seen many people disagree on this forum and then the troll card gets thrown in. Why is someone a troll just because they disagree with a few people ?
25.
- 1. No. He's bang on there. This guitarist may be many things, including a decent player, but you just don't behave this way towards friends. The OP may perceive the guitarist as a good mate, but it's clear the guitarist doesn't reciprocate. It's inconsiderate at best, but given they've had words about it and it continues, then it's just plain ignorant, rude and bloody irritating. I'm generally not too friendly with that sort of person.
Well I'm glad I'm not mates with you pair if you question a good friendship on a minor irritation! Sure you get pissed off, but you are not going to stop going out for a drink with him, are you?
